Book Synopsis Genetic Transformation Systems in Fungi, Volume 2 by : Marco A. van den Berg
Download or read book Genetic Transformation Systems in Fungi, Volume 2 written by Marco A. van den Berg and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-31 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fungi are an economic very important class of microbes. Not only do they host a range of versatile enzymes used in industrial applications (biofuels, laundry, food processing), as well do they produce several very important pharmaceutical drugs (statins and penicillins). Moreover, fungal pathogens can cause great damage in agricultural production (Phytophthora and Botrytis) and during mammalian infections (Penicillium marneffei and Candida). Transformation of DNA is used to understand the genetic basis behind these traits. Several different techniques have been developed over the years and readily shown to be decisive methods to improve fungal biotechnology. This book will cover the basics behind the most commonly used transformation methods, as well as associated tools and techniques. Each chapter will provide protocols along with examples to be used in laboratories worldwide.

Joining his farcical gems Bloodsucking Fiends and You Suck, Moore’s latest in continuing story of young, urban, nosferatu style love, is no Twilight—but rather a tsunami of the irresistible outrageousness that has earned him the appellation, “Stephen King with a whoopee cushion and a double-espresso imagination” from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and inspired Denver’s Rocky Mountain News to declare him, “the 21st century’s best satirist.”

Download or read book Barrage written by Dean Marshall and published by Swath. This book was released on 2002-02-26 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Barrage is a hot young touring group of seven violinists, one percussionist, one kit player, guitarist, bass and keyboard players, performing a mix of original world beat music by Dean Marshall, with infectious and irresistible energy. Barrage combines jazz, swing, Celtic roots, rock, klezmer, country, calypso and every musical style in between to create an eclectic and electrifying assault on the senses. After hundreds of requests for the music of Barrage, this volume of sheet music has finally been produced. The texture of the music has been simplified from the group's seven parts down to 1 to 3 violin parts, with various markings included (bar numbers, fingerings, and bowings) which can be useful in group situations. In terms of difficulty, these arrangements are definitely written for the more intermediate to advanced player. The companion Enhanced CD has two exciting applications: You can print the piano/guitar accompaniment sheet music from your computer, and you can insert the same CD in your stereo for play along with the pre-recorded piano accompaniment tracks!"

Book Synopsis The History of the Second Division 1914-1918 - Volume 2 by : Everard Wyrall
Download or read book The History of the Second Division 1914-1918 - Volume 2 written by Everard Wyrall and published by Andrews UK Limited. This book was released on 2013-01-02 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of the six pre-war regular divisions only two, 2nd and 5th, published a detailed history of their part in the Great War. The 2nd Division landed in France with the original BEF as part of I Corps (Haig) between 11 and 16 August 1914. It was not directly engaged at Mons and such casualties as were sustained (10 killed 80 wounded) were from artillery fire. During the retreat it was engaged at Landrecies (4th Guards Brigade) and Villers Cotterets but its first major battles were at the Marne and the Aisne, and subsequently it fought in all the battles of First Ypres. During the three months September to the end of November 1914 it suffered some 8,500 casualties. At the end of 1914 the division moved south to the Bethune sector where it remained throughout 1915, still in I Corps. It was at Festubert, Loos and the Hohenzollern Redoubt, which in all cost almost 9,000 casualties. In February 1916 it moved down to the Vimy sector in IV Corps where it stayed till July; the next move was to the Somme. Here the division had a protracted spell, till March 1917, during which time it was in action at Delville Wood, Guillemont and the Ancre incurring nearly 8,000 casualties. The 2nd was one of the few divisions not involved Third Ypres (July-November 1917) but it had earlier taken part in the April/May Arras offensive and later, in November/December, in the Battle of Cambrai. Throughout 1918 the division was in the line for much of the time, in the German offensive and in the Advance to Victory; its final action was the Battle of the Selle, 23-25 October. The final casualty figure was around 45,000. Seventeen VCs were won, and two of the commanders went on to greater things - Monro to Commander in Chief India, and Horne to command of First Army. The division took part in the march to the Rhine occupying the area around Cologne. In March 1919 the division ceased to exist as such when it was redesignated 'The Light Division.' The history is a very good one by probably the most prolific of all the authors of formation and regimental histories of the Great War. The detailed account is easy to follow and the Wyrall has taken care to name many individuals in the actions and events he is describing. Casualty details are given in appendices and in the text, and there is a nominal roll of divisional staff with all the changes throughout the war.
