Book excerpt: Because Japan 日本ですから, is a truly unabashed account of the less publicised side of life in Tokyo for a 'foreigner'. The book offers a witty, vivid and honest insight into the daily life of a British Expat over the course of two years. The author narrates stories taken from his "Journal of Firsts" which depict many new events including his first struggle, first mental challenge, and first exciting moment he faced living in this strange and fascinating new world. Through the use of newly learned Japanese phrases whilst travelling the country, themes of soul-searching, overcoming mental health obstacles, sexual orientation, racial discrimination, and culture shock are explored with honesty and candour. With the addition of a train-based mini series of hilarious encounters, Because Japan 日本ですから offers a behind the scenes insight into the 'real' Japan.

Book Synopsis The Business Reinvention of Japan by : Ulrike Schaede
Download or read book The Business Reinvention of Japan written by Ulrike Schaede and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2020-06-16 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After two decades of reinvention, Japanese companies are re-emerging as major players in the new digital economy. They have responded to the rise of China and new global competition by moving upstream into critical deep-tech inputs and advanced materials and components. This new "aggregate niche strategy" has made Japan the technology anchor for many global supply chains. Although the end products do not carry a "Japan Inside" label, Japan plays a pivotal role in our everyday lives across many critical industries. This book is an in-depth exploration of current Japanese business strategies that make Japan the world's third-largest economy and an economic leader in Asia. To accomplish their reinvention, Japan's largest companies are building new processes of breakthrough innovation. Central to this book is how they are addressing the necessary changes in organizational design, internal management processes, employment, and corporate governance. Because Japan values social stability and economic equality, this reinvention is happening slowly and methodically, and has gone largely unnoticed by Western observers. Yet, Japan's more balanced model of "caring capitalism" is both competitive and transformative, and more socially responsible than the unbridled growth approach of the United States.

Book Synopsis Japan, Internationalism and the UN by : R. P. Dore
Download or read book Japan, Internationalism and the UN written by R. P. Dore and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-11-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Japan has enormous economic power and yet is a minor player in international politics. In part this has been due to the partnership with US, but now with the end of cold war there is a fierce debate going on in Japan regarding the international political role for the nation. This book is a response to the issues raised and was originally published in Japanese for a Japanese audience. Ronald Dore provides a full analysis of Japan's post war international position and in particular its role within the UN, the use of armed force and constitution. Japan, Internationalism and the UN provides a unique insight into Japan's foreign policy and its related domestic politics. It is the product of nearly half a century of study and discussion with the Japanese themselves about their place in the world.

Download or read book Dilemma in Japan written by Andrew Roth and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2018-03-12 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of this book believes that certain Americans and Englishmen favor a peace formula for Japan which will provide only for a temporary truce. Just as German militarists and their industrial supporters were left in power after the First World War, in the same manner these men would leave the Japanese Emperor and his imperialist partners off control of Japan after this war. Believing that most Americans want permanent peace in spite of the cost, Mr. Roth provides a forceful analysis of the alternatives which face us—and the Japanese people. He shows first what we can expect from a defeated Japan if we follow this expedient but short-sighted policy of leaving the government in the hands of the so-called “moderates.” He points out that such a procedure would rule out the reconstruction of Japan on a democratic basis, for it would maintain in power the leading industrial giants, the Zaibatsu, of whom the greatest is the Emperor. These, combined with the semi-feudal landlords, of whom Hirohito is also the leader, have always followed a policy of economic imperialism, whether by means of military conquest or by the subtler methods of the “moderates.” This book is an honest warning by a keen analyst of Far Eastern affairs. We must realize before it is too late that we are headed toward disaster if we court the status quo in Japan. Here it is clearly demonstrated that a policy of appeasing the “moderates” can only end at another Pearl Harbor.
