Book excerpt: DIVE INTO THE GREAT WIDE OPEN Young. Hungry. Visionary. Chris Zadeh saw a future few could ever imagine possible. When he presented his idea--coding a new core banking engine in the cloud--bankers laughed. They scoffed. Then they rejected his revolutionary idea outright. They said, "The cloud's not safe." "Who do you think you are--telling us how to run our banks?" "And who the hell is ever going to put a bank on the cloud?" Chris Zadeh and his team of underdogs knew the answer: everyone. They also knew the cloud wasn't just safe, it was the future of banking. And more than anything, he knew exactly who he and his team were: they were Ohpen, the first software company in the world to put a bank on the cloud. Together, this band of brothers harnessed their give-it-all mentality, fighting spirit, and bold vision to change how the world banks. In this surprising, unfiltered, outstandingly told story, Banking the Cloud takes the reader on an epic journey--from thrill of discovery, to the devastation of defeat, and to an exhilarating and last-minute rally that changed everything. This is a remarkable tale of what it takes to innovate, survive, and ultimately win no matter what the obstacle. You'll find it impossible to put this book down.

And also the banks are committed to serve their customers with the help of currently advanced technology. The aim of a bank is to give consistent and satisfactory banking services for the customers. The use of advanced technology in banking requires sophisticated knowledge of the technology and expertise and a large number of employees are required for implementation and management of that system.Cloud computing makes easy the management of IT infrastructure and the bank sector systems. Cloud service providers provide three basic types of services: infrastructure as a service, software as a service and platform as a service. In a cloud environment, there are concerns in the security and confidentiality of the data placed at the cloud. The main purpose of the study is design the cloud computing architecture for Dashen bank, which will reduce the labor need for managing IT infrastructure and system and enhance the use of technology with the required security verification. The study focused on designing aspects of cloud computing. The study used interview, observation and document analysis to gather the data. The interview was conducted on the selected department and employee of the bank. The observation was at the data center of the Dashen bank using a checklist. All the required data was collected from the head quarter of Dashen bank. The study revealed the management of the bank recognized the potential benefit of cloud computing and has started dealing with companies like Microsoft and IBM to adopt the technology. However, because of the absence of regulatory framework and security concerns, immediate adoption of cloud computing tend to difficult.Future researcher needs to focus on assessing and developing an appropriate security system for bank sector. In addition, appropriate policy and procedure needs to be crafted by the regulatory body like NBE and MICT.

Book excerpt: The 2008 global financial crisis and the concurrent rise of the platform economy have had profound effects on the banking sector. Over the past decade and a half, banking leaders have had to contend with rapidly evolving regulatory, technological, and competitive forces. The pace of technological change has been formidable with advances in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and blockchain technology. These forces have brought to the forefront new managerial imperatives that banking leaders have to make sense of as they strategise in light of these unfolding new realities. Banking in the Age of the Platform Economy explores the strategies that managers and leaders at banks and other financial institutions have adopted in response to the rise of the platform economy, the new forces of interdependence that it entails, and the risks/opportunities involved in cocreating value with external stakeholders. With its discussion of the strategies of interdependence and value cocreation that the top twenty banks in Europe adopted between 2008 and 2019, this book is essential reading for academics, banking and fintech professionals, and management consultants that advise banks and fintechs.
