Book Synopsis Handbook of Measurements by : Adedeji B. Badiru
Download or read book Handbook of Measurements written by Adedeji B. Badiru and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 706 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Planning, measuring, and paying attention to details form the basis for all successful engineering operations. Measurements pervade everything we do and must be viewed from a systems perspective. A comprehensive all-encompassing guide to measurements, Handbook of Measurements: Benchmarks for Systems Accuracy and Precision focuses on high-level engineering computations essential for benchmarks and technical innovation. The book uses a systems framework and a technically rigorous approach to systems linking of measurements—an approach that sets it apart from other handbooks. The popular saying "measure twice and cut once" bears out the importance of measurements in human endeavors. This handbook covers both qualitative and quantitative topics of measurement. It opens with a chapter on the fundamentals of measurement and includes coverage of human-centric measurements, such as measurement of personnel productivity and contractor performance. It concludes with three appendices on measurement, references, conversion factors, equations, formulas, and statistics for measurement. It is well understood that humans cannot manage anything that cannot be measured. All elements involved in our day-to-day decision making involve some form of measurement, whether in the kitchen, retail, sports, service operations, geographical exploration, health care delivery, worker productivity, clothing design, engineering product design, or space craft launching. Measuring an attribute of a system and then analyzing it against some standard, some specification, some best practice, or some benchmark empower a decision maker to take appropriate and timely actions. This book gives you a guide for sustainable practices to ensure accurate measurements, helping you make decisions backed by metrics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first book of its kind, Handbook of Chemical Regulations: Benchmarking, Implementation, and Engineering Concepts introduces the concept of global harmonization and interlinks between regulations and examines the reasons behind major requirements for chemical manufacture, article production, and distribution, importation, and usage. A compendium of environmental, health and safety, and engineering concepts for global harmonization, the book provides a road map between regulations from the European Union, the United States, and other countries who adopt similar regulations. As with any road map, not every feature along the road is mapped; however, what is shown are the markers leading to a point where more effective stewardship of your industrial development and chemical usage base is possible. The book discusses the Eurpoean Union’s Regulation (EC) No 1907/ 2006 - Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), the Eurpean Union’ s Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 for classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures, and the United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) perspectives for Safety Data Sheet (SDS) development and product labeling. In addition, the United States Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) and Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) are presented as regards TSCA new substance review critiera and FIFRA required labeling. This compendium of information aids in the successful integration and implementation of the regulatory requirements—an integration that should lead to more efficient and effective business decisions. Rather than reacting to one regulation at a time, making policy decisions that reflect the underlying conceptual framework of GHS will lead to safer products and safer industrial production sites. Based on a framework for regulatory standards, this easy-to-read guide helps you understand the scientific concepts that are inherent in chemical usage and their interplay globally.

Book Synopsis Quantitative Models for Performance Evaluation and Benchmarking by : Joe Zhu
Download or read book Quantitative Models for Performance Evaluation and Benchmarking written by Joe Zhu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-04 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author is one of the prominent researchers in the field of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), a powerful data analysis tool that can be used in performance evaluation and benchmarking. This book is based upon the author’s years of research and teaching experiences. It is difficult to evaluate an organization’s performance when multiple performance metrics are present. The difficulties are further enhanced when the relationships among the performance metrics are complex and involve unknown tradeoffs. This book introduces Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) as a multiple-measure performance evaluation and benchmarking tool. The focus of performance evaluation and benchmarking is shifted from characterizing performance in terms of single measures to evaluating performance as a multidimensional systems perspective. Conventional and new DEA approaches are presented and discussed using Excel spreadsheets — one of the most effective ways to analyze and evaluate decision alternatives. The user can easily develop and customize new DEA models based upon these spreadsheets. DEA models and approaches are presented to deal with performance evaluation problems in a variety of contexts. For example, a context-dependent DEA measures the relative attractiveness of similar operations/processes/products. Sensitivity analysis techniques can be easily applied, and used to identify critical performance measures. Two-stage network efficiency models can be utilized to study performance of supply chain. DEA benchmarking models extend DEA’s ability in performance evaluation. Various cross efficiency approaches are presented to provide peer evaluation scores. This book also provides an easy-to-use DEA software — DEAFrontier. This DEAFrontier is an Add-In for Microsoft® Excel and provides a custom menu of DEA approaches. This version of DEAFrontier is for use with Excel 97-2013 under Windows and can solve up to 50 DMUs, subject to the capacity of Excel Solver. It is an extremely powerful tool that can assist decision-makers in benchmarking and analyzing complex operational performance issues in manufacturing organizations as well as evaluating processes in banking, retail, franchising, health care, public services and many other industries.
Book Synopsis Systems Benchmarking by : Samuel Kounev
Download or read book Systems Benchmarking written by Samuel Kounev and published by Springer. This book was released on 2021-08-29 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book serves as both a textbook and handbook on the benchmarking of systems and components used as building blocks of modern information and communication technology applications. It provides theoretical and practical foundations as well as an in-depth exploration of modern benchmarks and benchmark development. The book is divided into two parts: foundations and applications. The first part introduces the foundations of benchmarking as a discipline, covering the three fundamental elements of each benchmarking approach: metrics, workloads, and measurement methodology. The second part focuses on different application areas, presenting contributions in specific fields of benchmark development. These contributions address the unique challenges that arise in the conception and development of benchmarks for specific systems or subsystems, and demonstrate how the foundations and concepts in the first part of the book are being used in existing benchmarks. Further, the book presents a number of concrete applications and case studies based on input from leading benchmark developers from consortia such as the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC) and the Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC). Providing both practical and theoretical foundations, as well as a detailed discussion of modern benchmarks and their development, the book is intended as a handbook for professionals and researchers working in areas related to benchmarking. It offers an up-to-date point of reference for existing work as well as latest results, research challenges, and future research directions. It also can be used as a textbook for graduate and postgraduate students studying any of the many subjects related to benchmarking. While readers are assumed to be familiar with the principles and practices of computer science, as well as software and systems engineering, no specific expertise in any subfield of these disciplines is required.
