Book Synopsis Bootstrap Methods by : Michael R. Chernick
Download or read book Bootstrap Methods written by Michael R. Chernick and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-09-23 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A practical and accessible introduction to the bootstrap method——newly revised and updated Over the past decade, the application of bootstrap methods to new areas of study has expanded, resulting in theoretical and applied advances across various fields. Bootstrap Methods, Second Edition is a highly approachable guide to the multidisciplinary, real-world uses of bootstrapping and is ideal for readers who have a professional interest in its methods, but are without an advanced background in mathematics. Updated to reflect current techniques and the most up-to-date work on the topic, the Second Edition features: The addition of a second, extended bibliography devoted solely to publications from 1999–2007, which is a valuable collection of references on the latest research in the field A discussion of the new areas of applicability for bootstrap methods, including use in the pharmaceutical industry for estimating individual and population bioequivalence in clinical trials A revised chapter on when and why bootstrap fails and remedies for overcoming these drawbacks Added coverage on regression, censored data applications, P-value adjustment, ratio estimators, and missing data New examples and illustrations as well as extensive historical notes at the end of each chapter With a strong focus on application, detailed explanations of methodology, and complete coverage of modern developments in the field, Bootstrap Methods, Second Edition is an indispensable reference for applied statisticians, engineers, scientists, clinicians, and other practitioners who regularly use statistical methods in research. It is also suitable as a supplementary text for courses in statistics and resampling methods at the upper-undergraduate and graduate levels.

This book was released on 2006-08-08 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Canada, acceptance sampling has been used in legal metrology applications for nearly four decades. One of its principal uses has been in the quality control of utility meters that measure electricity or natural gas supplied to consumers. By law, such meters must be inspected for conformance to specification requirements prior to use and be periodically inspected while huse. With few exceptions, due to the numerous utility companies in the country and their varied practices, the meters exist in the form of isolated lots for inspection purposes. The proportion of nonconforming meters in a lot has traditionally defined lot quality for utility meter sampling inspection purposes. Another principal application of acceptance sampling has been in the quality control of the net contents of packaged products sold in the marketplace. Such products include those sold on the basis of such measures as weight, volume, length, and area. In this particular application, products are also usually inspected on an isolated-lot basis for regulatory purposes. However, lot quality is usually measured on the basis of two criteria for such products: the proportion of nonc- forming packages in the lot and the lot mean quantity. This section reviews Canadian quality control practices in these two areas of application, highlighting some of the deficiencies and issues. Three-class s- pling plans are proposed as a possible solution to some of these deficiencies and issues.

Book Synopsis Process Mapping and Management by : Sue Conger
Download or read book Process Mapping and Management written by Sue Conger and published by Business Expert Press. This book was released on 2011-06-13 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a blueprint of how to develop a discipline for process management that applies to any type of orientation. As the economy moves toward a services orientation, companies are struggling with how to improve their offerings. Process management is a key component of the services that companies provide, and author Sue Conger has written a helpful tool to learn more of this key component now helping companies around the world. This book has three main parts: mapping, improvement, and error-proofing and metrics. In the first part—mapping—the reader will learn how to map a process so that the map is immediately understandable for identifying the roles, work steps, and automation support used in process delivery. The second part improvement—provides a series of techniques for defining, prioritizing, and analyzing problems from several perspectives. The first perspective is called “leaning,” and its purpose is to remove waste from an existing process. The second perspective is “cleaning,” during which the remaining steps following leaning are analyzed for possible improvement. The third perspective is “greening,” which explores opportunities and trade-offs for outsourcing, coproduction, and environmental improvements related to the process. The final part of the book—error-proofing and metrics—presents several techniques for ensuring risk mitigation for the new process and for measuring changes that define their impacts and discusses a method for proposing changes to executives in a “case for change.” And throughout this book, Conger provides a blueprint of how to develop a discipline for process management that applies to any type of orientation.
