Book Synopsis Improved Oil Recovery by Surfactant and Polymer Flooding by : D.O. Shah
Download or read book Improved Oil Recovery by Surfactant and Polymer Flooding written by D.O. Shah and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 589 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Improved Oil Recovery by Surfactant and Polymer Flooding contains papers presented at the 1976 AIChE Symposium on Improved Oil Recovery by Surfactant and Polymer Flooding held in Kansas City. Organized into 18 chapters, the book includes papers that introduce petroleum reservoirs and discuss interfacial tension; molecular forces; molecular aspects of ultralow interfacial tension; the structure, formation, and phase inversion of microemulsions; and thermodynamics of micellization and related phenomena. Papers on adsorption phenomena at solid/liquid interfaces and reservoir rocks, as well as on flow through porous media studies on polymer solutions, microemulsions, and soluble oils are also provided. Significant topics on molecular, microscopic, and macroscopic aspects of oil displacement in porous media by surfactant and polymer solutions and related phenomena are also discussed. The literature cited in this book forms a comprehensive list of references in relation to improved oil recovery by surfactant and polymer flooding. This book will be useful to experts and non-experts in this field of research.

Book Synopsis Cholinesterases and Anticholinesterase Agents by : George B. Koelle
Download or read book Cholinesterases and Anticholinesterase Agents written by George B. Koelle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 1228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the anticholinesterase (anti-ChE) agents have only limited applica tions in therapy, and from the viewpoint of practical significance they are more appropriately classified as toxic compounds or insecticides than as drugs, in their capacity of pharmacological tools they have few equals. The concept of neuro humoral transmission was originally established largely from experiments in which physostigmine, or eserine, was employed to protect acetylcholine (ACh), the trans mitter of the cholinergic nerves, from rapid hydrolytic destruction by acetyl cholinesterase (AChE) and other cholinesterases (ChE's). Since then, a great num ber of additional reversible and irreversible anti-ChE agents also have been indis pensable in studies of synaptic and neuroeffector transmission, and of other physiological processes. At the same time, there is practically no other class of compounds for which a mechanism of pharmacological action can be described in such concrete biochemical and physiological terms. Consequently, it is not sur prising that a huge literature has developed on these several closely interdependent topics. The assembling anrl proper correlation of this material for the present volume has taken the collaborative efforts of over two dozen . investigators. It iR believed that their contributions to this end will prove invaluable to future in vestigators in providing a ready, inclusive source of established information, in defining areas where further studies are indicated, and in preventing unnecessary duplication of past work. How well these aims have been accomplished will be for time and the reader to judge.
Book Synopsis A Review of the Scientific Literature as it Pertains to Gulf War Illnesses: Chemical and biological warfare agents by : William S. Augerson
Download or read book A Review of the Scientific Literature as it Pertains to Gulf War Illnesses: Chemical and biological warfare agents written by William S. Augerson and published by Minnesota Historical Society. This book was released on 1998 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Gulf War veterans have reported an array of physical and mental health complaints since the war and the question on everyone's mind is Can we identify a cause or is this a coincidence? To complement efforts by the Defense Department and other federal agencies in their attempt to understand the full range of health implications of service in that conflict, RAND undertook a major study to summarize the scientific literature on the known health effects of given exposures to such risk factors as oil well fires, chemical and biological warfare agents, depleted uranium pesticides, pyridostigmine bromide, immunizations, infectious diseases, and stress. In this landmark book series the authors report on their literature review summarize what is known about the range of actual exposures in the Gulf, and assess the plausibility of the risk factor at hand as a cause of illness. The authors caution that more research on health effects and exposures remains to be completed before definitive statements can be made and make recommendations for additional research.
