Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will describe current research on drug delivery systems that encompass four broad categories, namely: routes of delivery, delivery vehicles, payload, and targeting strategies. Where appropriate delivery vehicles and relevant release of specific agents in any of these categories in clinical application will be discussed. All chapters will highlight the translational aspects of the various technologies discussed and will provide insights into the advantages of such delivery systems over current ones in clinical or research use. Each technology reviewed in this book will have significant potential to improve patients' lives by enhancing the therapeutic efficacy of drugs. This book: Discusses the various factors that mitigate effective oral insulin delivery and the current status of research efforts to overcome these barriers along with recent clinical projections Examines the advantages and disadvantages of each drug delivery system Examines the standard method of accomplishing controlled drug release through the incorporation of the drugs within polymeric biomaterials such as capsules and microcapsules as well as other vehicles such as liposomes Discusses various controlled drug delivery systems, including sustained release delivery systems and pulse or delayed release, e.g. to target different regions of the gastrointestinal tract. In view of these wide-ranging technological areas, and the up-to-date discussions of opportunities and challenges associated with these applications, the book should provide readers from technology, materials science, pharmacology and clinical disciplines with very valuable information.

Book Synopsis Microfluidic Organ-on-a-Chip: Revolutionary Platforms for Disease Comprehension and Treatment by : Shi-Cong Tao
Download or read book Microfluidic Organ-on-a-Chip: Revolutionary Platforms for Disease Comprehension and Treatment written by Shi-Cong Tao and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2022-01-11 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Existing culture systems have a limited ability to reproduce the complicated and dynamic microenvironment of a functioning organ. To solve the issues of conventional culture techniques, multidisciplinary researchers, involving medical doctors, stem cell and developmental biology experts, engineers and physical scientists, have emerged to innovate methods and devices. A microfluidic organ-on-a-chip (μOOC) is a cell culture device, based on microfluidic technology, which contains continuously perfused chambers with cells to simulate organ-level physiology/pathology. The μOOC is not to build a whole living organ, but rather to synthesize minimal functional units that recapitulate organ-/tissue-level functions. The μOOC can be applied to study not only the convention stimulation on cells by molecular/drugs, but also physical forces (fluid shear stress, cyclic strain and mechanical compression), organ-specific cell-cell intercommunication, and organ-organ coupling responses. There is an emerging need for innovative approaches for the production, control, analysis, and utilization of the μOOC, and even the multiple interconnected μOOC (Human-on-a-Chip). Although the μOOC has attracted much attention and is continuous being studied, there are still many difficult problems to be solved. Some of the most mentioned challenges include microenvironmental (biochemical, biophysical, biomechanical, nutrient, etc.) control, modeling tissue–tissue and multiorgan interactions, and reducing variability (automated control, high-throughput manipulation/analysis, integration of biosensing and etc.).

Book Synopsis New Approach for Drug Repurposing Part A by :
Download or read book New Approach for Drug Repurposing Part A written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-05-24 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New approach for drug repurposing represents drug discovery and development which is a tedious process that requires 10-15 years of time, investments up to $1-2 billion, and have high risk of failure to enter into market for clinical applications. As the drugs has to pass through number of developmental phase, the likelihood for a drug to be approved from phase I clinical trial to United States of Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) approval is less than 10%. More than 90% of drugs failed in due to toxicity, efficacy and clinical trials. Drug repurposing is one of the roadway to accelerating drug discovery and development for treating disease and thus to providing better quality of life. This volume covers an overview of drug repurposing, novel methods, mechanism of action, lab on chip for drug repurposing, computational biology, system biology, artificial intelligence and machine learning for drug repurposing, target identification, target mining, high throughput drug screening, clinical trial of repurposed drug, repurposed biologics, and regulatory consideration and intellectual property right of repurposed drug. This volume highlights a number of aspects of the drug repurposing that can help the basic understanding of students, researchers, clinicians, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders to perform their research with great interest. - To offer drug repurposing, novel methods, mechanism of action, lab on chip for drug repurposing, - To offer computational biology, system biology, artificial intelligence and machine learning for drug repurposing, - To offer high throughput drug screening, clinical trial of repurposed drug, repurposed biologics, and regulatory consideration
