This book was released on 1997 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examines the mechanisms of natural riverine sediment production in the Northern River Basins Study area, together with the routine data for suspended sediment in the area's rivers, as background for the examination of sediment-associated contaminants. Topics examined include: the causative mechanisms and boundary conditions affecting the sediment regime, including area topography, geology, and hydrology; availability and adequacy of data on suspended sediments in the area; time trends of fluvial suspended sediment dynamics on a seasonal (open water and ice regime) and annual basis, over the long term, and in critical events; sediment sources, pathways, and fates, and sediment dynamics at basin-wide, reach, and site levels; sediment quality, including sediment-associated characteristics of pulp mill effluents and sediment-contaminant relationships; and implications for sediment-associated contaminants. Recommendations are made for monitoring and assessment of the sediment component of the area's ecosystem.
Book Synopsis Rapid Evaluation of Sediment Budgets by : Leslie M. Reid
Download or read book Rapid Evaluation of Sediment Budgets written by Leslie M. Reid and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many land-management decisions would be aided by an understanding of the current sediment production and transport regime in a watershed and of the likely effects of planned land use on that regime. Sediment budgeting can provide this information quickly and at low cost if reconnaissance techniques are used to evaluate the budget. Efficient budget construction incorporates seven steps: careful definition of the problem to be addressed; collection of background information; subdivision of the project area into uniform sub-areas; interpretation of aerial photographs; fieldwork; analysis; and checking of results. Methods used in field-work and analysis must be selected according to the types of hillslope and channel processes active, the goals of the analysis, and the level of precision required. Methods for evaluating erosion and sediment transport rates are described, and four examples are given to demonstrate budget applications and construction.
Book Synopsis Impacts of Flow Regulation on the Aquatic Ecosystem of the Peace and Slave Rivers by : Terry Donald Prowse
Download or read book Impacts of Flow Regulation on the Aquatic Ecosystem of the Peace and Slave Rivers written by Terry Donald Prowse and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NTBS was designed to address the ecological concerns about pulp mill expansion, and to increase scientific knowledge about environmental conditions [ecology, ecosystem sustainability, water pollution and control, habitat, effect on fish and fishing, etc.] in the major river systems of the north. The study's objectives were to gather and interpret sound scientific information about the basins, develop appropriate recommendations for basin management, and communicate effectively with the public. The government response report confirms the governments' commitment to ecosystem sustainability and to pollution control in northern rivers. First Nations and Metis aboriginal [native] peoples contributed significantly to the NRBS.
Book Synopsis Sediment Transport by : Silvia Susana Ginsberg
Download or read book Sediment Transport written by Silvia Susana Ginsberg and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2011-04-26 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sediment transport is a book that covers a wide variety of subject matters. It combines the personal and professional experience of the authors on solid particles transport and related problems, whose expertise is focused in aqueous systems and in laboratory flumes. This includes a series of chapters on hydrodynamics and their relationship with sediment transport and morphological development. The different contributions deal with issues such as the sediment transport modeling; sediment dynamics in stream confluence or river diversion, in meandering channels, at interconnected tidal channels system; changes in sediment transport under fine materials, cohesive materials and ice cover; environmental remediation of contaminated fine sediments. This is an invaluable interdisciplinary textbook and an important contribution to the sediment transport field. I strongly recommend this textbook to those in charge of conducting research on engineering issues or wishing to deal with equally important scientific problems.

Book Synopsis Fluvial Sediment Transport by : IAEA.
Download or read book Fluvial Sediment Transport written by IAEA. and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sediment transport data are often used for the evaluation of land surface erosion, reservoir sedimentation, ecological habitat quality and coastal sediment budgets. Sediment transport by rivers is usually considered to occur in two major ways: (1) in the flow as a suspended load and (2) along the bed as a bed load. This publication provides guidance on selected techniques for the measurement of particles moving in both modes in the fluvial environment. The relative importance of the transport mode is variable and depends on the hydraulic and sedimentary conditions. The potential user is direct.
