Book Synopsis Technical and Functional Specifications for Border Monitoring Equipment by : International Atomic Energy Agency
Download or read book Technical and Functional Specifications for Border Monitoring Equipment written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by IAEA. This book was released on 2006 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Illicit trafficking of nuclear and other radioactive material has been an issue of concern since the first seizures in the early 1990s. By the end of 2004, IAEA member states had confirmed 540 cases with another 500 unconfirmed. This publication contains a set of technical specifications that can be used in the design testing, qualifying and purchasing of border radiation monitoring equipment, drawing on work undertaken through an IAEA co-ordinated research project as well as relevant national and international standards.
Book Synopsis Principles of Nuclear Radiation Detection by : Geoffrey G. Eichholz
Download or read book Principles of Nuclear Radiation Detection written by Geoffrey G. Eichholz and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended for senior undergraduate and beginning graduate students in physics, nuclear engineering, health physics and nuclear medicine, and for specialized training courses for radiation protection personnel and environmental safety engineers. To keep the size of the book manageable, material has been selected to stress those detectors that are in widespread use. Attempts have also been made to emphasize alternatives available in approaching various measurement problems and to present the criteria by which a choice among these alternatives may be made.

Book Synopsis Radiation Monitoring and Dose Estimation of the Fukushima Nuclear Accident by : Sentaro Takahashi
Download or read book Radiation Monitoring and Dose Estimation of the Fukushima Nuclear Accident written by Sentaro Takahashi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-02-07 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides comprehensive research findings related to the environmental monitoring of radiation, levels of radioactive nuclides in various environments and dose estimation in residents after the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident caused severe environmental contamination with radioactive nuclides. At the beginning of the book, a technical review written by a leading researcher of nuclear reactor technology explains what happened at the power plant. The review is followed by a commentary from a former member of the International Commission on Radiological Protection, providing the reader with easily understandable information about the concept of radiation dosage. In the main part of the book, a series of scientific reports presents valuable data on the radiation surveys of the environment, environmental radioactivity, transfer models and parameters of radioactive nuclides and dose assessment among residents. These reports present a wide range of findings from the research carried out in a variety of activities by large governmental organizations as well as by small private groups and individuals. The reader thus will find a large collection of valuable and interesting data related to the environmental contamination by radioactive nuclides after the Fukushima accident. Although earlier reports on this issue have been made public, this book is the only publication to fully depict the actual situation by providing comprehensive data obtained by diverse organizations and individuals.

Book Synopsis Long-Term Health Monitoring of Populations Following a Nuclear or Radiological Incident in the United States by : National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
Download or read book Long-Term Health Monitoring of Populations Following a Nuclear or Radiological Incident in the United States written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2019-08-30 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accidents and terrorist attacks that lead to the release of radioactive materials can cause deaths, injuries, and a range of psychosocial effects in the surrounding community and team of emergency responders. In the United States, federal, state, and local agencies respond with the necessary resources to address the consequences of nuclear and radiological incidents and monitor the affected population. Following the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident and the 2017 Gotham Shield National Level Exercise, the CDC recognized an opportunity to improve their practices by establishing a more efficient and timely health effect surveillance system before another incident occurs. On March 12-13th, 2019, the National Academies convened a workshop to discuss the process for preparing a radiation registry for monitoring long-term health effects of populations affected by a nuclear or radiological incident. Participants assessed existing information, useful practices, and tools for planning a radiation registry that will enhance incident monitoring and response methods. This publication summarizes the discussions and presentations from the workshop.
