Book excerpt: Os solos sob Cerrado tem sido intensivamente incorporados ao processo produtivo agricola, mas sao escassos estudos de qualidade do solo nesse ambiente. O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar alteracoes em atributos fisicos, quimicos e bioquimicos indicadores da qualidade do solo e no estoque de carbono, em decorrencia da adocao de sistemas de manejo em relacao ao cerrado nativo, e selecionar os atributos com melhor performace em indicar tais alteracoes. Foram coletadas amostras nas camadas de 0-10, 10-20 e 20-40 cm, em latossolo vermelho-escuro, nos municipios de Morrinhos e Caldas Novas-GO. Foram avaliados: densidade do solo, porosidade, condutividade hidraulica do solo saturado, resistencia a penetracao, estabilidde de agregados, indice de floculacao, carbono organico total, expresso com base na massa total de solo (CO) e no conteudo de argila + silte (COa, s), carbono da biomassa microbiana(Cmic), atividade microbiana e estoque de carbono. Os sistemas de manejo consistiram de : (1) cerrado nativo; (2) pastagem; (3) plantio direto irrigado; (4) plantio direto irrigado com historico de gradagem superficial; (5) plantio direto de sequeiro; (6) plantio convencional irrigado; (7) plantio convencional irrigado recente apos pastagem; (8) plantio convencional de sequeiro. Os sistemas plantio direto irrigado, pastagem e plantio convencional recente apos pastagem nao alteraram os atributos fisicos em relacao ao cerrado nativo, exceto a resistencia a penetracao no sistema pastagem. Os sistemas convencionais de longa duracao reduziram a estabilidade dos agregados e o COa, s, em relacao ao cerrado. Todos os sistemas reduziram o Cmic. Nao houve diferenca significativa no estoque de carbono dos sistemas avaliados em relacao a situacao de equilibrio. O diametro medio geometrico, a porcentagem de agregados> 2 mm, o COa, s, e o Cmic, por apresentarem boa performance em indicar alteracoes, e o CO, pela correlacao com os indices de estabilidade de agregados (r>0,94**), sao sugeridos como componentes potenciais de um indice de qualidade do solo a ser desenvolvido para a regiao.
