Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today's world, meditation is a word that is widely used among people who consider themselves somewhat spiritual or religious. Its application has been largely limited to practices that aim at emptying the mind of noise and distraction and focusing inward to bring calmness to one's life in the quest to achieve wholeness and balance. Its recent popularity can be attributed to the endorsement given by western celebrities who have explored eastern religions, particularly Buddhism, and touted the benefits of some of their practices for modern life, claiming impressive results. Given this background, much of the Christian world have viewed the word with suspicion and in some quarters steered clear of it altogether, thereby falling for the enemy's classic manoeuvre: make people let go of a powerful truth by calling a falsehood the same name. A candid comparison of the early church and the church today must leave us with sobering questions. Where is the powerful witness we see in the book of Acts? In my country Nigeria, with mega churches and at least 90 million Christians, where is the national transformation we should experience if our Christianity has the same potency as that of the first century 120, which transformed the world? Christians all over the world are asking these questions. We have clearly lost something along the way. Christians now have access to more books, CDs and MP3s, conferences, seminars, and Christian television networks, than at any other period in church history. Numerous Bible translations abound. Study aids that help us understand the original languages of the scriptures ranging from commentaries to lexicons and word studies are readily available to all. The internet is also an excellent resource. Christian organizations have made expensive study tools accessible at no charge to anyone with a computer and internet connection. Even secular online bookstores and auction houses have large catalogues of Christian material. These tools, though welcome, are clearly not the answer. The Western church is still enjoying religious freedom, and countries that historically opposed the gospel are opening their doors, so this is not a problem of access. The word of God remains the same. The Holy Spirit remains on earth. We are still in the same dispensation as that of the church in the book of Acts. What did they know and understand that we need to learn?God's counsel to Israel during Jeremiah's day still holds true for the church today.... "Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls..." (Jeremiah 6:16). This study examines one of those ancient paths: the practice of true biblical meditation. Biblical meditation started with the patriarchs and persisted throughout the early church. It holds the key to unlocking the transforming power of God in every life and has the potential to ignite revival fire in every heart. We must claim meditation back with its true meaning and practice. We must reclaim the practices of the faith that were delivered to the saints and freely admit to their mystical nature. There is a higher life in God behind the door that this powerful key will unlock. This book provides tools that will enable you get up and experience it. I commend this book to the precious Body of Christ who have been purchased by the blood of the Lamb of God and called to a high purpose. May your heart's hunger for more of God be satisfied through the power of the Holy Spirit.

This book was released on 2017-11-20 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meditation holds the key to unlocking the transforming power of God in every life, and it has the potential to ignite revival fire in every heart. The way the word meditation is used today deviates from the original meaning in the Hebrew and Greek texts of the Bible, dampening its effectiveness. However, biblical meditation started with the patriarchs and persisted throughout the early church. God told Joshua that meditation is the recipe for a prosperous journey in life (Joshua 1:8). This study guide is designed as an accompaniment to the book, Biblical Meditation. It will enable you to hone your understanding of the concepts shared in Biblical Meditation by exploring questions, which expose any underlying beliefs, for further reflection and discussion. It will also challenge you to examine the practical ways these concepts can be applied and lived out. While the study guide is intended for group settings whether small or large, facilitated by leaders who have read Biblical Meditation, it can also be used for personal study. I recommend that readers begin by first completing Biblical Meditation, to receive a holistic understanding of the subject of meditation. Then start again, reading a chapter of the book before delving into the corresponding chapter in the study guide. The chapters in the study guide match the chapters in the book. It is best to take a sequential approach, building understanding and steering discussions from the first chapter to the last. Only some of the scripture passages referred to are written out in the study guide, so it is good to have a Bible with you as you go through the book. Writing space is provided to record your answers and reflections. Feel free however, to use a journal or other writing material to capture thoughts and information that do not fit in the space provided. Start each session with prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to give you insight. Inspired Bible prayers can be found in the appendices. Essential study aids for your devotional life are also listed. Many are my personal favourites. Work through the study guide at a comfortable pace for you or for your group. The goal of meditation is not to finish but to be transformed. It is my prayer that as you journey through the study guide, you will receive insight into this ancient path and claim meditation back with its true meaning and practice. I commend this book to the precious Body of Christ who have been purchased by the blood of the Lamb of God and called to a high purpose. May your heart's hunger for more of God be satisfied through the power of the Holy Spirit.

To find a sense of soul-steadying peace? To develop emotional strength? Then you will need to pause long enough to be still and know He is God. Trusted Pastor Robert Morgan leads us through a journey into biblical meditation, which, he says, is thinking Scripture—not just reading Scripture or studying Scripture or even thinking about Scripture—but thinking Scripture, contemplating, visualizing, and personifying the precious truths God has given us. The practice is as easy and portable as your brain, as available as your imagination, as near as your Bible, and the benefits are immediate. As you ponder, picture, and personalize God’s Word, you begin looking at life through His lens, viewing the world from His perspective. And as your thoughts become happier and holier and brighter, so do you.

