Download or read book Marija Terezija written by Miha Preinfalk and published by Založba ZRC. This book was released on 2018-09-01 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Monografija je napisana pretežno v slovenskem jeziku, medtem ko so prispevki tujih avtorjev v tujem jeziku (nemško, angleško, italijansko in hrvaško) z daljšim slovenskim povzetkom.

Book excerpt: A new eye-opener on how we can make better decisions—by the author of Gut Feelings In this age of big data we often trust that expert analysis—whether it’s about next year’s stock market or a person’s risk of getting cancer—is accurate. But, as risk expert Gerd Gigerenzer reveals in his latest book, Risk Savvy, most of us, including doctors, lawyers, and financial advisors, often misunderstand statistics, leaving us misinformed and vulnerable to exploitation. Yet there’s hope. In Risk Savvy, Gigerenzer gives us an essential guide to the science of good decision making, showing how ordinary people can make better decisions for their money, their health, and their families. Here, Gigerenzer delivers the surprising conclusion that the best results often come from considering less information and listening to your gut.

Book Synopsis The Mechanics of Internationalism by : Martin H. Geyer
Download or read book The Mechanics of Internationalism written by Martin H. Geyer and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays by American and European scholars traces the origins of modern internationalism and the emergence of global society in the nineteenth century. It offers a fresh approach to the study of international history by looking at the structural prerequisites of the thriving internationalism before the First World War. Thus it links political and social movements trying to reform society and politics by way of transnational co-operation with the process of internationalizing cultural, political, and economic practices. The volume is less concerned with classical diplomatic history than with the increased, yet ambivalent, transnational linking of societies. The subjects covered range from the creation of international standards, the search for a monarchical international, and the making of international women's organizations to the emergence of fashionable meeting places. The book provides a genuine historical perspective on present phenomena.
Book Synopsis Natural Particulars by : Anthony Grafton
Download or read book Natural Particulars written by Anthony Grafton and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently the history of science in early modern Europe has been both invigorated and obscured by divisions between scholars of different schools. One school tends to claim that rigorous textual analysis provides the key to the development of science, whereas others tend to focus on the social and cultural contexts within which disciplines grew. This volume challenges such divisions, suggesting that multiple historical approaches are both legitimate and mutually complementary."--

Download or read book Disgust written by Winfried Menninghaus and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Disgust (Ekel, dégoût) is a state of high alert. It acutely says "no" to a variety of phenomena that seemingly threaten the integrity of the self, if not its very existence. A counterpart to the feelings of appetite, desire, and love, it allows at the same time for an acting out of hidden impulses and libidinal drives. In Disgust, Winfried Menninghaus provides a comprehensive account of the significance of this forceful emotion in philosophy, aesthetics, literature, the arts, psychoanalysis, and theory of culture from the eighteenth century to the present. Topics addressed include the role of disgust as both a cognitive and moral organon in Kant and Nietzsche; the history of the imagination of the rotting corpse; the counter-cathexis of the disgusting in Romantic poetics and its modernist appeal ever since; the affinities of disgust and laughter and the analogies of vomiting and writing; the foundation of Freudian psychoanalysis in a theory of disgusting pleasures and practices; the association of disgusting "otherness" with truth and the trans-symbolic "real" in Bataille, Sartre, and Kristeva; Kafka's self-representation as an "Angel" of disgusting smells and acts, concealed in a writerly stance of uncompromising "purity"; and recent debates on "Abject Art."

Book Synopsis Modernity and Early Cultures by : Luis E. Carraza
Download or read book Modernity and Early Cultures written by Luis E. Carraza and published by Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the beginning of the 20th century, the discovery of early cultures exerted a formative influence on modern architecture. Discussions on early civilizations in the Middle East, South-East Asia, and the pre-Columbian cultures of North and South America as well as new perceptions of archaism and primitivism revolutionized the production of art and architecture. In this anthology, European and North and South American scholars from various fields address art and architectural theory to show the avant-garde's historical relation to archaeology and its influence on the development of Modernism. Contributors include Can Bilsel (San Diego), Luis E. Carranza (Rhode Island), Johannes Cramer (Berlin), Christian Freigang (Frankfurt), Maria P. Gindhart (Atlanta), Jorge F. Liernur (Buenos Aires), Anna Minta (Bern), and Bernd Nicolai (Bern).
