Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Topological dynamics is the study of transformation groups with respect to those topological properties whose prototype occurred in classical dynamics. In this volume, Part One contains the general theory. Part Two contains notable examples of flows which have contributed to the general theory of topological dynamics and which have in turn have been illuminated by the general theory of topological dynamics.

Book excerpt: Dynamical Systems: An International Symposium, Volume 1 contains the proceedings of the International Symposium on Dynamical Systemsheld at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, on August 12-16, 1974. The symposium provided a forum for reviewing the theory of dynamical systems in relation to ordinary and functional differential equations, as well as the influence of this approach and the techniques of ordinary differential equations on research concerning certain types of partial differential equations and evolutionary equations in general. Comprised of 29 chapters, this volume begins with an introduction to some aspects of the qualitative theory of differential equations, followed by a discussion on the Lefschetz fixed-point formula. Nonlinear oscillations in the frame of alternative methods are then examined, along with topology and nonlinear boundary value problems. Subsequent chapters focus on bifurcation theory; evolution governed by accretive operators; topological dynamics and its relation to integral equations and non-autonomous systems; and non-controllability of linear time-invariant systems using multiple one-dimensional linear delay feedbacks. The book concludes with a description of sufficient conditions for a relaxed optimal control problem. This monograph will be of interest to students and practitioners in the field of applied mathematics.

Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Dynamical Systems and Bifurcation Theory by : Milan Medved̕
Download or read book Fundamentals of Dynamical Systems and Bifurcation Theory written by Milan Medved̕ and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1992-05-21 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This graduate level text explains the fundamentals of the theory of dynamical systems. After reading it you will have a good enough understanding of the area to study the extensive literature on dynamical systems. The book is self contained, as all the essential definitions and proofs are supplied, as are useful references: all the reader needs is a knowledge of basic mathematical analysis, algebra and topology. However, the first chapter contains an explanation of some of the methods of differential topology an understanding of which is essential to the theory of dynamical systems. A clear introduction to the field, which is equally useful for postgraduates in the natural sciences, engineering and economics.

Book excerpt: From the reviews: "The reading is very easy and pleasant for the non-mathematician, which is really noteworthy. The two chapters enunciate the basic principles of the field, ... indicate connections with other fields of mathematics and sketch the motivation behind the various concepts which are introduced.... What is particularly pleasant is the fact that the authors are quite successful in giving to the reader the feeling behind the demonstrations which are sketched. Another point to notice is the existence of an annotated extended bibliography and a very complete index. This really enhances the value of this book and puts it at the level of a particularly interesting reference tool. I thus strongly recommend to buy this very interesting and stimulating book." Book Synopsis Collected Papers of John Milnor by : John Willard Milnor
Download or read book Collected Papers of John Milnor written by John Willard Milnor and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2007 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the seventh in the series Collected Papers of John Milnor. Together with the preceding Volume VI, it contains all of Milnor's papers in dynamics, through the year 2012. Most of the papers are in holomorphic dynamics; however, there are two in real dynamics and one on cellular automata. Two of the papers are published here for the first time. The papers in this volume provide important and fundamental material in real and complex dynamical systems. Many have become classics, and have inspired further research in the field. Some of the questions addressed here continue to be important in current research. In some cases, there have been minor corrections or clarifications, as well as references to more recent work which answers questions raised by the author. The volume also includes an index to facilitate searching the book for specific topics.

Book Synopsis Topological Theory of Dynamical Systems by : Nobuo Aoki
Download or read book Topological Theory of Dynamical Systems written by Nobuo Aoki and published by North Holland. This book was released on 1994 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph aims to provide an advanced account of some aspects of dynamical systems in the framework of general topology, and is intended for use by interested graduate students and working mathematicians. Although some of the topics discussed are relatively new, others are not: this book is not a collection of research papers, but a textbook to present recent developments of the theory that could be the foundations for future developments. This book contains a new theory developed by the authors to deal with problems occurring in diffentiable dynamics that are within the scope of general topology. To follow it, the book provides an adequate foundation for topological theory of dynamical systems, and contains tools which are sufficiently powerful throughout the book. Graduate students (and some undergraduates) with sufficient knowledge of basic general topology, basic topological dynamics, and basic algebraic topology will find little difficulty in reading this book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides historical background and a complete overview of the qualitative theory of foliations and differential dynamical systems. Senior mathematics majors and graduate students with background in multivariate calculus, algebraic and differential topology, differential geometry, and linear algebra will find this book an accessible introduction. Upon finishing the book, readers will be prepared to take up research in this area. Readers will appreciate the book for its highly visual presentation of examples in low dimensions. The author focuses particularly on foliations with compact leaves, covering all the important basic results. Specific topics covered include: dynamical systems on the torus and the three-sphere, local and global stability theorems for foliations, the existence of compact leaves on three-spheres, and foliated cobordisms on three-spheres. Also included is a short introduction to the theory of differentiable manifolds.
