Book excerpt: Beyond the Hago Gate is a tantalising, historical fantasy story which will keep you gripped from the outset. The Kingdom of Harlem is ruled by the feckless King Bantu; a young bitter man who is blighted by dark secrets and terrible nightmares. Riddled with guilt and fear, he is plagued by an event which took place when he was just 16 years old and which still casts a murky shadow over the entire Kingdom. The Hago Gate was the setting for this life-changing day and to the King, this is a cursed place filled with poison and deadly secrets, which is why he has banished everyone from ever entering. His royal guards patrol the boundary constantly in an attempt to prevent any adventurers form discovering what lies behind it. Zogi, however, is a 10 year old boy with a fierce taste for adventure. He dreams about the vast treasures which lie behind the Hago Gate and, armed with his intuition, a magic apple, and an unexplainable mystical force, he makes it past the guards and over the forbidden gate. Discovering that this is a world of shadows, devastation and destruction, and that dangerous characters lurk there, too, Zogi fears for his life. Can Zogi really challenge and defeat the King without consequences? Will he ever escape the Hago Gate and return to the safety of his family and friends? Join him and King Bantu on an epic adventure which leads t the unearthing of a force more powerful than fear or determination; a force which opens the door to creativity and a realm of limitless possibilities. Take a glimpse into the exciting prologue and discover the dark secret that has forced the King to banish his citizens from the Hago Gate.

Book excerpt: What would you do if you were sitting quietly in your living room when a mysterious couple appeared from out of nowhere--and then told you they were "ascended masters" who had come to reveal some shocking secrets of existence and teach you the miraculous powers of advanced forgiveness? When two such teachers appeared before Gary Renard in 1992, he chose to listen to them (and ask a lot of impertinent questions). The result is this startling book: an extraordinary record of 17 mind-bending conversations that took place over nearly a decade, reorienting the author's life and giving the world an uncompromising introduction to a spiritual teaching destined to change human history.

Book excerpt: The Yamphu Rai are a Kiranti tribe of the Himalayas of Eastern Nepal. The Yamphu language belongs to a group of complex- pronominalising languages of the Tibeto-Burman branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family. This grammar consists of a description of the Yamphu dialect of Hedangna, a collection of oral texts and a lexicon. The majority of grammatical categories in Yamphu is expressed by means of suffixes. Nominal morphology includes number and case markers, postpositions and nominalising suffixes. Verbal morphology distinguishes auxiliary verbs, tense and agreement markers, mood suffixes and postpositions expressing inter- clausal relations. Information structure, too, is mainly expressed by means of suffixes. The texts included in this grammar represent various styles of speech, such as formulaic, mythological and conversational styles. Roland Rutgers studied Comparative Linguistics and conducted his research on the language of the Yamphu Rai as a member of the Himalayan Languages Project at Leiden University. Book excerpt: Initially published in French under the title Operation Nemesis, this revealing work is now available to the English-speaking public for the first time. It ranks as a major revision in the historic study of the Armenian resistance to the Ottoman genocide of Armenians.Operation Nemesis is a study of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (the Tashnak Party) and the individuals responsible for the execution of Turkish leaders. Until Derogy's book, it had been assumed that the assassins were acting out of personal and emotional motives. But through an amazing amount of detective work, it becomes clear that they were in fact part of a disciplined effort to seek retribution for historic crimes against the Armenian people. The work richly details Turkish plans for the liquidation of the Armenian people, the individuals selected to liquidate the genocidists, and above all, and most complex, to document for the first time the role of the organized Armenian political opposition to Turkish rule. In doing so, Derogy brings to light the relation between the legal party and its extra-legal arm; the mechanisms needed to implement the daring plan of assassination; and the special postwar circumstances in which the Armenian nation found itself - torn asunder by a Turkish-Soviet detente in which the independence of Armenia became the sacrificial pawn.Derogy worked closely with scholars around the world, and interviewed firsthand remaining survivors who had direct contact with the events described. His is a detective story of the first rank, no less than a piece of historical reconstruction with obvious portent for current Armenian efforts to recapture political legitimacy and personal pride.

Book excerpt: Literary Nonfiction. Poetry. Latinx Studies. LGBTQIA Studies. Edited by Ricardo F. Vivancos-Pèrez and Norma Cantú. Rooted in Gloria Anzaldúa's experiences growing up near the U.S./Mexico border, BORDERLANDS/LA FRONTERA remaps our understanding of borders as psychic, social, and cultural terrains that we inhabit and that inhabit us all. Drawing heavily on archival research and a comprehensive literature review while contextualizing the book within her theories and writings before and after its 1987 publication, this critical edition elucidates Anzaldúa's complex composition process and its centrality in the development of her philosophy. It opens with two introductory studies; offers a corrected text, explanatory footnotes, translations, and four archival appendices; and closes with an updated bibliography of Anzaldúa's works, an extensive scholarly bibliography on Borderlands, a brief biography, and a short discussion of the Gloria E. Anzaldúa Papers. "Ricardo F. Vivancos-Pèrez's meticulous archival work and Norma Elia Cantú's life experience and expertise converge to offer a stunning resource for Anzaldúa scholars; for writers, artists, and activists inspired by her work; and for everyone. Hereafter, no study of Borderlands will be complete without this beautiful, essential reference."--Paola Bacchetta

Based on the data, Forker provides a comprehensive analysis of Hinuq grammar with reference to other Nakh-Daghestanian languages, to Caucasian studies and to typological and general linguistic topics.
