Book Synopsis Srimad Bhagwat Puran by : B. K. Chaturvedi
Download or read book Srimad Bhagwat Puran written by B. K. Chaturvedi and published by Diamond Pocket Books Pvt Ltd. This book was released on 2020 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ‘Srimad Bhagwal’ itself is believed to be the gem among all the sacred Puranas as it emphasises on the devotion to Lord. Vishnu’s incarnation, Lord Krishna. It is believed to have been authored by the great sage Vedavyasa when he felt a great unrest troubling his soul after authoring the Mahabharat. Although this Purana itself is believed to be a part of Skanda Purana, it is its lyrical beauty and devotion to Krishna that made it most popular. It enlists 22 incarnations of Lord Vishnu, while other sacred accounts of the Sanatana Dharma believe that there were nine incarnations and one is yet to come. Normally in the Purana, the tales or stories frequently overlap with each other giving emphasis on a different point. Owing to paucity of space, many of the stories have been given a brief mention in this work with the footnote guiding to the sources, to get the full story in the other Puranas. There are also certain variations in the details of the stories which have been also marked within parenthesis. Also, many details mentioned in this Puran which may appear uninteresting, have been deliberately left out. Some of the stories which are well- known have been skipped. For example, the Ramakatha or the details about other incarnations popularised by other sacred sources. The main emphasis in culling out the stories has been on those stories that reveal the basic moral fiber of our ethos. These stories have been recreated keeping in mind the comprehension of our young learners and hence making these stories more logical. This work is only an attempt to make our society recapture its roots. That is why the language and style have been used with great care so as to make the stories readable and comprehensive. It is hoped that our discerning readership will accord it a warm welcome. Lastly, the author wishes to record his gratitude to Narenderji of Diamond Pocket Books whose crusade to publish the gems of our cultural and religious ethos has few parallels in the field of publishing.

Book Synopsis A Poison Like No Other by : Matt Simon
Download or read book A Poison Like No Other written by Matt Simon and published by Island Press. This book was released on 2022-10-27 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Informed, utterly blindsiding account.” - Booklist, starred review It’s falling from the sky and in the air we breathe. It’s in our food, our clothes, and our homes. It’s microplastic and it’s everywhere—including our own bodies. Scientists are just beginning to discover how these tiny particles threaten health, but the studies are alarming. In A Poison Like No Other, Matt Simon reveals a whole new dimension to the plastic crisis, one even more disturbing than plastic bottles washing up on shores and grocery bags dumped in landfills. Dealing with discarded plastic is bad enough, but when it starts to break down, the real trouble begins. The very thing that makes plastic so useful and ubiquitous – its toughness – means it never really goes away. It just gets smaller and smaller: eventually small enough to enter your lungs or be absorbed by crops or penetrate a fish’s muscle tissue before it becomes dinner. Unlike other pollutants that are single elements or simple chemical compounds, microplastics represent a cocktail of toxicity: plastics contain at least 10,000 different chemicals. Those chemicals are linked to diseases from diabetes to hormone disruption to cancers. A Poison Like No Other is the first book to fully explore this new dimension of the plastic crisis, following the intrepid scientists who travel to the ends of the earth and the bottom of the ocean to understand the consequences of our dependence on plastic. As Simon learns from these researchers, there is no easy fix. But we will never curb our plastic addiction until we begin to recognize the invisible particles all around us.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the biography of biographers gem-like father Sopankaka, an ardent devotee of Lord Vitthal of Pandharpur from Maharashtra and a follower of the Warkari sect. Born in a downtrodden and marginalized community mired in superstition and ignorance, illiterate Sopankaka had to toil a lot to earn his bread and butter. While doing the backbreaking work, he began his spiritual journey under the guidance of his guru. He began this journey through listening to recitation of scriptures by his guru and memorizing the matter the whole day while working. In this way he attained spiritual scholarship and became a master in his field. After getting acquainted with letters, this philanthropist educated people from his village, deaddicted them and made them get rid of superstitious practices. He showed them the virtuous path of divinity and ensured their well being through his noble guidance in day-to-day affairs. He spread his spiritual wisdom across Maharashtra through bhajans and kirtans. This book is the gripping account of an enlightened sage who not only brought transformation in his peoples lives but also moulded his children through upright values and education.
