Book Synopsis Simulation Modeling of Forest Landscape Disturbances by : Ajith H. Perera
Download or read book Simulation Modeling of Forest Landscape Disturbances written by Ajith H. Perera and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-27 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forest landscape disturbances are a global phenomenon. Simulation models are an important tool in understanding these broad scale processes and exploring their effects on forest ecosystems. This book contains a collection of insights from a group of ecologists who address a variety of processes: physical disturbances such as drought, wind, and fire; biological disturbances such as defoliating insects and bark beetles; anthropogenic influences; interactions among disturbances; effects of climate change on disturbances; and the recovery of forest landscapes from disturbances—all from a simulation modeling perspective. These discussions and examples offer a broad synopsis of the state of this rapidly evolving subject.

Book Synopsis Folding and Fracturing of Rocks by : C.E. Bond
Download or read book Folding and Fracturing of Rocks written by C.E. Bond and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2020-01-02 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Special Publication is a celebration of research into the Folding and Fracturing of Rocks to mark the 50th anniversary of the publication of the seminal textbook by J. G. Ramsay. Folding and Fracturing of Rocks summarised the key structural geology concepts of the time. Through his numerical and geometric focus John pioneered and provided solutions to understanding the processes leading to the folding and fracturing of rocks. His strong belief that numerical and geometric solutions, to understanding crustal processes, should be tested against field examples added weight and clarity to his work. The basic ideas and solutions presented in the text are as relevant now as they were 50 years ago, and this collection of papers celebrates John’s contribution to structural geology. The papers explore the lasting impact of John and his work, they present case studies and a modern understanding of the process documented in the Folding and Fracturing of Rocks.
Book Synopsis Tectonic and Stratigraphic Evolution of Zagros and Makran During the Mesozoic-Cenozoic by : Pascale Leturmy
Download or read book Tectonic and Stratigraphic Evolution of Zagros and Makran During the Mesozoic-Cenozoic written by Pascale Leturmy and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2010 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Zagros fold-thrust belt (ZFTB) extends from Turkey to the Hormuz Strait, resulting from the collision of the Arabian and Eurasian plates during Cenozoic times, and separates the Arabian platform from the large plateaux of central Iran. To the east a pronounced syntaxis marks the transition between the Zagros collision belt and the Makran accretionary wedge. In the ZFTB, the Proterozoic to Recent stratigraphic succession pile is involved in huge folds, and offers the opportunity to study the stratigraphic and tectonic evolution of the Palaeo-Tethyan margin. Few recent data were widely available on the southern Tethys margin preserved in the Zagros Mountains. The Middle East Basins Evolution (MEBE) program was an excellent opportunity to go back to the field and to collect new data to better constrain the evolution of this margin. In this volume the structure of the Zagros Mountains is explored through different scales and using different methodologies.
Book Synopsis Flow Processes in Faults and Shear Zones by : G. Ian Alsop
Download or read book Flow Processes in Faults and Shear Zones written by G. Ian Alsop and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2004 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Faults and their deeper level equivalents, shear zones, are localized regions of intense deformation within the Earth. They are recognized at all scales from micro to plate boundary, and are important examples of the nature of heterogeneous deformation in natural rocks. Faults and shear zones are significant as they profoundly influence the location, architecture and evolution of a broad range of geological phenomenao The topography and bathymetry of the Earth's surface is marked by mountain belts and sedimentary basins that are controlled by faults and shear zoneso In addition, faults and shear zones control fluid migration and transport including hydrothermal and hydrocarbon systems. Once faults and shear zones are established, they are often long-lived features prone to multiple reactivation over very large time-scales. This collection of papers addresses lithospheric deformation and the rheology of shear zones, together with processes of partitioning and the unravelling of fault and shear zone histories.

This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 17 papers presented here introduce results on geological and geophysical research centred largely along a North-South transect through the central Brooks Range of Arctic Alaska. Investigations centre on a descripton of the rocks and their tectonic evolution from the foreland to the hinterland of the orogen, the geometry and kinematics of contractional and extensional structures, regional and local stratigraphic relations, thermochronology, and the deep crustal structure of the Brooks Range and parts of the North Slope, and descriptions of the major lithotectonic assemblages, composing the orogenic belt.

Book Synopsis The Impacts of Igneous Systems on Sedimentary Basins and their Energy Resource by : B. Kilhams
Download or read book The Impacts of Igneous Systems on Sedimentary Basins and their Energy Resource written by B. Kilhams and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2024-08-13 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many sedimentary basins worldwide contain extrusive and intrusive igneous rock sequences, and these rocks and associated magmatic processes can exert profound influences on a diverse range of basin processes and elements, including multiscale structural and tectonic development, heat flow, transport of hydrocarbons and other basinal fluids, and the hydraulic properties and integrity of reservoir and sealing units. Recent years have witnessed increased focus on improved understanding of igneous processes in basins to aid hydrocarbon exploration and development projects, and there is growing interest in the multifaceted role that igneous sequences in basins may play in the energy transition, for example as components of carbon capture and storage projects, and sources of geothermal energy, natural hydrogen and helium. This volume showcases state-of-the-art research from both academia and industry, drawing on global examples and addressing reservoir-to-plate scales, providing critical new data, knowledge and technological capabilities that highlight the opportunities, complexities and potential pitfalls associated with unlocking the energy resources of sedimentary basins impacted by igneous processes.
