Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conversations made up entirely of inside jokes. Netflix passwords, bizarre dreams, even French fries, all shared without a second thought. From husband-wife team Brooke Barker and Boaz Frankel, here’s that rare relationship book that captures the rituals and mini universe (Population: 2) that a couple can create together, in a sweet, small package with all the humor, charming illustrations, and endearing quirkiness that makes their It's Different Every Day Page-A-Day Calendar and Barker’s New York Times-bestselling Sad Animal Facts each cult favorites. Celebrating the uniqueness that makes each person, and each relationship, special, Let’s Be Weird Together includes a humorous timeline of how a loved one’s oddball habits go from annoying to swoon-worthy over time. Illustrations celebrate the Tiny Acts of Heroism you do for your #1 person—like saying you’re full when there’s only one bite of cake left, so they can enjoy it. Plus, fun facts on the habits of lovesick animals (they’re just like us!): Bowerbirds collect blue items to impress mates. Perfect for Valentine’s and anniversary gifts, it’s a hip, not-at-all saccharine way to say, "I-love-you-slash-I-love-being-weird-with-you!"

For a marriage to survive, it is important that each marriage partner understands the different experiences and perspectives that their partner brings to the marriage relationship. Marriages may begin with a romantic idea of love, but that alone is usually not enough to ensure a long-lasting union. Our book presents a dialogue between husband and wife (ourselves) concerning the issues that commonly arise in marriages—including our own. While this dialogue consists of e-mails written to each other (like letters in an earlier era), it was not edited later to reduce conflicting opinions or uncomfortable feelings. We believe that, whenever possible, honest communication is the best way to deal with the difficulties that arise in a marriage.

Explore more than 80 recipes plus essays, tips, and activities for the whole family that show how cooking together and sharing family meals can help build healthy relationships with food and with each other. With unique insights from a New York Times–starred chef dad and an award-winning psychologist mom, Eating Together, Being Together is much more than a cookbook. It teaches parents and children from toddlerhood through the teen years how to engage around cooking and mealtime. Each chapter offers easy-to-make recipes using fresh ingredients accompanied by thoughts and tips on using mindfulness to deal with picky eating, listening skills, academic stress, and more. This structure allows preparing and eating meals together to be meaningful, where kids and their parents, guardians, and caregivers can learn from one another and grow closer. Recipes include a range of food options to accommodate varying tastes with accessible step-by-step instructions for parents and kids. Activities for each chapter tie in key themes for cooking and for life and are presented in a developmentally thoughtful way for young children, preteens, teens, and grown-ups. From eating mindfulness and having honest food conversations to building rituals that support togetherness, this book explores how the family meal, whether cooking or eating, can bring families closer together. Whether it's kids sharing their feelings while they mix batter, or adults telling stories of their childhood while enjoying a favorite recipe, a special kind of bonding happens around food. Eating Together, Being Together gives you the recipes and activities for that bonding experience and helps set the table for connection.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being Together in Place explores the landscapes that convene Native and non-Native people into sustained and difficult negotiations over their radically different interests and concerns. Grounded in three sites—the Cheslatta-Carrier traditional territory in British Columbia; the Wakarusa Wetlands in northeastern Kansas; and the Waitangi Treaty Grounds in Aotearoa/New Zealand—this book highlights the challenging, tentative, and provisional work of coexistence around such contested spaces as wetlands, treaty grounds, fishing spots, recreation areas, cemeteries, heritage trails, and traditional village sites. At these sites, activists learn how to articulate and defend their intrinsic and life-supportive ways of being, particularly to those who are intent on damaging or destroying these places. Using ethnographic research and a geographic perspective, Soren C. Larsen and Jay T. Johnson show how the communities in these regions challenge the power relations that structure the ongoing (post)colonial encounter in liberal democratic settler-states. Emerging from their conversations with activists was a distinctive sense that the places for which they cared had agency, a “call” that pulled them into dialogue, relationships, and action with human and nonhuman others. This being-together-in-place, they find, speaks in a powerful way to the vitalities of coexistence: where humans and nonhumans are working to decolonize their relationships; where reciprocal guardianship is being stitched back together in new and unanticipated ways; and where a new kind of “place thinking” is emerging on the borders of colonial power.

Book excerpt: Despite the fact that most parents are employed, how work affects the lives and well-being of parents and their children remains relatively unexplored. A recent study of 500 dual-career families in 8 communities across the US provides a holistic view of the complexities of work and family life experienced by parents and their children. Drawing on the study, this book explores how dual-earner families cope with the stresses and demands of balancing work and family life, whether the time parents spend working is negatively affecting their children, how mothers feel managing both work and household responsibilities, and what role fathers are taking in family life. In answering these questions the authors argue for a new balance between work and family life. The book with its rich data, findings, and commentary from an interdisciplinary group of scholars provides a valuable resource for academics, policy makers, and working parents

Here is your invitation to build lasting friendship through meaningful and intentional practices that anyone can do. The older we get, the less we find ourselves spending time in the company of good friends. Organic friendship becomes nearly impossible—after all, there are all sorts of obligations tugging at our attention. Or we find ourselves getting frustrated with shallow, draining conversations. Or, most painful of all, we feel like no one wants us—and who wants to be rejected? If you have found yourself desperately wanting connection but confused about why you are not experiencing it, you are not alone. And you don’t have to stay there. As Christian women, our faith calls us to support one another on the path of growing as a follower of Jesus—a call that will connect us, create a solid foundation for trust, and bind us together in Jesus’ love, no matter what struggles we face on the road of friendship. Together Is a Beautiful Place offers practical habits that are sustainable, deep, and valuable. You will identify what makes a godly, lasting friendship; tackle lies and false expectations about what it takes to build lasting friendship; and learn to tackle the barriers to friendship and invite healthy friendship rhythms. You will find that it is possible to grow healthy friendships, starting now.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • This joyful rhyming book encourages children to value the “different” in all people, leading the way to a kinder world in which the differences in all of us are celebrated and embraced. Macy is a girl who’s a lot like you and me, but she's also quite different, which is a great thing to be. With kindness, grace, and bravery, Macy finds her place in the world, bringing beauty and laughter wherever she goes and leading others to find delight in the unique design of every person. Children are naturally aware of the differences they encounter at school, in their neighborhood, and in other everyday relationships. They just need to be given tools to understand and appreciate what makes us “different,” permission to ask questions about it, and eyes to see and celebrate it in themselves as well as in those around them.
