Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Great Canaanite God Baal is one of the most maligned deities in western religious history. Only Satan is considered more sinister and evil. This is sad because Baal is not evil at all but has been done an injustice and that is something I will be discussing at great length later in this book. Despite his falsely ascribed reputation in western religion, Baal is a mysterious God with qualities very similar to that of Yahweh of the Old Testament. In fact, they might be more alike than you can imagine. In general, the Canaanite pantheon is one of the most mysterious pantheons of the ancient Middle East. Because of the western taint, no one has truly discussed Baal in a way that does not reflect this bias. Sure, they have discussed him academically, but seldom spiritually without this weird negativity. Even other books that discuss Baal in magickal practice, do so with the inherent western bias that he is this shady, dark character with sinister motives. Yes, he like any other God and Goddess, has this side, but he was also prayed to and worshiped for good and benevolent reasons as well. He was, in fact, a savior-like figure. In this book, we will not only learn how to call upon this great God magickally, we will also dispel the myths surrounding him. As I do with all my books, I like to discuss history; I am an historian after all. We will cover: The history of Baal. His various aspects and forms. His worship and pervasiveness in ancient Biblical writings. A brief overview of the Baal Cycle. Why Baal is incorrectly equated with the Devil and evil in the West. Demonological References to Baal from the Most Obvious to the least and why they get it wrong. And finally, we will learn his great magick. He is very powerful, I must warn you. We have a lot to cover. Let us proceed.

Download or read book Hosea 2 written by Brad E. Kelle and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2005 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The complex and, at times, violent metaphorical discourse of Hosea 2 has elicited a variety of interpretive approaches. This study explores the text from the perspective of rhetorical criticism. The classical conception of rhetoric as the art of persuasion and the function of metaphor within persuasive discourses and social settings correlate with the oracular characteristics of Hosea 2 and illuminate its use of specific metaphors. A reading of Hosea 2 from this perspective proposes that the prophets of Israel may have functioned in a manner similar to the orators of ancient Greece, who delivered extended rhetorical discourses designed to discern meaning in contemporary events and to persuade audiences. This study offers a distinctively political reading of Hosea 2 that explores the text as a metaphorical and theological commentary on the political and religious dynamics in Israel at the close of the Syro-Ephraimitic War (731-730 BCE). Book Synopsis God's Enduring Love in the Book of Hosea by : Joy Philip Kakkanattu
Download or read book God's Enduring Love in the Book of Hosea written by Joy Philip Kakkanattu and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2006 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Joy Philip Kakkanattu provides an exegetical and theological analysis of an important and difficult text of the Old Testament through a synchronic and diachronic reading. Detailed critical notes, which discuss the textual difficulties, accompany the translation of the text from Hebrew. In the detailed exegesis, special attention is given to study of the key terms theologically significant in Hos 11:1-11 against the context of the whole book. The exegesis shows that in Hos 11:8-9 it is not the repentance of Yahweh that causes the withholding of His anger against Israel, but Yahweh's constancy in His election of Israel as His son. More than a change of heart, the decision not to execute the deserved judgement witnesses Yahweh's divine nature. Special attention is dedicated to the parent metaphor employed in Hos 11:1-11. It is concluded that more than expressing the Yahweh-Israel relationship as a father-son relationship, the text speaks of it in terms of parent-child relationship. In the diachronic analysis, the author deals with the origin and formation of Hos 11:1-11.

Book Synopsis The Origins and Role of Same-Sex Relations in Human Societies by : James Neill
Download or read book The Origins and Role of Same-Sex Relations in Human Societies written by James Neill and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2009-01-14 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This groundbreaking work draws on a vast range of research into human sexuality to demonstrate that homosexuality is not a phenomenon limited to a small minority of society, but is an aspect of a complex sexual harmony that the human race inherited from its animal ancestors. Through a survey of the patterns of sexual expression found among animals and among societies around the world, and an examination of the functional role homosexual behavior has played among animal species and human societies alike, the author arrives at some provocative conclusions: that a homosexual or bisexual phase is a normal part of sexual development, that same-sex relations play an important balancing role in regulating human reproduction, that many societies have institutionalized homosexual traditions in the past, and that the harsh condemnation of homosexuality in Western society is a relatively recent phenomenon, unique among world societies throughout history. This well researched and meticulously documented book is the first that integrates into a coherent picture the startling revelations about human sexuality coming from the recent work of sexual researchers, psychologists, anthropologists and historians. The view that emerges, of an ambisexual human species whose complex sexual harmony is being thwarted by the imposition of an artificial understanding of nature, represents a new way of thinking about sex.

