Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Confessions of A Bisexual Husband” is a candid, honest, rivetting account of a man coming to terms with bisexuality within the confines of marriage and fatherhood. The book redefines our most dearly-held beliefs about sexuality, monogamous marriage, and living an authentic life. Cohen takes us into his intimate world of sexual exploration as he tries to solve the mystery of his lifelong struggle with bisexuality. After 15 years of marriage, two kids, and illicit experimentation with men behind his wife Gabrielle's back, Marco confesses it all to her. For most this would be a dealbreaker – not so for Gabrielle. She too felt unhappy and confined in the marriage. Together they decide to set each other free, opening their relationship and exploring beyond the bounds of their monogamous, heterosexual union. Gabrielle is soon forced to face her own beliefs about what it means to be a sexually active and liberated woman. She struggles to allow herself the freedom she wants, until disovering an inner strength she never knew she had. No longer able to take each other for granted, their sexual encounters bring about a healing change of perspective in both, enabling them to attain levels of love, intimacy, and respect for the other deeper than they'd ever thought possible. "Confessions of a Bisexual Husband” is provocative, sexual, humorous, poignant, and most of all, transformative. In the end this is a very modern re-love story between two people who literally travel to the ends of the earth and beyond the bounds of their marriage to rediscover the love they have for each other.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyday Violence is based on ten years of scholarly rage against catcalling and aggression directed at women and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) people of New York City. Simone Kolysh recasts public harassment as everyday violence and demands an immediate end to this pervasive social problem. Analyzing interviews with initiators and recipients of everyday violence through an intersectional lens, Kolysh argues that gender and sexuality, shaped by race, class, and space, are violent processes that are reproduced through these interactions in the public sphere. They examine short and long-term impacts and make inroads in urban sociology, queer and trans geographies, and feminist thought. Kolysh also draws a connection between public harassment, gentrification, and police brutality resisting criminalizing narratives in favor of restorative justice. Through this work, they hope for a future where women and LGBTQ people can live on their own terms, free from violence.

Book excerpt: An unapologetic guide for readers who are Black, masc, and bi—unlearning biphobia, coming out, combatting erasure, and embodying your whole self Through cutting social analysis, personal stories, and need-to-know advice, Dear Bi Men reclaims bi+ visibility in a culture of erasure—and unapologetically centers Blackness in a practical and deeply researched guide to navigating life, work, and relationships as a Black bi+ man. Popular representation of bi and pansexual men is growing, but we’re not there yet: It’s mostly white. It collapses bisexual identity into tired, hypersexualized tropes. And it fails to interrogate the deeply entrenched stereotypes that insist: You’re confused. You just don’t know you’re gay. You’re greedy. You must be great in bed. Author, peer counselor, and creator of #bisexualmenspeak J.R. Yussuf pushes back against these stigmas and misconceptions, exploring how white supremacy reinforces biphobia and dictates what society thinks it means to “be a man.” He contextualizes discourse around queerness and bisexuality within a larger framework that honors readers’ intersecting identities. And he offers deeply practical advice, sharing how to: Unlearn internalized biphobia and homophobia Navigate an increasingly hostile digital landscape Think about coming out: who to tell, why to tell them, and how to do it Fight back against erasure and stigma Navigate sex, dating, partnerships, marriage, friendship, and work Understand your bi+ sexuality through a political lens Process Black bi+ representation Rich with personal narratives, insightful analysis, and practical advice, this book is a powerful resource for Black bi+ men to reclaim their identity, counter biphobia, and get empowered—and an offering to all readers looking to fight back against the erasure and dehumanization wrought by patriarchy.

