Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Entrepreneurs play a central role in economic growth and development, but how they do so is the subject of considerable debate. This book explains that process through an historical case study of an automobile insurance entrepreneur, Samuel P. Black, Jr., and Erie Insurance, the company he helped build. It also recounts the largely untold history of American automobile insurance. One of this study's central themes is the role of innovation in the entrepreneurial process. The rise of Erie Insurance from a four-person enterprise in Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1925 to the fourteenth largest property-casualty insurer today was the result, in part, of Black's relentless push to innovate. His continual efforts to cut costs, develop new products, satisfy customers, increase sales, and improve operations, all contributed greatly to the company's growth. A second theme is the automobile's dramatic impact on modern America. Its takeover of mass transportation provided the basis for the development of the automobile insurance industry and created many of the opportunities that Black and Erie Insurance capitalized on. These themes combine in the history of Black and Erie Insurance to illuminate the dynamic process by which the cultural, social, economic, and technological environment creates opportunities that entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial firms exploit, and how entrepreneurial actions stimulate economic growth.

As far as the income potential is concern, it is higher than most other side gigs you will find. Just imagine this, you buy a 6 years old Toyota Camry with 87K miles for $4,500, you bring it home, clean it up, fix few minor scratches, wash it wax it, then put it up for sale on Craigslist for $7100. In the first three days you get a few calls, and after 4 test drives, you sell it for $6,600. Let's see how much you made from this sale. You paid $4,400 + you spend $350 on fixing minor issues, so your total cost was $4,750, but you sold it for $6,600, so your net profit from this sale is $6,600-$4,750 = $1,850 Not bad for few hours of work. You see if you buy the right type of cars and price them right, there is no reason you can't sell 2-3 cars a month and make a handsome extra income each month. I have a friend, who has a small insurance business. He has been selling cars on the side for last 25 years, and he told me just by selling 2-3 cars a month, he was able to pay for college for all his three kids. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Improve business efficiency, eliminate day-to-day mishaps, and prepare for the worst-with effective disaster contingency planning Working in lower Manhattan on September 11th, 2001, Donna Childs became keenly aware of the need for small businesses to develop disaster contingency plans and grateful that her own business had implemented such plans and would remain financially sound. Now, with the assistance of IT consultant Stefan Dietrich, she draws upon her unique experience to present proven guidelines for small and midsize businesses to effectively prepare for catastrophes in Contingency Planning and Disaster Recovery: A Small Business Guide. Childs and Dietrich take small business owners through every stage of disaster planning, from preparation to response to recovery. Specific issues addressed include: * What to do if the main office location is not accessible * Getting the business up and running again * Contacting third parties * Handling insurance claims * Adequate insurance for property, business interruption losses, and workers' compensation * Rebuilding an IT infrastructure Successful planning not only can limit the damage of an unforeseen disaster but also can minimize daily mishaps-such as the mistaken deletion of files-and increase a business's overall efficiency. Contingency Planning and Disaster Recovery is the only contingency guide that small business owners need to ensure their company's continued success.

Book Synopsis Creating the Nazi Marketplace by : S. Jonathan Wiesen
Download or read book Creating the Nazi Marketplace written by S. Jonathan Wiesen and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-11-22 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the Nazis came to power in 1933, they promised to build a vibrant consumer society. But they faced a dilemma. They recognized that consolidating support for the regime required providing Germans with the products they desired. At the same time, the Nazis worried about the degrading cultural effects of mass consumption and its association with 'Jewish' interests. This book examines how both the state and private companies sought to overcome this predicament. Drawing on a wide range of sources - advertisements, exhibition programs, films, consumer research and marketing publications - the book traces the ways National Socialists attempted to create their own distinctive world of buying and selling. At the same time, it shows how corporate leaders and everyday Germans navigated what S. Jonathan Wiesen calls 'the Nazi marketplace'. A groundbreaking work that combines cultural, intellectual and business history, Creating the Nazi Marketplace offers an innovative interpretation of commerce and ideology in the Third Reich.