Linda Allcock gives us a framework to help us slow down and dwell deeply on God’s word so that it clears our minds and fills our hearts, making a real difference to the way we live. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE Christian journey is not vague or directionless; there is a specific end in view. That end is Christ. Gods ultimate purpose for the believer is conformity to the image of Christ. All the Father is seeking to accomplish in the New Creation is to make us like His Son. This lofty goal of our Christian faith is what the Scripture speaks of as coming to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. After a man gets saved, he must begin a journey of transformation into Christ-likeness. Unfortunately, this is not often explained and taught sufficiently to those who come to our Lord Jesus Christ. Consequently, many have sadly forgotten that the only evidence of the new birth is the new life. In this book, you will not only discover the goal of Christianity, you will also discover the practical steps to a successful Christian life.

Book excerpt: During the seventeenth century, English Puritan pastors often encouraged their congregations in the spiritual discipline of meditating on God and His Word. Today, however, much of evangelicalism is either ignorant of or turned off to the idea of meditation. In God’s Battle Plan for the Mind , pastor David Saxton seeks to convince God’s people of the absolute necessity for personal meditation and motivate them to begin this work themselves. But he has not done this alone. Rather, he has labored through numerous Puritan works in order to bring together the best of their insights on meditation. Standing on the shoulders of these giants, Saxton teaches us how to meditate on divine truth and gives valuable guidance about how to rightly pattern our thinking throughout the day. With the rich experiential theology of the Puritans, this book lays out a course for enjoying true meditation on God’s Word. Table of Contents: 1. Since the time Adam and Eve sinned, all of us have needed that Life and Power. We need it to enter God's Family and we need it to live properly in His Family. Look at what Paul writes to believers in Ephesians 4:17-18. So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. 18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Here are three key points from this Scripture. -Those of us who know God must live no longer like those who don't know God. -Those who do not know God live the way they do because of the way they think. Their understanding is darkened. -This is because of the condition of their heart. We need something strong enough to change both our minds and our hearts. God's Word, and the Life and Power it contains, is designed to do just that. That is why we need His Word. It is only as His Word (Written and Living) impacts us that we experience that Life and Power and a change in our minds and hearts. How does it impact us most deeply? How can we cooperate with God to let it do its work in us? I am convinced the most impactful way Scripture affects us is through the process of meditation. Meditation is how His Word produces His Life and Power in our lives. It is how the Spirit of God writes the Word of God on the hearts of the people of God. This book will help you understand and develop a life-style of Biblical meditation.

Today, many believers misunderstand this core Christian discipline because they associate it with New Age spirituality and false religions. During the Puritan age, however, many ministers preached and wrote about meditation, and in this pamphlet, Joel R. Beeke guides us through their instruction on this subject. By God's grace, "perhaps we can recover the biblical practice of meditation for our time."

Book excerpt: To encourage God’s people, we present this issue of the Free Grace Broadcaster on Meditation. Meditation is essential for a healthy walk with Christ and growth in grace. Charles Spurgeon introduces this subject with a helpful overview of the importance, practice, and benefits of biblical meditation. Thomas Watson defines what it is. Thomas Manton is convinced meditation is a biblical duty, and he tells us why. What is the nature of meditation? Isaac Ambrose answers that and describes the time, place, and matter of that holy practice. William Bates beautifully instructs us in occasional meditation, focusing on God’s creation, and George Swinnock offers five descriptions of solemn and set meditation on sacred subjects. Are there real dangers in neglecting this holy act of deep thinking? Edmund Calamy lists twelve! And they are sobering. John Owen, a deeply spiritually-minded pastor and theologian, presents us with practical helps for meditating upon God, and then A. W. Pink meticulously shows us how to approach a biblical text so that we can chew the Bread of Life. Are you new to meditation and wonder what to meditate about? In a second article, Thomas Watson gives a beautiful panorama of biblical themes to fix our hearts on, starting with God in eternity, progressing to Christ in history, and extending to heaven and hell. Then, Jonathan Edwards urges us to show our love to Christ; he does so by giving us a wonderful description of His loveliness. Spurgeon, a great advocate and practitioner of meditation, closes this issue by instructing us with sweet meditations of Jesus Christ our Lord. And how precious they are! Be forewarned: meditation is hard in our too-busy, distracted world; but this FGB is a brief “how-to” that we pray will fan the flames of your heart to seek the glory of Christ in Scripture and to love Him as never before.
