Book Synopsis Collected Papers of John Milnor by : John Willard Milnor
Download or read book Collected Papers of John Milnor written by John Willard Milnor and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2007 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the seventh in the series Collected Papers of John Milnor. Together with the preceding Volume VI, it contains all of Milnor's papers in dynamics, through the year 2012. Most of the papers are in holomorphic dynamics; however, there are two in real dynamics and one on cellular automata. Two of the papers are published here for the first time. The papers in this volume provide important and fundamental material in real and complex dynamical systems. Many have become classics, and have inspired further research in the field. Some of the questions addressed here continue to be important in current research. In some cases, there have been minor corrections or clarifications, as well as references to more recent work which answers questions raised by the author. The volume also includes an index to facilitate searching the book for specific topics.
Book Synopsis Topological Entropy and Equivalence of Dynamical Systems by : Roy L. Adler
Download or read book Topological Entropy and Equivalence of Dynamical Systems written by Roy L. Adler and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1979 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this work is to prove a theorem for topological entropy analogous to Ornstein's result for measure entropy. For this a natural class of dynamical systems is needed to play the same role for topological entropy as the Bernoulli shifts do for measure entropy. Fortunately there is just such a class--the topological Markov shifts. The main result of this paper is that topological entropy along with another number, called the ergodic period, is a complete set of invariants under this new equivalence relation for the class of topological Markov shifts.

Book Synopsis Topological Dynamics by : Walter Helbig Gottschalk
Download or read book Topological Dynamics written by Walter Helbig Gottschalk and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1955-01-01 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Topological dynamics is the study of transformation groups with respect to those topological properties whose prototype occurred in classical dynamics. In this volume, Part One contains the general theory. Part Two contains notable examples of flows which have contributed to the general theory of topological dynamics and which have in turn have been illuminated by the general theory of topological dynamics.

Download or read book Dynamic Topology written by G. Whyburn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is a privilege for me to write a foreword for this unusual book. The book is not primarily a reference work although many of the ideas and proofs are explained more clearly here than in any other source that I know. Nor is this a text of the customary sort. It is rather a record of a particular course and Gordon Whyburn's special method of teaching it. Perhaps the easiest way to describe the course and the method is to relate my own personal experience with a forerunner of this same course in the academic year 1937-1938. At that time, the course was offered every other year with a following course in algebraic topology on alternate years. There were five of us enrolled, and on the average we knew less mathematics than is now routinely given in a junior course in analysis. Whyburn's purpose, as we learned, was to prepare us in minimal time for research in the areas in which he was inter ested. His method was remarkable.
Book Synopsis Topological Theory of Dynamical Systems by : N. Aoki
Download or read book Topological Theory of Dynamical Systems written by N. Aoki and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1994-06-03 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph aims to provide an advanced account of some aspects of dynamical systems in the framework of general topology, and is intended for use by interested graduate students and working mathematicians. Although some of the topics discussed are relatively new, others are not: this book is not a collection of research papers, but a textbook to present recent developments of the theory that could be the foundations for future developments. This book contains a new theory developed by the authors to deal with problems occurring in diffentiable dynamics that are within the scope of general topology. To follow it, the book provides an adequate foundation for topological theory of dynamical systems, and contains tools which are sufficiently powerful throughout the book. Graduate students (and some undergraduates) with sufficient knowledge of basic general topology, basic topological dynamics, and basic algebraic topology will find little difficulty in reading this book.
Book Synopsis Dynamics On Lorentz Manifolds by : Scot Adams
Download or read book Dynamics On Lorentz Manifolds written by Scot Adams and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001-11-19 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within the general framework of the dynamics of “large” groups on geometric spaces, the focus is on the types of groups that can act in complicated ways on Lorentz manifolds, and on the structure of the resulting manifolds and actions. This particular area of dynamics is an active one, and not all the results are in their final form. However, at this point, a great deal can be said about the particular Lie groups that come up in this context. It is impressive that, even assuming very weak recurrence of the action, the list of possible groups is quite restricted. For the most complicated of these groups, one can also describe reasonably well the local structure of the actions that arise. This advanced text is also appropriate to a course for mathematics graduate students who have completed their first year of study.

Book Synopsis Single Orbit Dynamics by : Benjamin Weiss
Download or read book Single Orbit Dynamics written by Benjamin Weiss and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the expanded notes from ten lectures given by the author at the NSF/CBMS conference held at California State University (Bakersfield). The author describes what he calls single orbit dynamics, which is an approach to the analysis of dynamical systems via the study of single orbits, rather than the study of a system as a whole. He presents single orbit interpretations of several areas of topological dynamics and ergodic theory and some new applications of dynamics to graph theory. In the concluding lectures, single orbit approaches to generalizations of the Shannon-Breiman-M.
Book Synopsis Symbolic Dynamics and Hyperbolic Groups by : Michel Coornaert
Download or read book Symbolic Dynamics and Hyperbolic Groups written by Michel Coornaert and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gromov's theory of hyperbolic groups have had a big impact in combinatorial group theory and has deep connections with many branches of mathematics suchdifferential geometry, representation theory, ergodic theory and dynamical systems. This book is an elaboration on some ideas of Gromov on hyperbolic spaces and hyperbolic groups in relation with symbolic dynamics. Particular attention is paid to the dynamical system defined by the action of a hyperbolic group on its boundary. The boundary is most oftenchaotic both as a topological space and as a dynamical system, and a description of this boundary and the action is given in terms of subshifts of finite type. The book is self-contained and includes two introductory chapters, one on Gromov's hyperbolic geometry and the other one on symbolic dynamics. It is intended for students and researchers in geometry and in dynamical systems, and can be used asthe basis for a graduate course on these subjects.
