Book Synopsis Ministerial Advisers in Australia by : Yee-Fui Ng
Download or read book Ministerial Advisers in Australia written by Yee-Fui Ng and published by Holt Prize. This book was released on 2016 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From their origins in the shadows of Australian public administration, ministerial advisers have been increasingly thrust into the limelight through scandals that appear on the front page of the newspapers. This book traces the rise in the power and significance of Australian ministerial advisers. It shows the fundamental shift of the locus of power from the neutral public service to highly political and partisan ministerial advisers. The book demonstrates that the introduction of ministerial advisers into the structure of the Executive has led to the erosion of the Australian system of responsible government. This is caused by a failure in the political, legal and managerial accountability frameworks surrounding ministerial advisers.Ministerial Advisers in Australia is the first comprehensive study of the legal and political regulation of Australian ministerial advisers. This book features material from original interviews with Australian Ministers and Members of Parliament, as well as several former State Premiers.**Dr Yee-Fui Ng, Ministerial Advisers in Australia: The Modern Legal Context, was a finalists of the inaugural Holt Prize 2015.
Book Synopsis Delegated Legislation in Australia, 5th Edition by : DENNIS C & ARGUMENT PEARCE (STEPHEN.)
Download or read book Delegated Legislation in Australia, 5th Edition written by DENNIS C & ARGUMENT PEARCE (STEPHEN.) and published by . This book was released on 2017-08 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Delegated Legislation in Australia, 5th edition provides updated and detailed coverage of all aspects of subordinate legislation, and is an essential reference for legislators, public officials at all levels of government, judicial officers and lawyers. It is the latest addition to the LexisNexis Black and Silver series. Legislation made by various government and other bodies under the authority of an Act of Parliament far exceeds in volume the legislation made by Parliament in the form of statutes. Delegated Legislation in Australia includes a comprehensive overview of why and how delegated legislation is used to impose obligations on both citizens and business, and in what forms such legislation takes. Commentary is provided for each Australian jurisdiction as to the means used by Parliament to review the content of the legislation, and assess and compare the performance of each parliament. Updated material in this edition includes discussion of parliamentary committees, including the effect of the abolition of the Scrutiny of Legislation Committee in Queensland, and the effect of the operation of the new Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights. There is also updated discussion in relation to judicial review, including analysis of a number of new court decisions and the element of proportionality as a ground of review.

Book Synopsis Parliamentary Diplomacy in European and Global Governance by : Stelios Stavridis
Download or read book Parliamentary Diplomacy in European and Global Governance written by Stelios Stavridis and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2017-02-06 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Parliamentary Diplomacy in European and Global Governance, 27 experts from all over the world analyse the fast-expanding phenomenon of parliamentary diplomacy. Through a wealth of empirical case studies, the book demonstrates that parliamentarians and parliamentary assemblies have an increasingly important international role. The volume begins with parliamentary diplomacy in Europe, because the European Parliament is one of the strongest autonomous institutional actors in world politics. The study then examines parliamentary diplomacy in relations between Europe and third countries or regions (Mexico, Turkey, Russia, the Mediterranean), before turning attention to the rest of the world: North and South America, Asia, Africa and Australia. This pioneering volume confirms the worldwide nature and salience of parliamentary diplomacy in contemporary global politics.

Book Synopsis The Independence of East Timor by : Clinton Fernandes
Download or read book The Independence of East Timor written by Clinton Fernandes and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a history of the struggle for independence after East Timor was invaded by Indonesia in 1975. The occupation, which lasted 24 years, was immediately resisted through guerrilla warfare and clandestine resistance. A continuum of effort between the armed freedom fighters in the mountains, the resilience of urban supporters, and international activism and support eventually brought about liberation in September 1999. Given that the Timor rebels did not have a land border with a friendly state, had no external supplier of weapons and no liberated area in which to recover between guerrilla operations, their successful resistance is unique in the history of guerrilla warfare and independence struggles. Equally uncommon was an unexpected weapon in the struggle -- a remarkable display of strategic non-violent action. This is the first study to integrate all the major factors in East Timor's independence struggle. The multi-dimensional perspectives addressed in this volume include Indonesian, US and Australian diplomacy; Indonesian military operations and activities against the populace; East Timorese resistance at all social levels; human rights abuses; the issue of oil; and international diplomacy resulting from global solidarity activism.
