Book Synopsis Musical Collaboration Between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous People in Australia by : Katelyn Barney
Download or read book Musical Collaboration Between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous People in Australia written by Katelyn Barney and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-12-22 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book demonstrates the processes of intercultural musical collaboration and how these processes contribute to facilitating positive relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Australia. Each of the chapters in this edited collection examines specific examples in diverse contexts, and reflects on key issues that underpin musical exchanges, including the benefits and challenges of intercultural music making. The collection demonstrates how these musical collaborations allow Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to work together, to learn from each other, and to improve and strengthen their relationships. The metaphor of the “third space” of intercultural music making is interwoven in different ways throughout this volume. While focusing on Indigenous Australian/non-Indigenous intercultural musical collaboration, the book will be of interest globally as a resource for scholars and postgraduate students exploring intercultural musical communication in countries with histories of colonisation, such as New Zealand and Canada.

Book Synopsis Speculative Everything by : Anthony Dunne
Download or read book Speculative Everything written by Anthony Dunne and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2013-12-06 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to use design as a tool to create not only things but ideas, to speculate about possible futures. Today designers often focus on making technology easy to use, sexy, and consumable. In Speculative Everything, Anthony Dunne and Fiona Raby propose a kind of design that is used as a tool to create not only things but ideas. For them, design is a means of speculating about how things could be—to imagine possible futures. This is not the usual sort of predicting or forecasting, spotting trends and extrapolating; these kinds of predictions have been proven wrong, again and again. Instead, Dunne and Raby pose “what if” questions that are intended to open debate and discussion about the kind of future people want (and do not want). Speculative Everything offers a tour through an emerging cultural landscape of design ideas, ideals, and approaches. Dunne and Raby cite examples from their own design and teaching and from other projects from fine art, design, architecture, cinema, and photography. They also draw on futurology, political theory, the philosophy of technology, and literary fiction. They show us, for example, ideas for a solar kitchen restaurant; a flypaper robotic clock; a menstruation machine; a cloud-seeding truck; a phantom-limb sensation recorder; and devices for food foraging that use the tools of synthetic biology. Dunne and Raby contend that if we speculate more—about everything—reality will become more malleable. The ideas freed by speculative design increase the odds of achieving desirable futures.

Download or read book Magical Adventures for All Ages written by Alfred H. Berger and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-03-12 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This expressive novel follows John Ryan as he narrates his journey from adolescence to adulthood, detailing his struggles with an oppressive mother, his early sexual confusion and experimentation, and his family's and society's view of homosexuality as a shamefully perversion. It dramatically unfolds with expert attention to emotional nuance and colorful dialogue. The reader is immediately immersed in the darkness and claustrophobia of the narrator's world. The scenes detailing John's sexual experiences are vivid and intense; they are each unique and psychologically revealing. Though Youth is Gone is a compelling and interesting emotional portrait of a boy/man's journey.
