Book Synopsis Heat Transfer at Low Temperatures by : Walter Frost
Download or read book Heat Transfer at Low Temperatures written by Walter Frost and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-22 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purposes of this book are to provide insight and to draw attention to problems peculiar to heat transfer at low temperatures. This does not imply that the theories of classical heat transfer fail at low temperatures, but rather that many of the approximations employed in standard solutions techniques are not valid in this regime. Physical properties, for example, have more pronounced variations at low temperatures and cannot, as is conventionally done, be held constant. Fluids readily become mixtures of two or more phases and their analysis is different from that for a single-phase fluid. These and other problems which occur more frequently at low temperatures than at standard conditions are discussed in this book. Although the title specifies heat transfer, the book also contains a very comprehensive chapter on two-phase fluid flow and a partial chapter on the flow of fluids in the thermodynamically critical state. Emphasis is placed on those flow phenomena that occur at low temperatures. Flow analyses are, of course, a prerequisite to forced-convection heat transfer analyses, and thus these chapters add continuity to the text. The book is primarily written for the design engineer, but does broach many topics which should prove interesting to the researcher. For the student and teacher the book will serve as a useful reference and possibly as a text for a special topics course in heat transfer.

Download or read book Heat Exchangers written by Kuppan Thulukkanam and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-02-29 with total page 703 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heat Exchangers: Classification, Selection, and Thermal Design, Third Edition discusses heat exchangers and their various applications, such as refrigeration, air conditioning, automobiles, gas turbines, process industries, refineries, and thermal power plants. With a focus on thermal design methods, including rating and sizing, the book covers thermohydraulic fundamentals and thermal effectiveness charts for various flow configurations and shell and tube heat exchangers. It provides construction details, geometrical features and correlations, and thermo-hydraulic details for tube-fin, plate fin, air-cooled, shell and tube, microchannel, and plate heat exchangers and thermal design methods like rating and sizing. The book explores additive manufacturing of heat exchangers, printed circuit heat exchangers, and heat transfer augmentation methods. The book also describes recuperators and regenerators of gas turbine cycles, waste heat recovery devices, and phase change phenomena including boiling, condensation and steam generation. The book serves as a useful reference for researchers, graduate students, and engineers in the field of heat exchanger design, including heat exchanger manufacturers.

Download or read book Colton written by Larry Sheffield and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2004-07-08 with total page 840 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Take a train to Southern California, and you'll pass through Colton. Once the home of Gabrielino and Serrano Indians, Colton is now known as the "Hub City," the only place in the United States where the Union Pacific and the Burlington, Northern & Santa Fe railroads cross. Westward-bound rail passengers travel through the horseshoe-shaped valley along the same trails that served Spanish explorers journeying from Mexico to Monterey in the 1770s. The valley's early settlers made use of the rich soil and ready transportation, cultivating fruit trees and shipping their harvest north and east. Legendary figures have also roamed Colton's streets, including the famous Tombstone gunslingers Wyatt Earp and his brother Virgil, who was Colton's first marshal, and their father, Nicholas, who served as a justice of the peace and city recorder. Over the 150 years of the community's history, many have passed through Colton, and all have left their mark on this classically Californian town.

Book Synopsis Combustion Technology: Some Modern Developments by : Howard Palmer
Download or read book Combustion Technology: Some Modern Developments written by Howard Palmer and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combustion Technology: Some Modern Developments reviews modern developments in combustion technology, with emphasis on furnace flames. Topics covered range from equilibria and chemical kinetics in flames to corrosion and deposits in combustion systems, along with combustion aerodynamics and noise. Heat transfer from non-luminous flames in furnaces is also investigated. Comprised of 15 chapters, this book begins with an overview of some aspects of the chemistry of flames, followed by a discussion on the problem of corrosion and deposits. Subsequent chapters focus on aerodynamics and heat transfer in combustors, together with combustion noise and the application of aerodynamic principles to flame stabilization in high-speed flow; radiative heat transfer in combustion chambers; electrical properties of flames; flame-field interactions and their practical applications; generation of electricity by magnetohydrodynamic methods; and practical aspects of magnetohydrodynamic power generation. The book also assesses the influence of stirred reactor theory on design principles for high-performance combustion chambers and concludes with a summary of developments in the design and utilization of oil burners. This monograph should be of interest to engineers and combustion technologists.
