Book Synopsis Baryon Number Violation At The Electroweak Scale - First Yale-texas Workshop by : Lawrence M Krauss
Download or read book Baryon Number Violation At The Electroweak Scale - First Yale-texas Workshop written by Lawrence M Krauss and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1992-10-28 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the proceedings of an up-to-date and comprehensive meeting devoted to the question whether baryon number violation can occur — in the standard model of weak and electromagnetic interactions — at rates which can be relevant to cosmology and particle experiment. There has been a great deal of activity and many new results in the past year, and the meeting was the first occasion for a review of the field. It is the only source in which all the work in this field is reviewed in a single volume. As such, it would provide a useful reference for graduate students and researchers wanting to learn more about this area.
Book Synopsis Cosmological Implications of Quantum Anomalies by : Neil David Barrie
Download or read book Cosmological Implications of Quantum Anomalies written by Neil David Barrie and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-07-21 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The successes of the standard models of particle physics and cosmology are many, but have proven incapable of explaining all the phenomena that we observe. This book investigates the potentially important role of quantum physics, particularly quantum anomalies, in various aspects of modern cosmology, such as inflation, the dynamical generation of the visible and dark matter in the universe, and gravitational waves. By doing so, the authors demonstrate that exploring the links between cosmology and particle physics is key to helping solve the mysteries of our Universe.

Book Synopsis Baryon Number Violation At The Ssc? - Proceedings Of The Santa Fe Workshop by : Michael P Mattis
Download or read book Baryon Number Violation At The Ssc? - Proceedings Of The Santa Fe Workshop written by Michael P Mattis and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1990-07-13 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has recently been realized that Baryon Number, a fundamental symmetry in all observed high energy physics reactions, is NOT exactly conserved in the STANDARD ELECTROWEAK (WEINBERG-SALAM) THEORY, at energies of order 10 TeV or higher. This raises the tantalizing possibility of DIRECTLY PRODUCING BARYON NUMBER VIOLATING PROCESSES IN THE NEW GENERATION OF PARTICLE ACCELERATORS, such as the SSC. The Santa Fe Workshop on Baryon Number Violation at the SSC is the first Workshop to bring together experts in the subject to address the very interesting theoretical issues in non-perturbative field theory that need to be settled in order to decide if this possibility may actually be realized.

This book was released on 2018-10-13 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding of protons and neutrons, or "nucleons"â€"the building blocks of atomic nucleiâ€"has advanced dramatically, both theoretically and experimentally, in the past half century. A central goal of modern nuclear physics is to understand the structure of the proton and neutron directly from the dynamics of their quarks and gluons governed by the theory of their interactions, quantum chromodynamics (QCD), and how nuclear interactions between protons and neutrons emerge from these dynamics. With deeper understanding of the quark-gluon structure of matter, scientists are poised to reach a deeper picture of these building blocks, and atomic nuclei themselves, as collective many-body systems with new emergent behavior. The development of a U.S. domestic electron-ion collider (EIC) facility has the potential to answer questions that are central to completing an understanding of atoms and integral to the agenda of nuclear physics today. This study assesses the merits and significance of the science that could be addressed by an EIC, and its importance to nuclear physics in particular and to the physical sciences in general. It evaluates the significance of the science that would be enabled by the construction of an EIC, its benefits to U.S. leadership in nuclear physics, and the benefits to other fields of science of a U.S.-based EIC.

Book Synopsis Arsenals of Folly by : Richard Rhodes
Download or read book Arsenals of Folly written by Richard Rhodes and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2008-11-04 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pulitzer Prize-winning author Richard Rhodes delivers a riveting account of the nuclear arms race and the Cold War. In the Reagan-Gorbachev era, the United States and the Soviet Union came within minutes of nuclear war, until Gorbachev boldly launched a campaign to eliminate nuclear weapons, setting the stage for the 1986 Reykjavik summit and the incredible events that followed. In this thrilling, authoritative narrative, Richard Rhodes draws on personal interviews with both Soviet and U.S. participants and a wealth of new documentation to unravel the compelling, shocking story behind this monumental time in human history—its beginnings, its nearly chilling consequences, and its effects on global politics today.
