Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Voices of Wittgenstein brings together for the first time in both the original German and English translation over one hundred short essays in philosophical logic and the philosophy of mind of historical importance to understanding Wittgenstein's philosophical thought and development in the 1930s. It is the only substantial corpus of Wittgenstein's work that has remained relatively unknown and unavailable until now. Transcribed from the papers of Friedrich Waismann and dating from 1932-1935, the majority are highly important dictations by Wittgenstein to Waismann. The volume also includes texts of redrafted material by Waismann closely based on the dictations." --Book Jacket.

It goes into detail over the pros and cons of filming "on location" or in the studio, takes a look at the problems of historical and contemporary settings and clears up the linguistic muddle of names for particular jobs that has grown up as a result of different film production developments in Europe and America. This illustrated volume is a must for everyone involved in film and also for everyone interested in the art film." "Swiss designers Heidi and Toni Ludi have designed countless film sets since studying art in London and Munich, including such famous examples as The Magic Mountain, Edith's Diary, Wings of Desire, The Bear, Lindenstrasse and Die zweite Heimat. Both are actively committed to their profession; they pass their experience on to the younger generation in frequent lectures and seminars, in Toni Ludi's case since 1989 as professor at the Fachhochschule Rosenheim."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Book Synopsis Ancient Perspectives on Paul by : Tobias Nicklas
Download or read book Ancient Perspectives on Paul written by Tobias Nicklas and published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. This book was released on 2013-06-19 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the so-called "New perspective in Paul" has been in the focus of New Testament exegesis for more than 25 years now, ancient interpretations of Pauline texts and ideas have been neglected widely. The present volume aims to fill this gap. Its articles concentrate on three different foci of modern exegesis: interpretations of Paul's conversion, his ideas about the relation of "grace" and "works" and the fate of Israel. Several additional articles contrast these ancient perspectives with answers of modern exegesis.
Book Synopsis The Justice Motive in Everyday Life by : Michael Ross
Download or read book The Justice Motive in Everyday Life written by Michael Ross and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2002-02-11 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains essays in honour of Melvin J. Lerner, a pioneer in the psychological study of justice. The contributors to this volume are internationally renowned scholars from psychology, business, and law. They examine the role of justice motivation in a wide variety of contexts, including workplace violence, affirmative action programs, helping or harming innocent victims and how people react to their own fate. Contributors explore fundamental issues such as whether people's interest in justice is motivated by self-interest or a genuine concern for the welfare of others, when and why people feel a need to punish transgressors, how a concern for justice emerges during the development of societies and individuals, and the relation of justice motivation to moral motivation. How an understanding of justice motivation can contribute to the amelioration of major social problems is also examined.
Book Synopsis Qualitative Content Analysis in Practice by : Margrit Schreier
Download or read book Qualitative Content Analysis in Practice written by Margrit Schreier and published by SAGE. This book was released on 2012-02-21 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Qualitative content analysis is a powerful method for analyzing large amounts of qualitative data collected through interviews or focus groups. It is frequently employed by students, but introductory textbooks on content analysis have largely focused on the quantitative version of the method. In one of the first to focus on qualitative content analysis, Margrit Schreier takes students step-by step through: - creating a coding frame - segmenting the material - trying out the coding frame - evaluating the trial coding - carrying out the main coding - what comes after qualitative content analysis - making use of software when conducting qualitative content analysis. Each part of the process is described in detail and research examples are provided to illustrate each step. Frequently asked questions are answered, the most important points are summarized, and end of chapter questions provide an opportunity to revise these points. After reading the book, students are fully equiped to conduct their own qualitative content analysis. Designed for upper level undergraduate, MA, PhD students and researchers across the social sciences, this is essential reading for all those who want to use qualitative content analysis.
Book Synopsis Reading the Way to the Netherworld by : Ilinca Tanaseanu-Döbler
Download or read book Reading the Way to the Netherworld written by Ilinca Tanaseanu-Döbler and published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. This book was released on 2016-12-05 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume focuses on the various representations of the Beyond in later Antiquity, a period of intense interaction and competition between various religious traditions and ideals of education. The concepts and images clustering around the Beyond form a crucial focal point for understanding the dynamics of religion and education in later Antiquity. Although Christianity gradually supersedes the pagan traditions, the literary representations of the Beyond derived from classical literature and transmitted through the texts read at school show a remarkable persistence: they influence Christian late antique writers and are still alive in medieval literature of the East and West. A specifically Christian Beyond develops only gradually, and coexists subsequently with pagan ideas, which in turn vary according to the respective literary and philosophical contexts. Thus, the various conceptualisations of the great existential unknown, serves here as a point of reference for mirroring the changes and continuities in Imperial and Late Antique religion, education, and culture, and opening up further perspectives into the Medieval world.

Download or read book Fractured Biographies written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-08-09 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A physical chemist (Fritz Haber), a photographer (Josef Breitenbach), a cabaret artist (Georg Kreisler), two writers (Otto Alscher and Albin Stuebs), a pioneering scholar in Irish-German studies (John Hennig) and a Celtic philologist (Julius Pokorny) are the focus of this volume. What they have in common is a biography fractured by the Nazis’ rise to power in 1933. Six were forced into exile; the life of the seventh, the Romanian-German writer Otto Alscher, shows that even the biography of a Nazi sympathiser could be dislocated by the years of dictatorship. As the previously unpublished letters which are reproduced here show, Fritz Haber, a Nobel prize winner, spent ‘his last lonely months’ seeking a dignified way to leave the country to which he had once felt the deepest attachment. Although a prominent member of Germany’s academic élite, Julius Pokorny had to retire because of his Jewish ancestry in December 1935 and yet was allowed to continue publishing on ethnic themes until his exile in 1943. Albin Stuebs was forced to seek refuge in Prague and later England when his left-wing political convictions made him a certain target for the Nazis. Because of his marriage into a liberal Jewish family, John Hennig had to renounce all hope of an academic career in Nazi Germany and, after his exile to Ireland, struggled in straitened circumstances to support his family while at the same time developing into an unusually prolific scholar. Proof that exile may stimulate creative energy is provided by Josef Breitenbach, whose remarkable biography appears to show that loss and uprootedness may release otherwise undeveloped creative potential. Similarly, the flight of Georg Kreisler from Vienna in 1938 was the start of ‘a remarkable voyage of discovery’ which saw him grow into a major, if consistently undervalued figure in the world of post-war German cabaret.
Download or read book Paul and Mark written by Oda Wischmeyer and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2014-08-20 with total page 655 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hypothesis that the Gospel of Mark was heavily influenced by Pauline theology and/or epistles was widespread in the nineteenth century, but fell out of favour for much of the twentieth century. In the last twenty years or so, however, this view has begun to attract renewed support, especially in English language scholarship. This major and important collection of essays by an international team of scholars seeks to move the discussion forward in a number of significant ways – tracing the history of the hypothesis from the nineteenth century to the modern day, searching for historical connections between these two early Christians, analysing and comparing the theology and christology of the Pauline epistles and the Gospel of Mark, and assessing their reception in later Christian texts. This major volume will be welcomed by those who are interested in the possible influence of the apostle to the Gentiles on the earliest Gospel.
Download or read book Othello written by William Shakespeare and published by Reclam Verlag. This book was released on 2013-11-08 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
