Book Synopsis Body Psychotherapy: History, Concepts, and Methods by : Michel Heller
Download or read book Body Psychotherapy: History, Concepts, and Methods written by Michel Heller and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2012-08-14 with total page 871 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From yoga to neuroscience, a tour of major ideas about the body and mind. Body psychotherapy, which examines the relationship of bodily and physical experiences to emotional and psychological experiences, seems at first glance to be a relatively new area and on the cutting edge of psychotherapeutic theory and practice. It is, but the major concepts of body/mind treatment are actually drawn from a wide range of historical material, material that spans centuries and continents. Here, in a massively comprehensive book, Michael Heller summarizes all the major concepts, thinkers, and movements whose work has led to the creation of the field we now know as body/mind psychotherapy. The book covers everything from Eastern and Western thought—beginning with yoga and Taosim and moving to Plato and Descartes. It also discusses major developments in biology—how organisms are defined—and neuroscience. This is truly a comprehensive reference for anyone interested in the origins of the idea that the mind and body are not separate and that both must be understood together in order to understand people and their behavior.

Book Synopsis Experiential Foundations of Rorschach's Test by : Ernest G. Schachtel
Download or read book Experiential Foundations of Rorschach's Test written by Ernest G. Schachtel and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-04-15 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Schachtel shared with his great contemporary David Rapaport the goal of scientifically reframing the psychoanalytic understanding of personality. Experiential Foundations of Rorschach's Test, first published in 1966, is in one sense Schachtel's extended dialogue with Rapaport (in the guise of Schachtel's interlocutor) about this ambitious task. In the course of his brilliant and lucid meditation on this topic, Schachtel attempted far more than the simple explication of particular test responses. His book contains, and should be read as, an entire theory of personality considered in terms of the ways in which one person may meaningfully and detectably differ from another.

The field is growing fast and this handbook reflects this interdisciplinary field of study by drawing contributions from economics, sociology, history, philosophy, cultural studies, anthropology, feminist studies, and related fields in order to serve as a seminal guide to the political, legal and social uses of ignorance in social and political life. Book Synopsis Forms of Intersubjectivity by : Beatrice Beebe
Download or read book Forms of Intersubjectivity written by Beatrice Beebe and published by Other Press, LLC. This book was released on 2020-09-15 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With new discussions by Theodore Jacobs and Regina Pally Adult psychoanalysis has approached the study of intersubjectivity by concentrating primarily on the verbal dialogue, an explicit mode of communication. Infant research, on the other hand, focuses on nonverbal communication and implicit modes of action sequences, operating largely out of awareness, such as interactions of gaze, facial expression, and body rhythms. This book proposes that an integration of these two approaches is essential to a deeper understanding of the therapeutic action. The authors use a dyadic systems model of self- and interactive regulation as a lens for comparing diverse theories of intersubjectivity, both in adults and infants. Building on the definition of intersubjectivity in infancy as correspondence and matching of expressions, the authors offer an expanded view of the presymbolic origins of intersubjectivity. They address the place of interactive regulation, problems with the concept of matching, the roles of self-regulation and of difference, and the balance of self- and interactive regulation. An adult treatment of early trauma is described through detailed clinical case material illustrating both the verbal narrative and the implicit "action dialogue" operating largely outside of awareness. This book includes new discussions by Theodore Jacobs, arguing that nonverbal communication is vitally important to psychoanalysis, and by Regina Pally, arguing that aspects of this book have parallels in neuroscience.
Book Synopsis Cognitive Hypnotherapy by : Assen Alladin
Download or read book Cognitive Hypnotherapy written by Assen Alladin and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-28 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is now in use worldwide, while hypnosis as a technique continues to attract serious interest from the professional community. Integrating the two, the field of cognitive hypnotherapy uses the natural trance states of clients to unlock unconscious thoughts and memory patterns that can generate and sustain problems. Cognitive hypnotherapists work within the client’s model of the world, so that changes are more likely to be subconsciously accepted and become permanent. This practical guide shows how cognitive hypnotherapy can be used to treat a range of emotional disorders including depression, sleep disorders, anxiety, eating disorders and PTSD.

Book Synopsis The Betrayal of the Body by : Alexander Lowen
Download or read book The Betrayal of the Body written by Alexander Lowen and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-07-01 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Betrayal of the Body is Alexander Lowen's pioneering study of the mind-body split. Lowen describes the way people deny the reality, needs, and feelings of their bodies. This denial leads to the development of the division between mind and body, creating an over-charged ego obsessed with thinking at the expense of feeling and being. This book illustrates the energetic factors behind the split, the factors that produce it, and the proven therapeutic techniques that are available to treat it. Lowen further explores the mind-body duality in the individual and its parallel duality and dysfunction in society between culture and nature, and between thinking and feeling.
Download or read book Narcissism written by Alexander Lowen and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-08-21 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A groundbreaking, “thoughtful and provocative” (Los Angeles Times) study of narcissism that will relieve hidden anxieties and heal the tension between mind, body, and feelings. Are you a narcissist? Do you interact with someone who is? Contrary to popular belief, narcissists do not love themselves or anyone else. They cannot accept their true selves, constructing instead fixed masks that hide emotional numbness. Influenced by forces in culture and predisposed by factors in the human personality, narcissists tend to be: • More concerned with how they appear than what they feel • Seductive and manipulative, striving for power and control • Egotists, focused on their own interests but lacking the true values of the self -- self-expression, self-possession, dignity, and integrity • Without a solid sense of self, which leads them to experience life as empty and meaningless In this groundbreaking study, Dr. Alexander Lowen uses his extensive clinical experience to demonstrate how narcissists can recover their suppressed feelings and regain their lost humanity. By the use of Bioenergetic Analysis, the psychotherapy created by Dr. Lowen, a new possibility of a fulfilling and authentic life is presented for people with narcissistic characteristics and for those who interact with them.
