Book Synopsis Biocontrol Potential and its Exploitation in Sustainable Agriculture by : Rajeev K. Upadhyay
Download or read book Biocontrol Potential and its Exploitation in Sustainable Agriculture written by Rajeev K. Upadhyay and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant based biotechnology has come to represent a means of mitigating the problems of global food security in the twenty-first century. Products and processes in agriculture are increasingly becoming linked to science and cutting edge technology, to enable the engineering of what are in effect, designer plants. One of the most successful , non-chemical approaches to pest management and disease control is biological control, which seeks a solution in terms of using living organisms to regulate the incidence of pests and pathogens, providing a natural control' while still maintaining the biological balance with the ecosystem. This volume, (the first of two), addresses the different types of biocontrol for different pests, namely, crop diseases, weeds and nematodes, and details the biology of both the pest and its enemies, which is vital for efficient use of biological control. The book has numerous contributors who are authorities in their fields, and would be an asset to those who have interest in sustainable agriculture and crop productivity.

Book Synopsis Integrated Pest Management In The Tropics In 2 Parts by : D.P. Abrol
Download or read book Integrated Pest Management In The Tropics In 2 Parts written by D.P. Abrol and published by New India Publishing Agency. This book was released on 2016-03-15 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The implementation of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) has been a great success in temperate areas, but its role in tropical regions is less known. The tropics face specific challenges, namely weather that impacts insect life cycles and pesticide application. Beginning by reviewing the current state of pests, biological and chemical control and emerging technologies, this book then addresses specific crops, providing an up-to-date, research-oriented overview of IPM in tropical regions. This book will be a useful resource to entomologists, agronomists, horticulturists, and environmental scientists, nature conservation in tropics. The book is aimed to serve as reference book for students, teachers, researchers, extension functionaries and policy planners associated with insect pest management in tropics. This book can also be used as supplementary reading material in graduate and post graduate courses.

Book Synopsis Prospects for Biological Control of Plant Feeding Mites and Other Harmful Organisms by : Daniel Carrillo
Download or read book Prospects for Biological Control of Plant Feeding Mites and Other Harmful Organisms written by Daniel Carrillo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-30 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of biological control of harmful organisms by mites is marked by outstanding achievements with a few premiere natural enemies. Early works concentrated on the use of predatory mites for the control of synanthropic flies, More recently, the focus has been mostly on mites of the family Phytoseiidae for the control of plant feeding mites. This is an important family of acarine predators of plant pest mites, which are effectively used in agriculture worldwide. Besides the vast knowledge in several species in this family, there are as well many opportunities for biological control, represented in an array of organisms and through the improvement of management techniques, which are constantly explored by researchers worldwide. This has resulted in an increasing interest in predatory mite species within the families Stigmaeidae, Ascidae, Laelapidae, Rhodacaroidea, Macrochelidae, Erythraeidae and Cheyletidae, among others. This book will compile important developments with predatory mite species within these families, which are emerging as important tools for integrated pest management. New developments with predatory insects and pathogenic organisms attacking mites will also be a subject of this book. Finally, the potential and gaps in knowledge in biological control of acarine plant pests will be addressed.
