Book excerpt: The Boeing 757/767 Study Guide is a compilation of notes taken primarily from flight manuals, but also includes elements taken from class notes, computer-based training, and operational experience. It is intended for use by initial qualification crewmembers, and also for systems review prior to recurrent training or check rides. The book is written in a way that organizes in one location all the buzz words, acronyms, and numbers the average pilot needs to know in order to get through qualification from an aircraft systems standpoint. The book covers the Boeing 767-300 and 757-200 series aircraft. The author is a retired Air Force Fighter pilot with flight experience in seven different aircraft types including the F-101, F-106 and F-15, and instructional experience in the T-33, F-101 and AT-38B aircraft. He also consulted on the acquisition and development of the F-22 and helped to write the F-22 operating manual. Transitioning to the airline world in 1990, he began writing and publishing transport category aircraft study materials and software guides. He holds type ratings in Boeing 727, 737, 757-767 and 777 aircraft as well as the Airbus A320 series aircraft. He has over 17,000 flight hours and has written seven titles which have sold a total of over 100,000 volumes. He retired with over 27 years work as an airline captain, certification as a flight engineer check airman, and management work in the area of managing operational specifications for a major airline.

Book Synopsis Advances in Simulation of Wing and Nacelle Stall by : Rolf Radespiel
Download or read book Advances in Simulation of Wing and Nacelle Stall written by Rolf Radespiel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book reports on advanced solutions to the problem of simulating wing and nacelle stall, as presented and discussed by internationally recognized researchers at the Closing Symposium of the DFG Research Unit FOR 1066. Reliable simulations of flow separation on airfoils, wings and powered engine nacelles at high Reynolds numbers represent great challenges in defining suitable mathematical models, computing numerically accurate solutions and providing comprehensive experimental data for the validation of numerical simulations. Additional problems arise from the need to consider airframe-engine interactions and inhomogeneous onset flow conditions, as real aircraft operate in atmospheric environments with often-large distortions. The findings of fundamental and applied research into these and other related issues are reported in detail in this book, which targets all readers, academics and professionals alike, interested in the development of advanced computational fluid dynamics modeling for the simulation of complex aircraft flows with flow separation.

Book Synopsis Straight and Level by : Stephen Holloway
Download or read book Straight and Level written by Stephen Holloway and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-01 with total page 595 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2003.Airline operating profits are well known to be volatile, and the global industry aggregate figures conceal wide differences in performance between carriers. The fundamental reasons for the poor performance of the industry as a whole were in the early 1990's that output ran too far ahead of demand, and the yield earned on output sold was insufficient to cover costs. In strategic context, this second edition uses a simple yet powerful model to explore linkages between the fundamentals of airline economics and the volatility of industry results at the operating level. Its five parts look in turn at strategic context, supply side, demand side, network management and a general conclusion.
Book Synopsis AIR CRASH INVESTIGATIONS, PILOT ERROR? The Crash of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 409 by : Hans Griffioen, editor
Download or read book AIR CRASH INVESTIGATIONS, PILOT ERROR? The Crash of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 409 written by Hans Griffioen, editor and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-04 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 25 January 2010, at 00:41:30 UTC, Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 409, a Boeing 737-800, on its way from Beirut to Addis Abeba, crashed just after take-off from Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut, Lebanon, into the Mediterranean Sea about 5 NM South West of Beirut International Airport. All 90 persons on board were killed in the accident. The investigation concluded that the probable causes of the accident were pilot errors due to loss of situational awareness. Ethiopian Airlines refutes this conclusion. Other factors that could have lead to probable causes are the increased workload and stress levels that have most likely led to the captain reaching a situation of loss of situational awareness similar to a subtle incapacitation and the F/O failure to recognize it or to intervene accordingly. Ethiopian Airlines refutes the investigation. According to the airline the final report was biased, lacking evidence, incomplete and did not present the full account of the accident.
