Book Synopsis Mechanical Retexturing of Roads by : P. G. Roe
Download or read book Mechanical Retexturing of Roads written by P. G. Roe and published by Thomas Telford. This book was released on 1998 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Retexturing of road surfacings by mechanical means in order to restore skidding resistance has been used for some years in the UK, because it is inexpensive, quick and takes advantage of the material already present. This report details the results of the first systematic study to assess the performance and durability of various treatments. Four techniques (scabbling, bush hammering, orthogonal flail grooving and shot-blasting), were studied in road trials, and their efficacy was assessed over a three year period. It was found that, when selected appropriately for a particular site, retexturing treatments are useful tools to enhance the skidding resistance of a surfacing which is at or near its investigatory level. The process can be used all year round and can provide two to three summers of enhancement under typical trunk road conditions.

Bituminous mixtures in road construction has been published as the definitive guide to blacktop and addresses the theoretical and practical aspects of the design, manufacture and laying of bituminous mixtures. Written by a team of leading experts, the book provides up-to-the-minute thinking in materials specification, test methods and harmonisation of standards and covers all aspects of fully flexible road construction from foundation design through to surface treatment. In one handy volume, Bituminous mixtures in road construction presents the best of British expertise and will prove to be an essential guide for all engineers working on the construction and maintenance of highways.
