Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from American Banking Practice For a long time past there has been an apparent need for a treatise on practical banking that would give a complete summary of the operation of a bank in such form as could be used as a text for teaching. While many excellent works have heretofore been written on both the theory and practice of banking, no one work has in itself adequately covered the subject, making necessary the use of several books in order to supply such information as the student requires. More over, no other work has attempted to weave into banking practice the Negotiable Instruments Law, so essential to bank operation. It has therefore been the aim to present a simple, yet comprehensive picture of the Work of a bank in every detail. The author wishes to make special acknowledgement to that splendid work recently issued by the National City Bank under the title Practical Bank Operation, from which many valuable suggestions have been Obtained as to the conduct of a large institution. Supplementing his own experiences and observations with such informa tion, he has attempted to present a composite picture of banking practice as it is now conducted under recognized American procedure. Credit is also due to the Irving National Bank of New York for the use of its forms. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Banks and Bankers A volume of this description, if correctly written in a readable style, must, I apprehend, be accept able to people of all ranks. The matters it relates to intimately concern all our great masses, agricul tural, manufacturing, and commercial; they are not only of the highest importance in their bearings and effects, but they have a particular interest even as subjects of abstract inquiry. If to these cousi derations we add another, - namely, the ignorance so generally and so strangely prevailing amongst us upon the question of money, banking, and cur reney, enough, perhaps, will have been premised to indicate that the work will be likely to find many readers, if justice be done to his undertaking by the author. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Theory and Practice of Banking, Vol. 2 The first volume of this Work was scarcely out of the press, when the crisis which every one conversant with monetary matters knew to be impending, burst with the suddenness and the fury of a tornado, producing a series of Banking catastrophes greater than had ever before happened in the City of London. All the circumstances attending it, however, and the course which the Government found necessary to pursue - for the third time to authorise a suspension of the Bank Act of 1844 - have amply confirmed the soundness and the truth of the doctrines set forth in this Work, The Author may, perhaps, be permitted to direct attention to Chapters XI. and XII. of this Volume, as having an especial interest at the present time. In Chapter NT. several Theories of Currency of great historical importance arc investigated, particularly that of John Law. Book Synopsis Bank Credit and Agriculture by : Ivan Wright
Download or read book Bank Credit and Agriculture written by Ivan Wright and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-02 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bank Credit and Agriculture: Under the National and Federal Reserve Banking Systems The object of this book is to outline the conditions of the bank credit situation in relation to American agriculture under the National and Federal Reserve banking systems. It seems necessary to set forth briefly in Part I some of the short-term credit needs of agriculture, without special regard to any particular banking system or institution, except for the purposes of explanation and illustration. Part II will consist of a brief history and analysis of the short-term agricultural credit conditions under the national banking system with special consideration of the legal and economic restrictions, and the seasonal movements of currency. Part III will take up an investigation of the Federal Reserve System in relation to short-term agricultural credit. Consideration will be given to the provisions for short-term agricultural credit, and the ways in which the system has functioned in relation to agriculture, and the livestock industry. It is not the purpose of this book to argue the case either for or against agriculture, but rather to analyze the needs for and conditions of short-term agricultural credit under the existing banking systems. This volume is a simplified and condensed presentation of the bank credit section of research investigations conducted by the author into the problems of agricultural finance. It is hoped that this book will meet a long-felt need for a thorough understanding of the relation between agriculture and the existing banking facilities. A large number of colleges and universities offer courses dealing with the problems of credit, banking and investments in relation to agriculture. These courses are variously named as "Rural credits," "Financing agriculture," and the like. This book covers the fundamentals and practices in financing agriculture in the United States and is intended to meet the urgent need of teachers and students of these problems. This book was released on 2017-10-11 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Practical Treatise on the Business of Banking and Commercial For some years I have been of the opinion that the condi tion of the commercial world would be much improved if business men had a more comprehensive knowledge of the fundamental principles of banking and mercantile credits. The banker is the criterion of business men. His methods and mode of doing business exemplify the very best business principles. That a knowledge of these methods and principles of business will be of benefit to every business man is self evident. Every man, no matter what his calling, should understand the business of banking. Such knowledge will not only enable him to obtain valuable assistance and many favors at the hands of his bankers, but the fundamental prin ciples of business as here taught will enable him to carry his own affairs to a higher degree of perfection-and profit. This book is as much for the merchant as for the banker. In the part of this book devoted to credits the business man will find a guide that will enable him to trust out his goods to those who will pay for them. It will teach those not engaged in business to conduct themselves in such a manner as to merit the confidence and thereby the credit favors of the busi ness community. Book Synopsis Bank Credit by : Chester Arthur Phillips
Download or read book Bank Credit written by Chester Arthur Phillips and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-16 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Bank Credit: A Study of the Principles and Factors Underlying Advances Made by Banks to Borrowers Bank credit, as the term is used in this volume, stands for credit extended by banks to borrowers. Bankers frequently use the term in the plural, meaning advances made to their borrowing customers. Whether the borrower withdraws the amount of the proceeds of his loan in cash at once or leaves it on deposit with the lending bank, the loan in either case constitutes credit extended. Just as a merchant extends credit to the customer who pays for his purchase at a later time, so the banker extends credit to the business man who borrows money. Whether the money is taken from the bank at the time the loan is made, the next day, or ten days later, makes no essential difference; bank credit may take even the form of an overdraft.
