IRREPARABLE HARM Skillful plotting, surprising twists, and a cracking pace keep readers turning the pages in this gripping legal thriller. Downloaded by more than two million readers! Attorney Sasha McCandless has one goal: Make partner at the best firm in town. Then a plum assignment plunges her into a world of deceit and danger. She's tapped to defend an airline when a commercial flight crashes, killing everyone aboard. It's her big chance—high-stakes litigation for an important client. But, as she digs into the evidence, people close to the case start to die. When she discovers the crash was intentional, she teams up with a federal air marshal to prevent another disaster. Soon, Sasha finds herself with a brand-new life goal: Stop a madman before he kills her. INADVERTENT DISCLOSURE Tiny dynamo Sasha McCandless returns in the acclaimed follow-up to Irreparable Harm! It was supposed to be a routine discovery motion. It wasn't. When Sasha travels to rural Clear Brook County for a discovery argument, the judge appoints her counsel to an angry senior citizen facing a competency hearing. Then she's attacked by a group of environmental activists who mistake her for an oil and gas industry executive. Fracking of the Marcellus Shale has left the community bitterly divided and mistrustful of outsiders. She's eager for her appointment to end so she can leave for good. Then the town's only judge is murdered, and she can't walk away. Instead, she races to find the killer against a backdrop of secrets, backroom deals, and corruption, as the town threatens to fracture beyond repair. IRRETRIEVABLY BROKEN “Till death do us part” takes on gruesome significance in Irretrievably Broken. Prescott & Talbott is reeling from the murder of partner Ellen Mortenson—allegedly at the hands of her estranged husband—when a photograph of the dead woman is delivered to the law firm, her face Xed out and "ONE DOWN" scrawled across the bottom. Within days, a second partner is murdered, her husband also accused. Sasha doesn't practice criminal defense, but her former firm asks her to represent Ellen’s husband. Owing Prescott a favor, she takes the case despite her misgivings. Soon she’s representing both of the so-called Lady Lawyer Killers. The long hours take a toll on her own nascent relationship. That’s the least of Sasha’s troubles, though. The real killer is waging a vendetta for a past case gone wrong—and there's one more lawyer on his list.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neurosurgery o/the Future: Computers and Robots in Clinical Neurosurgical Practice and in Training - a Philosophical Journey into the Future Many present day neurosurgeons believe that they already obtain good results in operative surgery with the benefit of the operating microscope and other aids which have become available in the last three decades and that the introduction of computers and robots to the operating theatre is superfluous. However, it is clear from analogy with the function of the airline pilot, another profession where there are great demands on manual skill and on spatial awareness, that these devices do have much to offer neurosurgery. Classical neurosurgery, in the time of Cushing, Dandy and Scarff, was based on a three dimensional picture of the patient's brain formed in the surgeon's mind and often illustrated in elegant drawings. Such pictures were based on neuroradiological studies by pneumoencephalography, ventriculography or by angiography. Generally these stud ies showed the presence and position of a lesion by displacement of normal brain structures and the picture was built up by interference. This was then converted by the experienced neurosurgeon into a plan for the craniotomy site and the trajectory of the surgical approach. Once the brain was exposed further pre-operative information was obtained by visual inspection and by palpation with the brain needle. These classical forms ofneuroradiology have largely been superseded by computerised tomography and by magnetic resonance imaging.

Book Synopsis Solid-Phase Organic Syntheses, Volume 1 by : Anthony W. Czarnik
Download or read book Solid-Phase Organic Syntheses, Volume 1 written by Anthony W. Czarnik and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004-04-07 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid expansion of combinatorial chemistry has renewed interest in solid-phase organic synthesis, a method that lends itself well to creating and screening large numbers of lead compounds. Solid-Phase Organic Syntheses, Volume 1 is the first volume in a series that will be updated annually, filling a gap in the existing chemical literature. Providing information previously unavailable from a single resource, this series is dedicated to providing researchers in the field with validated and tested methods for the solid-phase synthesis of interesting and biologically relevant molecules. Solid-phase methods will virtually always be invented for application in combinatorial organic synthesis. To meet these specific needs, Solid-Phase Organic Syntheses, Volume 1 focuses on a single type of synthetic transformation accomplished on solid support, and indicates how procedures are optimized to work with a structurally-wide variety of reagents. Written by recognized leaders in the field who review and test all chemical protocols before publication, organic transformations are organized by type of compound synthesized and reaction type. For the first time, experimental details for proven solid-phase synthetic molecules are collected in a single, invaluable resource. Solid-Phase Organic Syntheses, Volume 1 provides combinatorial chemists and researchers in organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry with the tools and descriptive protocols to achieve syntheses of desired compounds using a variety of solid supports and reagents.
Book Synopsis T&T Clark Encyclopedia of Second Temple Judaism Volume One by : Loren T. Stuckenbruck
Download or read book T&T Clark Encyclopedia of Second Temple Judaism Volume One written by Loren T. Stuckenbruck and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2019-12-26 with total page 541 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The T&T Clark Encyclopedia of Second Temple Judaism provides a comprehensive reference resource of over 600 scholarly articles aimed at scholars and students interested in Judaism of the Second Temple Period. The two-volume work is split into four parts. Part One offers a prolegomenon for the contemporary study and appreciation of Second Temple Judaism, locating the discipline in relation to other relevant fields (such as Hebrew Bible, Rabbinics, Christian Origins). Beginning with a discussion of terminology, the discussion suggests ways the Second Temple period may be described, and concludes by noting areas of study that challenge our perception of ancient Judaism. Part Two presents an overview of respective contexts of the discipline set within the broad framework of historical chronology corresponding to a set of full-colour, custom-designed maps. With distinct attention to primary sources, the author traces the development of historical, social, political, and religious developments from the time period following the exile in the late 6th century B.C.E. through to the end of the Bar Kokhba revolt (135 C.E.). Part Three focuses specifically on a wide selection of primary-source literature of Second Temple Judaism, summarizing the content of key texts, and examining their similarities and differences with other texts of the period. Essays here include a brief introduction to the work and a summary of its contents, as well as examination of critical issues such as date, provenance, location, language(s), and interpretative matters. The early reception history of texts is also considered, and followed by a bibliography specific to that essay. Numerous high-resolution manuscript images are utilized to illustrate distinct features of the texts. Part Four addresses topics relevant to the Second Temple Period such as places, practices, historical figures, concepts, and subjects of scholarly discussion. These are often supplemented by images, maps, drawings, or diagrams, some of which appear here for the first time. Copiously illustrated, carefully researched and meticulously referenced, this resource provides a reliable, up-to-date and complete guide for those studying early Judaism in its literary and historical settings.
