Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the world’s population continues to grow, so does the demand for seafood. Technological advances have enabled shrimp farming to change from traditional, small-scale businesses into a global industry. This has contributed to problems with serious disease outbreaks, which have already caused several regional wipe-outs of farm shrimp populations. The shrimp farming industry continues to grow and there is a need for a source of reliable and detailed information on shrimp farming, best practice and new developments, aimed at the shrimp industry, to facilitate future sustainable growth of the industry. The Shrimp Book, published in 2010, was written from the academic perspective, The Shrimp Book II’s focus is towards the industry perspective. 5m Books
Book Synopsis Biology and Management of Coregonid Fishes-1993 by : Miroslaw Luczynski
Download or read book Biology and Management of Coregonid Fishes-1993 written by Miroslaw Luczynski and published by E. Schweizerbartsche Verlagsbuchhandlung. This book was released on 1995 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coregonid fishes are an interesting and important group of freshwater and anadromous fishes. Coregonids are highly adaptable to diverse environmental conditions and are widely distributed throughout the Holarctic. They support substantial commercial, subsistence, and recreational fisheries. Also, Coregonid fishes are the basis of aquaculture operations in some countries and rearing techniques are important for aquaculture and for sustaining and augmenting natural populations. Coregonids are fascinating subjects for the study of evolutionary and zoogeographic problems. These fishes are also useful in the study of general fish biology and interspecific interactions. This volume contains the proceedings of the Fifth International Symposium on the Biology and Management of Coregonid Fishes. The objectives of the symposium were to address all aspects of biology, genetics, aquaculture and management of coregonid fishes, throughout their entire geographic range. The conference themes were: biology, life history and population dynamics; genetics and systematics; aquaculture; fisheries and fisheries management and human interventions.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Limnology is increasingly concerned with water supply and the relation of man to aquatic environments. Without the continued availability of pure water, all progress in technology and other fields of human life will be to no avail. The global problems concerning clear water are already extremely pressing. More limnology knowledge is needed to solve these problems. The responsibility of man to save water and to take more intensive care of the environment is raised in many of the papers, in this book. This emphasizes the necessary and unquestionable relevance of limnology to human society. Too often the abuse of water usage reflects the neglect of scientific results. Limnologists have a responsibility to ensure that administrators understand what is going on. The coverage of the book is wide, including papers on microbiology to engineering sciences. The biology of waters is handled at both species and ecosystem levels. The geographical distribution of topics ranges from the tropics to northern temperate areas. In fact, limnology is increasingly becoming a science which is, rightly, relevant to everyday life, not just an academic subject.

Book Synopsis Biology and Management of Coregonid Fishes, 2005 by : Małgorzata Jankun
Download or read book Biology and Management of Coregonid Fishes, 2005 written by Małgorzata Jankun and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coregonids (whitefish, vendace, cisco, etc.) are cold-water adapted fishes common throughout the Holarctic in North America, Europe and Asia. They have evolved into a myriad of forms, subspecies and species during and after the Pleistocene glaciations. They are therefore rich subjects for the study of evolutionary problems. Coregonids support important commercial, subsistence and recreational fisheries and are the subject of significant aquaculture operations around the world. Although coregonids are generally considered to be fairly adaptable to the pressures of exploitation, they do appear to be sensitive to changing environmental conditions such as eutrophication and a number of populations and species have been extirpated, usually by deteriorating environments coupled with the introduction of exotic species and by commercial exploitation. This sizeable volume contains 40 peer-reviewed contributions on current topics of coregonid research presented at the Ninth International Symposium on the Biology and Management of Coregonid Fishes, held in August 2005, in Olsztyn, Poland. They cover all aspects of coregonid life and managment. The contributions can be grouped into of five subject areas: genetics and evolution; biology, life history and population dynamics; invasive species; fisheries in Europe and fisheries in North America
Book Synopsis Brown Trout by : Javier Lobón-Cerviá
Download or read book Brown Trout written by Javier Lobón-Cerviá and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-10-13 with total page 881 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brown Trout: Biology, Ecology and Management A comprehensive guide to the most current research, history, genetics and ecology of the brown trout including challenging environmental problems The brown trout is an iconic species across its natural European distribution and has been introduced throughout the World. Brown Trout offers a comprehensive review of the scientific information and current research on this major fish species. While the brown trout is the most sought species by anglers, its introduction to various waters around the world is causing serious environmental problems. At the same time, introduction of exogenous brown trout lineages threats conservation of native gene pools of populations in many regions. The authors summarize the important aspects of the brown trout’s life history and ecology and focus on the impact caused by the species. The text explores potential management strategies in order to maintain numerous damaged populations within its natural distributional range and to ameliorate its impacts in exotic environments. The authors include information on a wide-range of topics such as recent updates in population genetics, evolutionary history, reproductive traits and early ontogeny, life history plasticity in anadromous brown trout and life history of the adfluvial brown trout and much more. This vital resource: Contains the latest research on the biology and ecology of brown trout Includes information on phylogeography, genetics, population dynamics and stock management Spotlights the brown trout’s introduction to regions around the world and the serious environmental impacts Offers a comprehensive review of conservation and management techniques Written for salmonid scientists and researchers, fishery and environmental managers, and students of population genetics, ecology and population dynamics, Brown Trout explores the most recent findings on the history, ecology and sustainability of this much-researched species.
