Book Synopsis Isometries on Banach Spaces by : Richard J. Fleming
Download or read book Isometries on Banach Spaces written by Richard J. Fleming and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2002-12-23 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamental to the study of any mathematical structure is an understanding of its symmetries. In the class of Banach spaces, this leads naturally to a study of isometries-the linear transformations that preserve distances. In his foundational treatise, Banach showed that every linear isometry on the space of continuous functions on a compact metric
Book Synopsis Differentiability in Banach Spaces, Differential Forms and Applications by : Celso Melchiades Doria
Download or read book Differentiability in Banach Spaces, Differential Forms and Applications written by Celso Melchiades Doria and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-19 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is divided into two parts, the first one to study the theory of differentiable functions between Banach spaces and the second to study the differential form formalism and to address the Stokes' Theorem and its applications. Related to the first part, there is an introduction to the content of Linear Bounded Operators in Banach Spaces with classic examples of compact and Fredholm operators, this aiming to define the derivative of Fréchet and to give examples in Variational Calculus and to extend the results to Fredholm maps. The Inverse Function Theorem is explained in full details to help the reader to understand the proof details and its motivations. The inverse function theorem and applications make up this first part. The text contains an elementary approach to Vector Fields and Flows, including the Frobenius Theorem. The Differential Forms are introduced and applied to obtain the Stokes Theorem and to define De Rham cohomology groups. As an application, the final chapter contains an introduction to the Harmonic Functions and a geometric approach to Maxwell's equations of electromagnetism.
Book Synopsis Geometric Properties of Banach Spaces and Nonlinear Iterations by : Charles Chidume
Download or read book Geometric Properties of Banach Spaces and Nonlinear Iterations written by Charles Chidume and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-03-27 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contents of this monograph fall within the general area of nonlinear functional analysis and applications. We focus on an important topic within this area: geometric properties of Banach spaces and nonlinear iterations, a topic of intensive research e?orts, especially within the past 30 years, or so. In this theory, some geometric properties of Banach spaces play a crucial role. In the ?rst part of the monograph, we expose these geometric properties most of which are well known. As is well known, among all in?nite dim- sional Banach spaces, Hilbert spaces have the nicest geometric properties. The availability of the inner product, the fact that the proximity map or nearest point map of a real Hilbert space H onto a closed convex subset K of H is Lipschitzian with constant 1, and the following two identities 2 2 2 ||x+y|| =||x|| +2 x,y +||y|| , (?) 2 2 2 2 ||?x+(1??)y|| = ?||x|| +(1??)||y|| ??(1??)||x?y|| , (??) which hold for all x,y? H, are some of the geometric properties that char- terize inner product spaces and also make certain problems posed in Hilbert spaces more manageable than those in general Banach spaces. However, as has been rightly observed by M. Hazewinkel, “... many, and probably most, mathematical objects and models do not naturally live in Hilbert spaces”. Consequently, toextendsomeoftheHilbertspacetechniquestomoregeneral Banach spaces, analogues of the identities (?) and (??) have to be developed.
Book Synopsis Banach Spaces of Vector-Valued Functions by : Pilar Cembranos
Download or read book Banach Spaces of Vector-Valued Functions written by Pilar Cembranos and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "When do the Lebesgue-Bochner function spaces contain a copy or a complemented copy of any of the classical sequence spaces?" This problem and the analogous one for vector- valued continuous function spaces have attracted quite a lot of research activity in the last twenty-five years. The aim of this monograph is to give a detailed exposition of the answers to these questions, providing a unified and self-contained treatment. It presents a great number of results, methods and techniques, which are useful for any researcher in Banach spaces and, in general, in Functional Analysis. This book is written at a graduate student level, assuming the basics in Banach space theory.
Book Synopsis Spear Operators Between Banach Spaces by : Vladimir Kadets
Download or read book Spear Operators Between Banach Spaces written by Vladimir Kadets and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-04-16 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is devoted to the study of spear operators, that is, bounded linear operators G between Banach spaces X and Y satisfying that for every other bounded linear operator T:X → Y there exists a modulus-one scalar ω such that ǁ G+ωTǁ = 1 + ǁTǁ. This concept extends the properties of the identity operator in those Banach spaces having numerical index one. Many examples among classical spaces are provided, being one of them the Fourier transform on L1. The relationships with the Radon-Nikodým property, with Asplund spaces and with the duality, and some isometric and isomorphic consequences are provided. Finally, Lipschitz operators satisfying the Lipschitz version of the equation above are studied. The book could be of interest to young researchers and specialists in functional analysis, in particular to those interested in Banach spaces and their geometry. It is essentially self-contained and only basic knowledge of functional analysis is needed.

Book Synopsis Banach Spaces of Continuous Functions as Dual Spaces by : H. G. Dales
Download or read book Banach Spaces of Continuous Functions as Dual Spaces written by H. G. Dales and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-13 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a coherent account of the theory of Banach spaces and Banach lattices, using the spaces C_0(K) of continuous functions on a locally compact space K as the main example. The study of C_0(K) has been an important area of functional analysis for many years. It gives several new constructions, some involving Boolean rings, of this space as well as many results on the Stonean space of Boolean rings. The book also discusses when Banach spaces of continuous functions are dual spaces and when they are bidual spaces.

Book Synopsis Smooth Analysis in Banach Spaces by : Petr Hájek
Download or read book Smooth Analysis in Banach Spaces written by Petr Hájek and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2014-10-29 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the subject of higher smoothness in separable real Banach spaces. It brings together several angles of view on polynomials, both in finite and infinite setting. Also a rather thorough and systematic view of the more recent results, and the authors work is given. The book revolves around two main broad questions: What is the best smoothness of a given Banach space, and its structural consequences? How large is a supply of smooth functions in the sense of approximating continuous functions in the uniform topology, i.e. how does the Stone-Weierstrass theorem generalize into infinite dimension where measure and compactness are not available? The subject of infinite dimensional real higher smoothness is treated here for the first time in full detail, therefore this book may also serve as a reference book.

Book Synopsis Analysis in Banach Spaces by : Tuomas Hytönen
Download or read book Analysis in Banach Spaces written by Tuomas Hytönen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-02-14 with total page 630 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second volume of Analysis in Banach Spaces, Probabilistic Methods and Operator Theory, is the successor to Volume I, Martingales and Littlewood-Paley Theory. It presents a thorough study of the fundamental randomisation techniques and the operator-theoretic aspects of the theory. The first two chapters address the relevant classical background from the theory of Banach spaces, including notions like type, cotype, K-convexity and contraction principles. In turn, the next two chapters provide a detailed treatment of the theory of R-boundedness and Banach space valued square functions developed over the last 20 years. In the last chapter, this content is applied to develop the holomorphic functional calculus of sectorial and bi-sectorial operators in Banach spaces. Given its breadth of coverage, this book will be an invaluable reference to graduate students and researchers interested in functional analysis, harmonic analysis, spectral theory, stochastic analysis, and the operator-theoretic approach to deterministic and stochastic evolution equations.
