This paper with scholarly articulacy, plausible analysis and racy vitality attempts a modest exposition on how Ondo State Government can tap into the latent economic potentials of Ondo South via ending the perennial Sea Incursion in Ayetoro Community in Ondo State, transform Ayetoro into a Mega Atlantic City; A Business hub and a Residential Estate to enlarge the State's revenue base. The paper also delves into the need to harness the Ecotourism potential of Araromi Beach and translates from paper to reality the "Port of Ondo" Project. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2017 in the subject Sociology - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,0, Korea University, Seoul (Social Science), course: Sociology and Gloabal Governance, language: English, abstract: The development aid can be traced back to strategic and historical donor considerations. Aside from vastly expanding the arena of ideological rivalry during the cold war, the 1940s saw the beginning of the independence movement among former colonies. Independence encouraged new donors to build aid programmes as a continuation of their colonial obligations in the 1950s. In the 1960s, the principal donors agreed to set up the International Development Association (IDA) under the control of the World Bank, which was quickly established as financially the most significant source of concessional assistance. As the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is an institution of the UN system, which shares the same goal of raising living standards in their member countries and focusing on long-term economic development and poverty reduction. Development aid is, besides the colonial debt, often legitimized by the humanitarian obligation to help the people in need and thereby allows aid institutions to work almost unquestioningly and unproblematically in so called developing countries. The designation of ‘development’ as ‘good’ with the differentiation of the ‘bad colonialism’ seems to bear no resemblance to the perceived inequalities and exploitations of empire. But the ‘new imperialism’ can already be recognized in the designation ‘development’. The concept of ‘development’ conveys a hierarchy of the world through the juxtaposition of ‘developed’ and ‘underdeveloped’ and a power asymmetry through the unequal share of resources for development.

Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2005 in the subject Economics - Monetary theory and policy, grade: A= 1,0, Johns Hopkins University (School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS)), course: Theories and Models of Economic Development, 29 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Credit markets in developing countries differ substantially from their counterparts in OECD countries. Apart from the obvious differences in institutional development, technology and productivity which are both measures for and causes of underdevelopment, typ ical LDC credit markets have two main characteristics. Firstly, their financial systems are very small compared those in industrial economies. Secondly, developing countries are characterized by very big informal financial sectors that coexist with formal credit institutions. Interestingly, credit contracts differ highly between these two sectors and there seems to be only very limited inter-sector competition. The following paper ventures to explain the persistence of these peculiarities in rural credit markets1 using the model of asymmetric information in credit markets developed by Stiglitz and Weiss. By applying the model specifically to LDC credit markets I show that asymmetric information is among the major reasons for the underdevelopment of rural credit markets. Building on these findings I then explain how Microfinance Institutions (MFI) have lately been able to overcome some of the problems of imperfect information and strive in markets formerly dominated by informal money lenders. The first part of this paper provides an overview of the typical characteristics of credit markets in developing countries, concentrating on the limited size of LDC credit markets and on the apparent dichotomy between formal and informal finance sectors. Then, the importance of financial systems for economic development is briefly outlined in order to explain the relevance of the topic of this essay. The main part of the paper then pre

Book excerpt: Scientific Essay from the year 2017 in the subject Tourism, , language: English, abstract: Non-invasive utilization of wildlife is a major incentive for international tourism, but the increase in extraction of natural resources should show more respect to animal rights and welfare. In many destinations, a lion’s share of travel decisions is based on the possibility to see wild animals. Problems in erosion and pollution of environment are better understood than the relationships between visiting tourists and the local wildlife. United Nations declared 2017 “The International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development”, and the theme of annual World Environment Day (5 June) was dedicated to sustainable wildlife experiences by the theme “Connecting People to Nature”. In spite of unanimously accepted emphasis of respect of nature and decades-long education and studies, unpleasant fact is that there are far too many operations going on in so called ecotourism that do not respect nature or animal rights. The preset outlook presents an excerpt from recent studies and news items regarding the close relationships between international tourism industry and managing and conserving nature – as well as problems in the relationship – in the Year of Sustainable Tourism. The present overview briefly describes a few conflicts – and also successful examples – between wildlife and wildlife tourism, published recently, mainly in 2016 and 2017.

Book excerpt: Academic Paper from the year 2021 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, , language: English, abstract: The study examined the relationship between Management (classical) theories and organisational performance in Rivers State, Nigeria. The paper assessed the level of application of the scientific management, administrative and bureaucratic theories in Nigeria organizations with emphasis in Rivers State and their contributions to the organisational performance (productivity and growth) of the surveyed organisations. A sample of 378 staff based on Taro Yemane formula was investigated. Descriptive and inferential statistical tools were used to analyse the data generated in this study. Copies of a questionnaire were used to collect data from the respondents. Also, 316 copies of questionnaire were found valid and relevant for utilization in the study resulting to an overall usable response rate of 83.60 %. The study revealed that the application of the scientific management, administrative and bureaucratic theories in the management of various organizations contributed to low productivity, non-growth, productivity, slow pace of organizational growth and development in the organizations. The study concluded that given the present performances of Nigerian organizations, more needs to be done in the manner and way classical management theories were applied. Workers will be more motivated to perform in a conducive work environment if classical theories are applied with high track of efficiency while reducing unnecessary bureaucracy. It was recommended that, for organizations to achieve the objective of effective and efficient productivity, they must understand, accommodate, embrace and promote people who are dynamic and proactive in the organisation. Organizations should also review periodically their rules, regulations and manuals to ensure current trends in the business environment. Finally, organizations should allow for initiative, innovations and workers participation in decision making.