Book Synopsis The History of Redemption by : Nancy Mahusay
Download or read book The History of Redemption written by Nancy Mahusay and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2007-07 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on a Bible Study course taught by Dr. Mahusay, this book gives the student an overview of the entire Old Testament. Written conversationally, it views the Scriptures of the Old Testament from the perspective of tracing God's promise of redemption from His first utterance of it in Eden, until the fulfillment of it in the Incarnation of the Messiah, Christ Jesus. The unity of the message of the Bible is clearly presented. After completing this study, the reader should have a grasp of the unified message of the Old Testament, and be able to place familiar events and quotations from the Old Testament in their proper context. The material is adapted to a twenty-four session intensive Bible Study with groups or individuals. With insight and skill, the author has created an actual compendium of the Old Testament which unifies and brings new clarity to this foundational part of Holy Scripture. This is accomplished by an extensive use of the Word and her deep grasp of its true meaning. - A. Dale Ihrie, Th. D., Ph. D. Dr. Nancy Mahusay is a clinical psychologist and Advanced Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. She and her psychiatrist husband practiced together for years, during which time she also conducted seminars in psychiatry and taught psychology and gerontology. After her husband's death in 1999, she returned to her first love, teaching Bible, which she continues to do. Dr. Mahusay lives in Southwest Florida, where her five children and ten grandchildren also live. She misses Vermont, where she lived until 1979.
Book Synopsis The Ten Commandments Vs Baal Worship by : Vilma Ramdhar
Download or read book The Ten Commandments Vs Baal Worship written by Vilma Ramdhar and published by . This book was released on 2017-03-13 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Working in the hospital and prison ministry, I had the opportunity to meet the country's most feared criminal. He was a cult leader with forty churches all around the country. A group of us would go to the prison every Wednesday and were allowed to have church for one hour. God used me to witness to this black, Jewish person who did not believe in Jesus but knew the Old Testament very well. He proclaimed to be their King. With the help of God and my faithful pastor who provided me with scriptures and a book entitles "Concerning Spiritual Gifts" I was able to lead him to the Lord. When he went to the hospital time after time, I was there to visit and pray for him. He experienced God's healing many times even when he was dying from a stroke, enlarged heart, diabetes, and hypertension. He had a miracle and baffled the doctors and nurses. Instead of serving 20 years, he was released after 6 years. There were other prisoners whom god has used me to pray for and they were released too. They all went to church with me. He was baptized 6 months later by the Bishop of the country. We discussed the Ten Commandments and he told me that there is no one who can keep them all. Being a spirit filled Christian on fire for the Lord, I told him, "With the help of the Holy Spirit we can keep them all." This is what inspired me to study and write this book. I come from a Muslim background, my husband from a Hindu background. I see the idols these religions worship which were made by man's hand. God made man in His image but these people made and continue to make their gods, which THEY turn back and worship (Read Isaiah 44). I tried for fifteen years to finish this book to expose the devil but I never did. I think this is the allotted time. Glory to God!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The heart of the biblical understanding of idolatry, argues Gregory Beale, is that we take on the characteristics of what we worship. Employing Isaiah 6 as his interpretive lens, Beale demonstrates that this understanding of idolatry permeates the whole canon, from Genesis to Revelation. Beale concludes with an application of the biblical notion of idolatry to the challenges of contemporary life.
Book Synopsis A Testimony of Jesus Christ - Volume 2 by : Anthony Charles Garland
Download or read book A Testimony of Jesus Christ - Volume 2 written by Anthony Charles Garland and published by SpiritAndTruth.org. This book was released on 2007 with total page 594 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Commentary on the Book of Revelation - Volume 2 The author presents a detailed study of the Book of Revelation emphasizing prophetic themes from the rest of the Bible which find their fulfillment in Revelation. To understand this controversial book, the author explores the many connections between the visions seen by the Apostle John and previous prophetic revelation given to Old Testament prophets such as Daniel, Ezekiel, and others. It is the author's conviction that an understanding of related passages elsewhere in the Bible is the most important key to unlocking the bewildering variety of interpretations which often accompany the study of the last book of the Bible. The commentary can be used in conjunction with a free companion internet course providing an additional 70 hours of audio instruction linked to almost 1,000 slides.
