Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies show the most reliable scientific predictor of personality is birth order-your place among your siblings. The Birth Order Book of Love is the first guide to consider this factor when finding the perfect mate. Why do firstborns often find romance with lastborns? Who's the worst match for an only child? Cane examines the 12 personality/birth order types (older brother of brothers, younger sister of sisters, etc.), revealing why certain birth orders are more compatible and which ones can present communication challenges (and how to overcome them). Cane has analyzed the birth order of 6,000 celebrities, historical figures, and modern couples. Readers will learn what birth order says about them, which celebrity they'd be most compatible with, and who their best match is in real life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings to light central topics that are neglected in current histories and theories of architecture and urbanism. These include the role of imitation in earlier centuries and its potential role in present practice; the necessary relationship between architecture, urbanism and the rural districts; and their counterpart in the civil order that builds and uses what is built. The narrative traces two models for the practice of architecture. One follows the ancient model in which the architect renders his service to serve the interests of others; it survives and is dominant in modernism. The other, first formulated in the fifteenth century by Leon Battista Alberti, has the architect use his talent in coordination with others to contribute to the common good of a republican civil order that seeks to protect its own liberty and that of its citizens. Palladio practiced this way, and so did Thomas Jefferson when he founded a uniquely American architecture, the counterpart to the nation’s founding. This narrative gives particular emphasis to the contrasting developments in architecture on the opposite sides of the English Channel. The book presents the value for clients and architects today and in the future of drawing on history and tradition. It stresses the importance, indeed, the urgency, of restoring traditional practices so that we can build just, beautiful, and sustainable cities and rural districts that will once again assist citizens in living not only abundantly but also well as they pursue their happiness.

Philosophy does not consist of making things complicated and incomprehensible like today's degenerate philosophies do. In this book, no philosophical phrases are discussed in order to play mental soccer. This book gives basics about life, which one can apply to lead to a fulfilled, happy existence. Basic questions about life itself are solved. What is life? What is man? Is it that a creature arose from mud by chance as science tells you? Or is it that matter is motivated by a soul as the priest makes you believe. Why does man think the way he thinks? What is the goal of existence?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until 2015, Pradeep Sebastian was a contented bibliophile, quite far from the serious book collector anxiously checking his email alerts. Things, however, took a dramatic turn when he chanced upon fine press books - printed on a handpress, from metal type pressed into dampened handmade paper, the tactility and typographic beauty of letterpress books instantly captivated him. There was no looking back. In absorbing prose, the author retraces his fulfilling journey of collecting fine books online, his new-found love for modern calligraphic and illuminated manuscripts, and his discovery of the masters of bookmaking - be it the cloistered nuns who printed impeccable fine press books, or the famous printer who lived in a one-room apartment at a YMCA with his small handpress tucked under his bed. Peppered with vivid anecdotes and delightful conversations, The Book Beautiful is as much about the love for fine books as it is about the pleasures of bibliophily - the camaraderie between fellow collectors and dealers, bibliographic connoisseurship, the thrill of the chase, and the joy of striking a juicy bargain.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is it that makes something beautiful? Is beauty solely in the eye of the beholder, or something deeper, more significant? In Beauty (and the Banana), Nixon writes as an introductory book for Christian leaders, providing the reader an overview of the historical, hermeneutical, and heuristic considerations of beauty. Using the artwork Comedian (a banana taped to a wall) by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan as a springboard, Nixon addresses various fundamental factors of beauty—ontology (being), teleology (form and understanding), and immutability (transcendence and eternality). Integrating poetry and classical ideals throughout, Beauty (and the Banana)’s response to the above questions may surprise all who read—beauty is more than meets the eye.