Book excerpt: Academic Paper from the year 2017 in the subject Geography / Earth Science - Physical Geography, Geomorphology, Environmental Studies, grade: A, University Of Abuja, course: Goegraphy and Environmental Management, language: English, abstract: This research is on victim’s perception of gully erosion in Edo State, Nigeria. The primary objective was to evaluate how victims understand causes, effects of gully erosion and effectiveness of erosion control measures in the study area. The research used questionnaire as a tool to examine victims perception of gully erosion in the area. Out of 480 questionnaire administered, 454 were returned and they were used for the analyses. Based on the findings of this study, victims of gully erosion in the area attributed causes to poor construction of culverts, deforestation and termination of drainages in sloppy topography. They agree that gully erosion in the area has resulted to losses of human lives, losses of buildings, displacement of people and losses of productive land. Victims also confirmed damages of infrastructures such as roads, bridges, buildings and altering of transportation corridors. Their responses revealed that gully erosion has resulted to decreased species richness, slowed succession and declining agricultural productivity which means less vegetation cover to soil, less return of organic matter and less biological and nutrient activity.

Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2012 in the subject Tourism, Griffith University, course: PhD, language: English, abstract: After the end of nearly three decades of civil war in 2009, Sri Lanka is experiencing a tourism boom with a record level of international tourist arrivals. The Sri Lankan government has now identified tourism as a main component in its post-war development strategy. Despite this new policy enthusiasm there is dearth of research on tourism in Sri Lanka. The purpose of this study, therefore, is to contribute to the literature on tourism in Sri Lanka in a number of ways. First, it provides a systematic historical narrative on Sri Lankan tourism and explains how Sri Lanka missed opportunities in the past. Second, it develops a Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model focusing on tourism and constructs a database with an emphasis on tourism. Third, it examines the economy-wide effects of the post-war tourism boom in Sri Lanka.

Book excerpt: Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2010 in the subject Environmental Sciences, grade: A, The University of Chicago, language: English, abstract: All projects must take place within an environment. The environment represents in this case, are the external conditions that affect the development of any project. Therefore these conditions may be economic, political, technological, or social. They make up the environment within which any project operates. A project will in one way or the other be impacted by these factors during the course of the project cycle (Fewings, 2005). These factors will either impact the project negatively or positively and in the long run affect the completion of the project. In real scenarios in project management, the external conditions are risk factors which affect the completion of the project. They act as risk factors because they will affect how the project is carried out. In the case that these factors are not mitigated then it is not possible to have a successful project (Halpin & Senior, 2010). People and communities also stay within the environment. Development initiatives when initiated have an effect on the people who live within a given environment. It is thus paramount these people are taken care of during the process of development in order to ensure minimal impact from these activities (Klinger & Susong, 2006). This has led to the development of concepts such as the environmental impact assessment reports that are carried out to provide information on the impact of a project on the environment. This is done so as to try and shield people from the effects that come from the continued development activities in the natural environment (Himes, 2008). The prep-planning phase to the completion phase all interact with the environment. The larger the project the higher the amount of activities involved within them. These activities if not controlled could damage the environment to a big extent. Construction projects in

Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Economics - Case Scenarios, University of Lusaka (University of Lusaka UNILUS), course: Economics and Finance, language: English, abstract: This research study has analyzed the effects of foreign aid in promoting economic growth in Zambia. The study used available data in Zambia from 1986 – 2018. The study adopted the ARDL model for investigating the short and long time relationship between foreign aid and Gross Domestic Product GDP. The hypothesis of foreign aid having an effect on economic growth was explored and examined. This study sought to archive the following objectives: To establish whether there is a connection between foreign aid and economic growth in Zambia and determine whether foreign aid significantly contributed to Zambia’s economic growth in the period under review. For policy implications, this study also analyzed the determinant of economic growth in Zambia over the same period. The results clearly revealed a positive relationship between foreign aid and Zambia’s economic growth in a given period that was under investigation. The findings in this study affirm that foreign aid may be important in promoting economic growth. This study also asserts that foreign aid may be effective in improving the quality and lives of people if used effectively. Thus, the outcome of this study recommends that foreign aid be directed towards the promotion of investment because its proper use can promote and boots the country’s economic growth. For policy implications, this study also found that independent variables such as Foreign Direct Investment FDI, Population Growth, Government Expenditure and Consumer Price Index as important and determinants of economic growth in Zambia over the same period. Thus, this study found that important drivers of economic growth included foreign aid inflow, population growth, investment whilst government expenditure and inflation affected GDP negatively, thus their impact was insignificant and negligible. This study furthers found efficiency and effectiveness of programs by government supported by foreign aid being effective to promote growth, hence, the reason why it is important for traditional donors to support government in many sectors.
