Book excerpt: Aspect-oriented programming, component models, and design patterns are modern and actively evolving techniques for improving the modularization of complex software. In particular, these techniques hold great promise for the development of "systems infrastructure" software, e.g., application servers, middleware, virtual machines, compilers, operating systems, and other software that provides general services for higher-level applications. The developers of infrastructure software are faced with increasing demands from application programmers needing higher-level support for application development. Meeting these demands requires careful use of software modularization techniques, since infrastructural concerns are notoriously hard to modularize. Aspects, components, and patterns provide very different means to deal with infrastructure software, but despite their differences, they have much in common. For instance, component models try to free the developer from the need to deal directly with services like security or transactions. These are primary examples of crosscutting concerns, and modularizing such concerns are the main target of aspect-oriented languages. Similarly, design patterns like Visitor and Interceptor facilitate the clean modularization of otherwise tangled concerns. Building on the ACP4IS meetings at AOSD 2002-2009, this workshop aims to provide a highly interactive forum for researchers and developers to discuss the application of and relationships between aspects, components, and patterns within modern infrastructure software. The goal is to put aspects, components, and patterns into a common reference frame and to build connections between the software engineering and systems communities.

Book excerpt: What's this AOP thing anyway, really—when you get right down to it—and can someone please explain what an aspect actually is?Aspect-Oriented Programming with the e Verification Language takes a pragmatic, example based, and fun approach to unraveling the mysteries of AOP. In this book, you'll learn how to:• Use AOP to organize your code in a way that makes it easy to deal with the things you really care about in your verification environments. Forget about organizing by classes, and start organizing by functionality, layers, components, protocols, functional coverage, checking, or anything that you decide is important to you• Easily create flexible code that eases your development burden, and gives your users the power to quickly do what they need to do with your code• Truly create a plug-and-play environment that allows you to add and remove functionality without modifying your code. Examples include how to use AOP to create pluggable debug modules, and a pluggable module that lets you check that your testbench is still working before you begin a regression• Utilize AOP to sidestep those productivity roadblocks that seem to plague all projects at the most inconvenient of times• Discover why "return is evil, and some other "gotchas with the AOP features of eAll of the methodologies, tips, and techniques described in this book have been developed and tested on real projects, with real people, real schedules and all of the associated problems that come with these. Only the ones that worked, and worked well, have made it in, so by following the advice given in this book, you'll gain access to the true power of AOP while neatly avoiding the effort of working it all out yourself.• Use AOP to organize your code in a way that makes it easy to deal with the things you really care about in your verification environments. Book excerpt: This work follows the 2021 curriculum of the Association for Computing Machinery for specialists in Data Sciences, with the aim of producing a manual that collects notions in a simplified form, facilitating a personal training path starting from specialized skills in Computer Science or Mathematics or Statistics. It has a bibliography with links to quality material but freely usable for your own training and contextual practical exercises. First of a series of books, it covers methodological aspects, data acquisition, management and cleaning. It describes the CRISP DM methodology, the working phases, the success criteria, the languages and the environments that can be used, the application libraries. Since this book uses Orange for the application aspects, its installation and widgets are described. Dealing with data acquisition, the book describes data sources, the acceleration techniques, the discretization methods, the security standards, the types and representations of the data, the techniques for managing corpus of texts such as bag-of-words, word-count , TF-IDF, n-grams, lexical analysis, syntactic analysis, semantic analysis, stop word filtering, stemming, techniques for representing and processing images, sampling, filtering, web scraping techniques. Examples are given in Orange. Data quality dimensions are analysed, and then the book considers algorithms for entity identification, truth discovery, rule-based cleaning, missing and repeated value handling, categorical value encoding, outlier cleaning, and errors, inconsistency management, scaling, integration of data from various sources and classification of open sources, application scenarios and the use of databases, datawarehouses, data lakes and mediators, data schema mapping and the role of RDF, OWL and SPARQL, transformations. Examples are given in Orange. The book is accompanied by supporting material and it is possible to download the project samples in Orange and sample data.

Book excerpt: A mainstay for pathology residents, Autopsy Pathology is designed with a uniquely combined manual and atlas format that presents today's most complete coverage of performing, interpreting, and reporting post-mortem examinations. This lasting and useful medical reference book offers a practical, step-by-step approach to discussing not only the basics of the specialty, but the performance of specialized autopsy procedures as well. Material is divided into two sections for ease of use: a manual covering specific autopsy procedures, biosafety, generation of autopsy reports, preparation of death certificates, and other essential subjects; and an atlas, organized by organ system, which captures the appearance of the complete spectrum of autopsy findings. Offers expanded coverage of microscopic anatomy. Includes a chapter on performing special dissection procedures that may not be covered during a typical residency. Examines important techniques, such as autopsy photography and radiology, microscopic examination, supplemental laboratory studies, and other investigative approaches. Addresses the latest legal, social, and ethical issues relating to autopsies, as well as quality improvement and assurance. Presents more than 600 full-color photographs depicting common gross and microscopic autopsy findings for every part of the body. Correlates pathologic findings with their clinical causes to enhance diagnostic accuracy. Improved images in the Atlas section provide greater visual understanding. Additional online features include dissection videos demonstrating autopsy techniques; downloadable, commonly used forms for autopsy reports; and calculators for weights and measures. Expert Consult eBook version included with purchase. This enhanced eBook experience offers access to all of the text, figures, images, videos, forms, calculators, and references from the book on a variety of devices.
