Book excerpt: Excerpt from Rome's Responsibility for the Assassination of Abraham Lincoln Every Patriotic lecturer should be prepared to fur nish it to auv with whom he may come in contact who may desire, or can be prevailed upon to read it. Its price puts it within the reach of all; and it should be circulated by the millions throughout the length and breadth of the land. The suggestions which I have indulged in at its close are intended to be tentative rather than arbitrary. They, of course, express my own conclusions in re gard to what will be found necessary to break, for good and all, the power of the Hierarchy. Yet, I do not de sire to be dictatorial. I simply invite for them a careful, unbiased, consideration. It will be for the American people in the exercise of their collective wisdom to determine upon the best course of action. Something must be done; and they will have to deter mine as to the best method of doing that something. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Surratt Chapter 12 349 Summing it all up: Two and Two Introduction In all the bloody history of the Papacy, perhaps in no one man, as in Abraham Lincoln, was there concentrated such a multitude of reasons for his annihilation by that system. In all the history of the political assassination plots by the enemies of freedom, which for cold calculation, malicious methods, relentless pursuit, subtle cunning, and cowardly execution, nothing can exceed the cruel murder of this greatest of all Americans-for President Lincoln was the living, breathing type in which was fulfilled the triumph of the New Concept of Popular Government, the central postulate of which is, the consent of the governed. It was the life of Abraham Lincoln, which placed this form of government forever outside an "experiment" where its enemies persisted in endeavoring to keep it. That a barefoot, nameless boy on poverty's path could, by his own efforts, reach the highest office in the gift of the American people, gave the lie to the "Divine Right" croakers, and merited their most unceasing hatred. Barring the martyrdoms of Jesus Christ and Joan D'Arc, the methods used in Abraham Lincoln's assassination will stand preeminent in point of malice and cruelty, and, strange as it may seem, the same diabolical cunning which nerved the hand of the assassin has pursued Lincoln beyond the grave, and has been largely successful in hiding from the public all details of his physical destruction, a crime, in the eyes of the writer, which almost outstrips the first, for by this conspiracy of silence on his death, the youth of America are being deprived of the knowledge of the details of the greatest tragedy in their country's history. This appalling fact has been the one big urge which inspired the writing of this book, the contents of which represent only a part of the result of leisure hours spent in public and private libraries in the various cities, covering a period of the past seven years-gathering a fact here and one there, from books, magazines, newspapers and court records, filing them away, and finally condensing the salient points between the covers which you now hold in your hand. I feel safe in stating that nowhere else can be found in one book the connected presentation of the story leading up to the death of Abraham Lincoln, which was instigated by the "Black" pope, the General of the Jesuit Order, camouflaged by the "White" pope, Pius IXth, aided, abetted and financed by other "Divine Righters" of Europe, and finally consummated by the Roman Hierarchy and their paid agents in this country and French Canada on "Good Friday" night, April 14th, 1865, at Ford's Theatre, Washington, D.C. I am convinced that if this knowledge can be given adequate distribution and placed in possession of the boys and girls of the public elementary schools, for whom it is especially designed to reach, that the wicked boast of the Jesuits and their lay agents, the Knights of Columbus, to "MAKE AMERICA CATHOLIC" can never be accomplished. THE GREAT SPIRIT OF THE MARTYRED LINCOLN WILL RISE UP AND DEFEAT HIS SLAYERS AND THEIR SUCCESSORS!
