Book Synopsis Statutory Audits in Europe by : Michael Kend
Download or read book Statutory Audits in Europe written by Michael Kend and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-10 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the aftermath of the Global Financial Crisis, corporate collapses, accounting scandals, and concerns around competition and auditor choice, the European Commission (EC) promoted the preparation of various reports on audit policy to support a harmonisation process of European auditing regulation. Consequently, the European Union (EU) Audit Regulation and Directive was implemented from 2016. This book provides a timely picture of the audit sector and how it responds to regulatory and technological challenges. It analyses the impact of EU reforms on audit practices by comparing the UK and Italy, which, representing two very different regulatory and cultural contexts, will offer insight into how the efforts at standardising audit regulation may lead to very different organisational firm responses within Europe. It addresses issues relating to public policy work and the concerns faced by the market for audit and assurance services, in promoting audit quality, better communication about the role of the auditor, capital market stability and confidence, and auditor independence. Moreover, it highlights what the future of auditing might look like in the EU particularly now that the UK has left, and how meeting public expectations will continue to be a struggle for the accounting profession given the many problems ahead. The book encourages a deeper awareness of the challenges faced by those that monitor and certify the financial statements of the world’s largest public companies and contributes to the general understanding of this controversial industry. It will serve as a useful guide to the recent EU audit reforms, not only for academics, and research students but also to regulators, policymakers, standard setters, industry professionals, and business executives worldwide.

Download or read book Ireland written by International Monetary Fund. Monetary and Capital Markets Department and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2014-05-27 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Detailed Assessment of Observance assessment of Ireland was carried out using the 2011 International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) Methodology for Assessing Implementation of the IOSCO Principles. The legal framework is robust and provides the Central Bank of Ireland with broad supervisory, investigative and enforcement powers. There are arrangements for on-site and off-site monitoring of regulated entities. Thematic reviews in selected areas have complemented such monitoring. The Central Bank and the Irish Stock Exchange have also developed sound systems for market surveillance. Certain aspects of the legal provisions regarding the governance structure of the Central Bank of Ireland raise concerns about its independence, although there were no indications of any interference with day-to-day operations. The regime that applies to entities that have issued their securities to the public where their securities are not admitted to trading on a regulated market needs to be strengthened. The Central Bank of Ireland lacks the power to appoint administrators to investments firms in the event of financial difficulties within the firm.

Book Synopsis Disruption in the Audit Market by : Krish Bhaskar
Download or read book Disruption in the Audit Market written by Krish Bhaskar and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-04-16 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Focussing on the dominance of the Big Four auditing firms – PwC, EY, Deloitte and KPMG – this concise volume provides an authoritative critical assessment of the state and future of the audit market, currently the subject of much debate and the focus of significant government enquiries. Drawing on extensive research and a vast collection of evidence from interviews with insiders, experts and users, it explores the key issues of audit quality, independence, choice and the growing expectation gap. Just as disruptive technologies are overturning other established sectors, this book explores their impact on accounting, financial reporting and auditing. It questions whether the Big Four-dominated audit market is prepared not only for the inevitable disruption of new technologies, but also the challenges of negative public perceptions, cynicism about regulation and demands for greater transparency. In the context of increasing high-profile corporate failures, this book provides a compelling scrutiny of the industry’s failings and present difficulties, and the impact of future disruption. At this crucial time, it will be of great interest to students, researchers and professionals in accounting and auditing, as well as policy makers and regulators.

Book Synopsis Complex Systems and Sustainability in the Global Auditing, Consulting, and Credit Rating Agency Industries by : Nwogugu, Michael I. C.
Download or read book Complex Systems and Sustainability in the Global Auditing, Consulting, and Credit Rating Agency Industries written by Nwogugu, Michael I. C. and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2021-05-07 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current and future issues in the global accounting/consulting, business opportunity, and credit rating agency (CRA) industries can have significant multiplier-effects on international trade, sustainable growth, and compliance (as physical phenomena). These three industries are among the most international and human-capital-intensive of all service industries. In these industries, analysis of business models and industry dynamics can provide insights about how human-computer interaction (HCI) and contract theory affect the evolution of financial market ecosystems and cross-border information flows, and how business models, work-allocation mechanisms, and liability allocation can evolve to manage change. An often-overlooked issue is that non-performing loans (NPLs), sustainability, and CRA efficiency can be significantly affected by business processes, corporate strategy, and HCI in industry ecosystems, multinational corporations (MNCs), and economic systems. Complex Systems and Sustainability in the Global Auditing, Consulting, and Credit Rating Agency Industries compares these three industries and introduces theories of public policy and “inter-business” processes. The book links industry structure, complex systems (including networks), behavioral game theory, structural changes, and antitrust problems to sustainability and the efficiency of pollution-remediation systems. The book introduces new “informal algorithms” and business/resource-allocation models that solve social-choice problems, and also contravene “impossibility theorems” that are at the core of modern computer science and mechanism design. This book is essential for professors and masters/PhD-level students and employees (in industry, financial services, research institutes, consulting firms, and government agencies) who are interested in industrial mathematics and theoretical computer science.
Download or read book Audit Quality written by Jonas Tritschler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-31 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arising from the author’s experience as a practicing CPA, this book is quite different from other research in this field, as it confronts the subject of audit quality from a pragmatic perspective. The first goal of Jonas Tritschler is to develop an audit quality metric on national audit firm level. Financial reporting errors, as detected by the German enforcement institutions during examinations, which subsequently are published in the German Federal Gazette by the involved companies, are the data basis for this measurement. Using the developed audit quality metric, the second goal of this study is to analyze audit quality differences of selected audit firms by comparing their deployed audit input factors such as employee’s competence (ratio of certified professionals to total audit staff), experience of employees (average tenure of employees in years) and client-specific experience (client fluctuation rate). Results indicate a correlation between audit quality according to the developed metric and the operationalized audit input factors mentioned above.

Book excerpt: Theoretical and empirical analyses of whether open innovations in international development instrumentally advantages poor and marginalized populations. Over the last ten years, "open" innovations--the sharing of information without access restrictions or cost--have emerged within international development. But do these practices instrumentally advantage poor and marginalized populations? This book examines whether, for whom, and under what circumstances the free, networked, public sharing of information and communication resources contributes (or not) towards a process of positive social transformation. The contributors offer both theoretical and empirical analyses that cover a broad range of applications, emphasizing the underlying aspects of open innovations that are shared across contexts and domains.