Book excerpt: Forty-year-old William Coday lived the quiet life of a scholar. He spoke six languages and held degrees in history, literature, and library science. As a librarian in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, he was known to be unfailingly kind and helpful. But you can't always judge a book by its cover... When Coday failed to show up for work one day, a concerned colleague looked for him at his apartment...only to discover the body of Gloria Gomez. Coday's ex-girlfriend, Gomez had been bludgeoned to death with 144 blows by two hammers and a knife. Police at the scene had little doubt that Coday was the killer. But other, darker secrets from Coday's past had yet to come to light... In one of the most shocking crime cases and legal appeals in Florida history, an extraordinary courtroom battle began. What the jury did not know was that Coday, when he lived abroad, had beaten another ex-girlfriend to death; the courts there had deemed him insane. Who was William Coday: Mentally unstable? Or perfectly capable—and guilty—of murder in the first degree? Soon it would be up to prosecutors to prove who the real man was BEHIND THE MASK. Behind the Mask is a 2007 Bank Street - Best Children's Book of the Year.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “I am part of the generation that came of age when Bi Any Other Name was already in print. This groundbreaking anthology gave me the language, courage and sense of community I needed as a young queer woman.” —Daisy Hernández, A Cup of Water Under My Bed The 25th Anniversary Edition Bi Any Other Name: Bisexual People Speak Out first debuted in 1991. This groundbreaking book helped catalyze a national movement for bisexual identity, justice and equality. Often dubbed “the bisexual bible,” Bi Any Other Name was on Lambda Book Review’s Top 100 GLBT Books of the 20th century and became a beloved reference text in many classrooms, doctors’ offices, libraries, and pulpits. A 2007 Mandarin translation was published in Taiwan. The new 2015 introduction of this book updates readers to the enormous changes the past quarter century has brought – for bi people, the larger society and the sexual rights and liberation movement of which we are a part. When did you know? How did you come out? What was your experience? The coming out stories in this book speak to the many ways bisexuals embrace realities outside rigid either/or categories throughout the passage of our lives. Everyday stories of women, men, transgender bisexuals, teenagers to octogenarians, from many different cultures and family arrangements. The fierce truth of these lives made visible puts a check on bisexual erasure, exposing the binary constructions of gay/straight and male/female as oversimplifications that reduce spectrums to mere opposites. Caught between the mainstream culture’s persistent discounting of bisexuality, the sensationalizing characterizations presented in media, and the sexual liberation movement’s continual disregard of bisexuality as a serious identity, bisexual people are often not seen or heard when they speak out. There is a vital need for these earnest voices to be heard in the new century. Enormous cultural changes have occurred in the past 25 years, yes, but understanding bisexualities has just begun.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the moment I was born in the Psychiatric ward at the University of Minnesota Hospital in 1965, Minnesota would never be the same. With a little naivety on my mothers part back in the early 70s, a little boy had more leash to explore than a little boy should have had. Combined with a stepfathers influence that was geared more for inmates at Alcatraz, a wild pony was created and set loose into the world until being reigned in at the age of 24. In the book I chronicle many of the events in my life up to the present. By the time I was eleven years old I had crashed two cars; the second on Hwy 100 in the middle of the day. I had an extraterrestrial visit, been chased by the police on the back of my drunken step dads motorcycle, and had done and seen numerous other things that were years to early. The craziness of my life continued throughout my school years, into the military and then as a young adult man after the Air Force. What makes this book special is the transparency of my failures, successes, fears, and hopes from my heart that are common to most people as I became an adolescent and a man; as well as those things that are unique to having one foot in and one foot out of the white European and black African gene pool. This book is more than a rollercoaster ride and window into my life. It answers the two most important questions that are at the core of every human heart; who am I and what is my purpose? I show how God rescued me from myself and transformed my life without removing my playful and sometimes zany antics.

Homophobia, transphobia, racism and misogyny remain stubbornly pervasive, and unfortunately, many inclusion programmes do more to create negativity toward the diversity agenda than they do to bring about measurable and lasting change. Why isn’t change happening more rapidly? What are we doing wrong? Or better yet, what should we be doing differently if we want to drive different outcomes? Although most of us are curious about diversity, and some would go so far as to call ourselves allies, very few of us are skilled in inclusion. In the absence of knowing what to do, we double down on being nice and hope that will be enough. Unfortunately, this optimistic attitude may harm as much as help. This book is for anyone who wants to dive into the complex task of supporting diversity and increasing inclusion. It’s filled with insight and practical know-how. It will help you navigate the polarised and divisive issues we face, and move beyond just talking about diversity to playing an active role in shaping an inclusive future.

Book excerpt: A lot of professors give talks titled 'The Last Lecture'. Professors are asked to consider their demise and to ruminate on what matters most to them: What wisdom would we impart to the world if we knew it was our last chance? If we had to vanish tomorrow, what would we want as our legacy? When Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon, was asked to give such a lecture, he didn't have to imagine it as his last, since he had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. But the lecture he gave, 'Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams', wasnt about dying. It was about the importance of overcoming obstacles, of enabling the dreams of others, of seizing every moment (because time is all you have and you may find one day that you have less than you think). It was a summation of everything Randy had come to believe. It was about living. In this book, Randy Pausch has combined the humour, inspiration, and intelligence that made his lecture such a phenomenon and given it an indelible form. It is a book that will be shared for generations to come.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Talmud's Red Fence explores how rituals and beliefs concerning menstruation in the Babylonian Talmud and neighboring Sasanian religious texts were animated by difference and differentiation. It argues that the practice and development of menstrual rituals in Babylonian Judaism was a product of the religious terrain of the Sasanian Empire, where groups like Syriac Christians, Mandaeans, Zoroastrians, and Jews defined themselves in part based on how they approached menstrual impurity. It demonstrates that menstruation was highly charged in Babylonian Judaism and Sasanian Zoroastrian, where menstrual discharge was conceived of as highly productive female seed yet at the same time as stemming from either primordial sin (Eve eating from the tree) or evil (Ahrimen's kiss). It argues that competition between rabbis and Zoroastrians concerning menstrual purity put pressure on the Talmudic system, for instance in the unusual development of an expert diagnostic system of discharges. It shows how Babylonian rabbis seriously considered removing women from the home during the menstrual period, as Mandaeans and Zoroastrians did, yet in the end deemed this possibility too "heretical." Finally, it examines three cases of Babylonian Jewish women initiating menstrual practices that carved out autonomous female space. One of these, the extension of menstrual impurity beyond the biblically mandated seven days, is paralleled in both Zoroastrian Middle Persian and Mandaic texts. Ultimately, Talmudic menstrual purity is shown to be driven by difference in its binary structure of pure and impure; in gendered terms; on a social axis between Jews and Sasanian non-Jewish communities; and textually in the way the Palestinian and Babylonian Talmuds took shape in late antiquity.
