Book Synopsis Human Factors in Intelligent Transportation Systems by : Woodrow Barfield
Download or read book Human Factors in Intelligent Transportation Systems written by Woodrow Barfield and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2014-01-14 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Program is a cooperative effort by government, private industry, and academia to apply advanced technology to the task of resolving the problems of surface transportation. The objective is to improve travel efficiency and mobility, enhance safety, conserve energy, provide economic benefits, and protect the environment. The current demand for mobility has exceeded the available capacity of the roadway system. Because the highway system cannot be expanded, except in minor ways, the available capacity must be used more efficiently to handle the increased demand. ITS applies advanced information processing, communication, sensing, and computer control technologies to the problems of surface transportation. Considerable research and development efforts will be required to produce these new technologies and to convert technologies developed in the defense and space programs to solve surface transportation problems. ITS has been subdivided into six interlocking technology areas. This book addresses human factors concerns for four of these areas: * Advanced Traveler Information Systems are a variety of systems that provide real time, in-vehicle information to drivers regarding navigation and route guidance, motorist services, roadway signing, and hazard warnings. * Advanced Vehicle Control Systems refer to systems that aid drivers in controlling their vehicle particularly in emergency situations and ultimately taking over some or all of the driving tasks. * Commercial Vehicle Operations address the application of ITS technologies to the special needs of commercial roadway vehicles including automated vehicle identification, location, weigh-in-motion, clearance sensing, and record keeping. * Advanced Traffic Management Systems monitor, control and manage traffic on streets and highways to reduce congestion using vehicle route diversion, automated signal timing, changeable message signs, and priority control systems. Two technical areas are not specifically addressed in individual chapters, but many aspects of them are covered in associated chapters: * Advanced Rural Transportation Systems include systems that apply ITS technologies to the special needs of rural systems and include emergency notification and response, vehicle location, and traveler information. * Advanced Public Transportation Systems enhance the effectiveness, attractiveness and economics of public transportation and include fleet management, automated fare collection, and real-time information systems.
Book Synopsis Illumination, Color and Imaging by : P. Bodrogi
Download or read book Illumination, Color and Imaging written by P. Bodrogi and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-07-23 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This much needed, comprehensive and modern reference on display technology, illumination sources and color imaging focuses on visual effects and how reproduced images are best matched to human visual features. As such, it teaches readers how to exploit the knowledge of human color information processing to design usable, ergonomic, and pleasing displays or visual environments. The contents describe design principles and methods to optimize self-luminous visual technologies for the human user, including modern still and motion image displays, and indoor light sources. Design principles and methods are derived from the knowledge of the human visual system, with a special emphasis on color vision, color cognition, color harmony, color preference and visually evoked emotions. The expert authors include the most important and latest applications of the design principles and methods, forming a comprehensive view of human color information processing from the receptors through the retina via high-level visual perception right up to the level of cognition, preference, harmony, as well as visually evoked emotions. This book is included in the Wiley SID Series.
Book Synopsis Automotive Product Development by : Vivek D. Bhise
Download or read book Automotive Product Development written by Vivek D. Bhise and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-05-08 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about how to develop future automotive products by applying the latest methodologies based on a systems engineering approach and by taking into account many issues facing the auto industry such as meeting government safety, emissions and fuel economy regulations, incorporating advances in new technology applications in structural materials, power trains, vehicle lighting systems, displays and telematics, and satisfying the very demanding customer. It is financially disastrous for any automotive company to create a vehicle that very few people want. To design an automotive product that will be successful in the marketplace requires carefully orchestrated teamwork of experts from many disciplines, substantial amount of resources, and application of proven techniques at the right time during the product development process. Automotive Product Development: A Systems Engineering Implementation is intended for company management personnel and graduate students in engineering, business management and other disciplines associated with the development of automotive and other complex products.

Book Synopsis Visual Optics of Head-up Displays (HUDs) in Automotive Applications by : Shigeru Okabayashi
Download or read book Visual Optics of Head-up Displays (HUDs) in Automotive Applications written by Shigeru Okabayashi and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 1996 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title examines head-up display technology (HUD) and its application in the automotive industry. With the recent trend toward higher-speed mobility, as typified by the plan in Japan to build a second Tomei expressway linking Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka, there is a need for more complex and accurate navigation or route guidance systems. In addition, older drivers, whose vision may be declining, must be able to obtain the necessary information for safe vehicle operation. The author demonstrates that HUD, originally developed for weapons targeting in fighter planes, is ideal for meeting these future automotive navigational and social needs. As HUDs become a standard automotive feature this work will be an important reference to this rapidly developing technology.
