Book excerpt: Between Verses is an anthology of poems, more so, the thoughts, the ideas and the musings of a young poet who’s on a journey to understand the world through her verses. This collection of poems is a conscious narrative of the life of a 26-year-old who believes that poetry answers the calling of her soul. Through these pages, one can discern and feel love, loss, death, silence, belonging, detachment, and distance among other things. She believes that people far and wide are all alike, and that they unite through the commonality of their dreams, desires and aspirations. However, in the chaos that is the world today, she is trying to bring out the lost essence of this commonality.

Book excerpt: In Once Caught, No Escape, Norman Grubb's autobiography, we come to know a remarkable soldier of Christ, one who has made a unique contribution to Christian thinking in the 20th century. This riveting account of his life includes a fascinating description of missionary life in the early 1900's in the heart of Africa, his memories of World War I army days, and his little-known role in the development of the Christian Literature Crusade and Intervarsity Fellowship. Norman shares the three spiritual crises that shaped his life-his salvation, his identity in Christ, and his seeming loss of faith. How he forever settled his Galatians 2:20 identity by faith is critical to an understanding of his life and serve as a roadmap for all facing the same heart cry, and his interpretation of his final crisis is a superb and concise summary of what he came to call the total truth, expanded and developed in his later works and was to become the keystone of his theology for the rest of his life. In the foreword to Once Caught, No Escape, Norman says that he has written "straight out of my heart and mind," and that he has surely done. He writes with unreserved honesty, self-deprecating humor, and profound insight. He was a man drenched in the scriptures, and totally dedicated to sharing the great truth of Jesus Christ-our savior, indweller, and life. He laid down his life that many others might come to know who they are in Christ, and paid the intercessor's price to do so. The book is aptly titled, for once God "captured" him, Norman was driven to share the truth he knew, no matter the cost.

Book excerpt: This paper investigates the impact of political interventions made by Beijing and Taipei in recent years on the development of cross-Straits economic relations. The study finds little evidence that either the missile firings carried out by Beijing in 1995 and 1996 or the mainland policy review conducted by Taipei since 1996 has slowed down the growth of trade and investment activities between mainland China and Taiwan. In fact, the trade dependence ratios for the two economies have continued to increase since 1995. Although the level of Taiwans committed investment in the mainland has dropped considerably in recent years, it has moved largely in line with the general trend of total FDI in China. The synchronism between Taiwan investment and other foreign investment suggests that the Taiwan investors, like other foreign investors, responded mainly to macroeconomic conditions and policies in the mainland, rather than to the directives from the Taiwan authorities, when they made their investment decisions. This is due to the fact that the economic logic of pursuing cross-Straits economic activities is so powerful that Taipei's restrictive policy toward investment in the mainland has often been ignored or diluted by the Taiwanese private business community.

Book excerpt: In this book, we will take a close look at the fascinating differences between the United States and Germany while posing the provocative question: "Fast Food vs. Bratwurst - Which nation has understood the societal revolution?" The American Fast Food Revolution The United States is undoubtedly a pioneer in the realm of fast food. With innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, they have created a culinary movement that has taken the world by storm. American fast food represents quick meals, convenience, and affordable options for people with busy lifestyles. This culinary revolution has transformed eating habits worldwide and inspired many countries to adopt similar concepts. The principle of "bigger, faster, farther" reflects the pioneering spirit that characterizes the USA. This has not only led to the emergence of iconic brands but also created millions of jobs and enabled a thriving economy. The German Bratwurst: Tradition or Stubbornness? Germany proudly holds onto its bratwurst tradition, and it undeniably has its charm. The bratwurst symbolizes German craftsmanship and quality. It represents coziness and traditional values. But could these qualities actually lead to a certain culinary stagnation? While the bratwurst is undoubtedly delicious, it may not be the only culinary option that Germany has to offer. One could argue that Germany, a country known for its precision and engineering, could do more to embrace new culinary trends and innovations.

This book was released on 2015-03-19 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For almost fifty years, much has been written concerning Mark 16:9-20. During the same time period, evidence once counted against Mark 16:9-20 was shown to be otherwise. In this study, David W. Hester surveys modern scholarship (1965-2011) surrounding the passage. He examines the passage itself--the external evidence, with particular attention paid to the manuscripts and the patristics, especially those of the second and third centuries; and the internal evidence, featuring details that are problematic as well as those that favor Markan authorship. Finally, a proposal concerning the origin of the passage is presented. The first edition of Mark's Gospel ended at 16:8, resulting in the manuscript tradition that omits the passage, but this was not his intended ending. Later, his associates attached Mark's notes and published a second edition of the Gospel with the last twelve verses. This led to its inclusion. Given that the passage is cited by second- and third-century witnesses and attributed to Mark, along with the biblical prohibition against adding to or taking from Scripture, it is doubtful that an anonymous second-century author could have been successful in adding his own composition and it being widely accepted by the early church.
