Dabei wird außer Acht gelassen, dass auch eine psychische Gewalt existiert, deren Instrument der Vermittlung häufig die Sprache ist. Doch wie kann Sprache nicht nur Gewalt androhen oder beschreiben, sondern sie auch selbst ausüben? Worte brechen einem Körper nicht die Knochen oder fügen ihm Wunden zu – und trotzdem wird davon gesprochen, dass mit Sprechhandlungen Gewalt vollzogen wird. Das Ziel der vorliegenden Seminararbeit ist es, anhand des Beispiels der Beleidigung zu zeigen, dass man mittels Sprache Gewalt vollziehen und ausüben kann. Des Weiteren sollen die Funktionen und Formen von Beleidigungen analysiert werden. Dazu wird zunächst untersucht, was unter sprachlicher Gewalt im Allgemeinen zu verstehen ist, wie sich ihre physischen und psychischen Aspekte unterscheiden lassen, in welchen verbalen Äußerungen sie auftritt und in welchem Kontext sie zu finden ist. Anschließend wird auf die Sprechakttheorien von John L. Austin und John R. Searle eingegangen. Sie sollen zum besseren Verständnis über das dienen, was passiert, wenn wir sprechen und wie mithilfe von Sprache Handlungen vollzogen werden können. Dies soll in der späteren Analyse der Beleidigungen dazu dienen, die sprachlichen Daten des Sprechaktes der Beleidigung besser verorten zu können. Abschließend werden alle Ergebnisse noch einmal zusammengefasst und bewertet.

Why then have recent centuries been so bloody? In Trust and Violence, acclaimed German intellectual and public figure Jan Philipp Reemtsma demonstrates that the aim of decreasing and deterring violence has gone hand in hand with the misleading idea that violence is abnormal and beyond comprehension. The main aim of the series is to provide an appropriate account of the state of the art in the various areas of linguistics and communication science covered by each of the various handbooks; however no inflexible pre-set limits will be imposed on the scope of each volume. The series is open-ended, and can thus take account of further developments in the field. This conception, coupled with the necessity of allowing adequate time for each volume to be prepared with the necessary care, means that there is no set time-table for the publication of the whole series. Each volume will be a self-contained work, complete in itself. The order in which the handbooks are published does not imply any rank ordering, but is determined by the way in which the series is organized; the editor of the whole series enlist a competent editor for each individual volume.