Book Synopsis The Life and Writings of Abraham Lincoln by : Abraham Lincoln
Download or read book The Life and Writings of Abraham Lincoln written by Abraham Lincoln and published by Modern Library. This book was released on 2012-06-13 with total page 988 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abraham Lincoln, the greatest of all American presidents, left us a vast legacy of writings, some of which are among the most famous in our history. Lincoln was a marvelous writer—from the humblest letter to his great speeches, including his inaugural addresses, the Emancipation Proclamation, and the Gettysburg Address. His sentences were so memorably crafted that many resonate across the years. "Fourscore and seven years ago," begins the Gettysburg Address, "our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal." In 1940, the prolific author and historian Philip Van Doren Stern produced this volume as a guide to Lincoln's life through his writings. Stern's "Life of Abraham Lincoln" is a full biography of the man and includes a detailed chronology. Stern has collected all the essential texts of Lincoln's public life, from his first public address—a stump speech in New Salem, Illinois, in 1832 for an election he went on to lose—to his last piece of public writing, a pass to a congressman who was to visit the president the day after Lincoln went to Ford's Theater on April 14, 1865. Some 275 such documents are collected and placed in their historical context. Together with the "Life" and the Introduction, "Lincoln in His Writings," by noted historian Allan Nevins, they give a full and vivid picture of Abraham Lincoln.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Assassination of Lincoln When it was known in February, 1861, that a conspiracy to assassinate the president-elect on his way to the capital, had been discovered and thwarted, the peril of the nation was the thought uppermost in all minds. When on the 14th of April, I 865, the news flashed over the land, that conspiracy had compassed the death of Abraham Lincoln, it was grief for the man that filled all hearts, for in those four intervening years his countrymen had learned to know, to love, and to trust him. Book Synopsis Abraham Lincoln and the Structure of Reason by : David Hirsch
Download or read book Abraham Lincoln and the Structure of Reason written by David Hirsch and published by Savas Beatie. This book was released on 2010-11-19 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The secrets of one of history’s greatest orators are revealed in “one of the most stunningly original works on Abraham Lincoln to appear in years” (John Stauffer, professor of English and history, Harvard University). For more than 150 years, historians have speculated about what made Abraham Lincoln truly great. How did Lincoln create his compelling arguments, his convincing oratory, and his unforgettable writing? Some point to Lincoln’s study of grammar, literature, and poetry. Others believe it was the deep national crisis that gave import to his words. Most agree that he honed his persuasive technique in his work as an Illinois attorney. Here, the authors argue that it was Lincoln’s in-depth study of geometry that made the president’s verbal structure so effective. In fact, as the authors demonstrate, Lincoln embedded the ancient structure of geometric proof into the Gettysburg Address, the Cooper Union speech, the first and second inaugurals, his legal practice, and much of his substantive post-1853 communication. Also included are Lincoln’s preparatory notes and drafts of some of his most famous speeches as well as his revisions and personal thoughts on public speaking and grammar. With in-depth research and provocative insight, Abraham Lincoln and the Structure of Reason “offers a whole new angle on Lincoln’s brilliance” (James M. Cornelius, Curator, Lincoln Collection, Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum).
Book Synopsis What Really Happened: The Lincoln Assassination by : Robert J. Hutchinson
Download or read book What Really Happened: The Lincoln Assassination written by Robert J. Hutchinson and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2020-04-07 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Think You Know Everything about the Lincoln Assassination? Think Again. After 150 years, many unsolved mysteries and enduring urban legends still surround the assassination of Abraham Lincoln by the popular stage actor John Wilkes Booth. In a new look at the case, award-winning history author Robert J. Hutchinson (The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Bible) explores what we know, and don’t know, about what really happened at Ford’s Theatre on the night of April 14, 1865. In addition, he argues that the deep-seated political hatreds that roiled Washington, D.C., in the final weeks of the Civil War are particularly relevant to our own polarized age. Among the tantalizing questions Hutchinson explores are: * Did the Confederacy have a hand in the assassination plot? * Who were Booth’s secret accomplices, and why did he change the plan from kidnapping to assassination? * Why was it so easy for Booth to walk into the president’s box to shoot him? Where were the guards? * How did Booth evade the largest manhunt in U.S. history for nearly two weeks despite being unable to walk? * Who gave the order to shoot Booth in the Garrett barn—and what happened to his body? Drawing upon both primary sources and the best recent historical research, What Really Happened: The Lincoln Assassination separates established facts from mere conjectures—and is the one book to own if you want to know “what really happened.”

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln: Flight, Pursuit, Capture, and Punishment of the Conspirators The many accounts of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln that have been written make me hesitate to offer still another; but having lived for ten years under the roof that once sheltered him in Springfield, Ill., and eight years later in the house in which he died, and having met so many persons during the past thirty-six years who either assisted in the escape of the conspirators or took some official part in their capture, trial, and punishment, rare opportunities have been offered me for gathering much true and valuable historical data on this subject.
