Book excerpt: While there is growing evidence of the importance of marine ecosystems for our societies, evidence shows also that pressures from human activities on these ecosystems are increasing, putting the health of marine ecosystems at stake worldwide. Hence, Blue Economy is becoming an important component of future socio-economic development strategies (e.g. this is called Blue Growth in Europe), that eventually can result in increasing pressures at sea, and despite the current regulatory framework (in particular with the Oceans Act, in USA or Canada, and the Marine Strategy Framework Directive, in Europe), it is likely that this situation will continue in the future. Ensuring all those connected to the sea, directly or indirectly, gain a better understanding of the importance of the seas, the human-sea interactions and opportunities to act better and reduce impacts from human pressures, is central to Ocean Literacy (OL). Receiving increasing attention in Europe and USA, OL is a challenge for all parts of society: educators & trainers, children and professionals, civil society and scientists, consumers and policy/decision makers. It is seen as part of the package of solutions that will lead to a change in behavior and practice, thus reducing impacts and resulting in healthier marine ecosystems, whilst allowing development opportunities offered by seas are seized in a sustainable manner. This Research Topic focuses on the issues and options for effective OL worldwide. It discusses: (1) existing experiences in OL (formal and informal education for children, training for professionals, tools for raising awareness of consumers - and of investors in the marine sectors...) and their effectiveness (from understanding better to acting differently); (2) the role OL could play (in interaction with innovation, regulation, economic incentive, social norms...) to support human capital development as key component of sustainable growth; and (3) pre-conditions for effective OL for different sectors and target groups. Questions relevant to OL include: Which knowledge - produced by whom - to share and how? Who to target - and how to effectively reach those targeted? How to design OL initiatives - including by mobilizing those targeted (via living lab approaches e.g.) - to ensure effective OL and pave the way for behavior change? What are the knowledge gaps that limit our capacity to design effective OL? As scientists, it is likely you have many more questions to offer and discuss.

This research, aims at examining environmental approaches of Iran-Ahvaz elementary school teachers, in order to meet sustainable development goals. In academic year of 2011-2012, 346 elementary school teachers in Ahvaz took part in this research, answering to a questionnaire comprising of 20 questions. These questions were set to review four sub-factor including The Need for Education about Environmental Problems; The Importance of Fieldwork and Activities for Environmental Education; The Environmental Contamination and the Need for Conservation, and also The Environmental Protection Action measures on the basis of gender, education level, teaching experience and teachers' residential background.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive survey and analysis of teachers’ attitude towards environment and its related issues. The study of environment has become much more relevant today, than it was ever before. It is now that man has realized his mistakes and started thinking about Nature's protection and preservation. The teacher plays an important role in teaching learning process and in turn the child is influenced by his teaching to meet the social and physical aspects of the environment. Teachers can help the students to form a healthy constructive attitude for environment. Once, this healthy constructive attitude for the nature is formed the child will become a friend of the nature through out life. In the light of this, the entire matter is organized into five chapters. The first chapter is all about current environmental issues and constitutional provisions regarding environment, environmental education in the school curriculum and role of school teachers. The second chapter describes the studies related to environment and teachers’ attitude towards it. The third chapter is methodology adopted to find out the teachers’ attitude towards environment and its related issues. The fourth chapter is related to detailed analysis and interpretation of teachers’ attitude towards environment with reference to locale, gender and medium of instruction. The fifth chapter focuses on implications and recommendations on the basis of the finding of the results. The author believe that this book will prove to be useful to students, research scholars and the teachers who seems to be interested in the current environmental issues and the attitude of teachers towards environment. The author is grateful to all the authors, editors and their publishers whose publication he has made use of in preparing this book. I hope that readers will find this book useful. I will be looking forward for feedback from them. Dr. Syed Hasan Qasim

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "India is grappling with serious environmental issues that have been largely sparked by its galloping economy. As a measure of its seriousness to reduce the environmental impacts it has spearheaded numerous policy initiatives. One of the major thrusts of the proposed initiatives to curb environmental degradation has been to create an informed and well-educated citizenry. The federal mandates have triggered new curriculum policies and the compulsory teaching of environmental and sustainability education at all levels in all education institutions. This volume examines the policy practice conundrum. It looks at how national and international policy reforms reach practitioners – in this case teacher educators. Furthermore, it unravels how teacher educators understand environmental education, the ways in which they negotiate its demands on their busy schedules, what helps them in determining relevant issues within this and finally how they implement these policies in their everyday practices. It is evident from this book that while there have been some really well meaning development of policies, their impact on teacher educators’ practice, and therefore student teachers’ learning about Environmental Education is limited. The study showed that while these teacher educators had a clear understanding of the environment and saw the need/importance of incorporating Environmental Education in their daily practices they had very little scope to do so. There were numerous factors that constrained implementation. The book provides inputs on global policy practice gaps. It offers valuable insights to a global audience grappling with understanding the ways in which environmental education policies are put into practice in emerging economies like India. The final argument is thesis that while policy reforms are a step in the right direction they need to be backed up with strong implementation systems in order to be successful."“div>
