Book Synopsis Name Index to Henri Cordier's Bibliotheca Sinica (2nd Ed., 1924, the Standard Bibliography on Traditional China) by : Hartmut Walravens
Download or read book Name Index to Henri Cordier's Bibliotheca Sinica (2nd Ed., 1924, the Standard Bibliography on Traditional China) written by Hartmut Walravens and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Henri Cordier's Bibliotheca sinica, published in 5 massive quarto volumes in 1924, is the undisputed and reliable key to the Western literature on China and Central Asia up to this date. The author checked the titles himself, and whenever this was impossible he marked the entry. The bibliography is not limited to certain fields, e.g. humanities - it covers also the natural sciences, politics, current affairs, business etc. Pseudonyms are identified when possible, Chinese characters added when feasible. This masterpiece of scholarly work, indispensable to any serious worker in the field, has only one major fault - there is no index. A makeshift index (mimeographed, 1953) which covers only the better known names has been of much use during the last half a century but did not save scholars from constantly reading through the bibliography. The present index, prepared by Hartmut Walravens, offers access to all proper names included in the work, not only to the listed authors but also to those in the notes and comments, with the exception of auction and sales price information and cross references. This handy work tool will make research much easier and more efficient and allow convenient access to a wealth of reliable information.

Book Synopsis China Bibliography by : Harriet T. Zurndorfer
Download or read book China Bibliography written by Harriet T. Zurndorfer and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-12-06 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume serves as a guide to all facets of China study: from advice on choosing an appropriate literary dictionary to finding the most recent yearbooks that offer statistical data about the contemporary economy. China Bibliography does not restrict itself to one particular 'discipline', but considers the development of Chinese civilization as a whole, from its imperial beginnings to the present, and therefore demonstrates how one would find information about Chinese history, literature, religion, linguistics, collectanea, as well as present day PRC economic and political policies. Because this book also explains how bibliographical data on China has accumulated over the last 300 years (including within China itself), it also may help the reader understand the significance of a particular type of reference work.
Book Synopsis Chinese History by : Endymion Porter Wilkinson
Download or read book Chinese History written by Endymion Porter Wilkinson and published by Harvard Univ Asia Center. This book was released on 2000 with total page 1220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Endymion Wilkinson's bestselling manual of Chinese history has long been an indispensable guide to all those interested in the civilization and history of China. In this latest edition, now in a bigger format, its scope has been dramatically enlarged by the addition of one million words of new text. Twelve years in the making, the new manual introduces students to different types of transmitted, excavated, and artifactual sources from prehistory to the twentieth century. It also examines the context in which the sources were produced, preserved, and received, the problems of research and interpretation associated with them, and the best, most up-to-date secondary works. Because the writing of history has always played a central role in Chinese politics and culture, special attention is devoted to the strengths and weaknesses of Chinese historiography.
Book Synopsis Early Periodical Indexes by : Robert Balay
Download or read book Early Periodical Indexes written by Robert Balay and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Balay's "Early Periodical Indexes" is the most comprehensive guide available to the indexing of periodical literature from the 16th century until the end of the 19th century, limited in scope to European languages. The material itself is widely scattered, difficult to find, and until now without a systematic way to identify it. This extraordinarily useful tool lists and describes titles in a wide range of disciplines, including indexes published prior to 1900 that are restricted to periodicals (such as Poole's), those published later (such as Wellesley), as well as serial and topical bibliographies citing publications in all formats--and Balay explains the relationships among them. Electronic databases, both Web-based and CD-ROMs, are included. Indexes are by author, title, topical subjects, and dates of coverage. This landmark resource should be a familiar sight in every research library.
