Book Synopsis The Use of Artificial Intelligence for Space Applications by : Cosimo Ieracitano
Download or read book The Use of Artificial Intelligence for Space Applications written by Cosimo Ieracitano and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-06-16 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an ideal and practical resource on the potential impact Artificial Intelligence (AI) can have in space sciences and applications. AI for Space Application presents a hands-on approach to browse in the subject and to learning how to do. AI is not yet fully accepted as a pervasive technology in space applications because they are often mission-critical and the cost of space equipment and modules raises skepticism on any practical use and reliability. However, it is evident that its potential impact on many aspects is dramatic. Starting from either actual or experimental realizations, the book accompanies the reader through such fascinating subjects like space exploration, autonomous navigation and landing, rover control and guidance on rough surfaces, image analysis automation for planet or star classification, and for space debris avoidance without human intervention. This kind of approach may facilitate further investigations on the same or similar subjects, as the future of space explorations is going toward adopting AI. The intended audience of the book are researchers from academia and space industries and practitioners in related start-ups.
Book Synopsis Ethic to Artificial Intelligence Space Development? by : Johnny Ch lok

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can future (AI) control communication systems be developed to be applied to automated test any spacecraft flight systems to ensure which are safe to leave earth to fly to space? Is (AI) automated system testing tool more accurate to achieve the testing safe measurement result to reduce the space flight risk than human testing effort? To answer these questions, scientists need to attempt to compare (AI) testing system and human effort to test many times of spacecraft flights in order to confirm whether (AI) testing system will be more accurate than human effort testing to every spacecraft equipment before it will fly to space. Thus, (AI) space auto control system scientists have responsibility to attempt to do many times of experiments to ensure their (AI) auto control space robots can be safe and efficient and effective to be used by the space people in any space environment. Fourthly, in autonomous space exploration problem solution aspect, when a spacecraft encountered a somewhat unique problem as it moves further and further from earth. The increasing distance makes it take from ground-based controllers. As such, a spacecraft that will be any significant distance from earth most have some problems need to be able take collision avoidance actions and to reestablish communications with earth should they are lost. The use of (AI) autonomous technologies started with meeting these basic requirements and performing actions ( such as docking), which required too much. However, (AI) technology will have possible to be implemented because it can make missions better and less expensive. When, (AI) technology is participated to solve any unpredictable challenges when any a spacecraft leaves our earth to fly to space for future mission plans. It is likely the future existing space site networks will expand and some of which may be in remote locations. As such, there is an even greater need for (AI) automated challenge solution technology to facilities the operation of these various space stations within budget.

Book excerpt: The purpose is to describe the applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to the European Space program that are being developed or have been developed. The results of a study sponsored by the Artificial Intelligence Research and Development program of NASA's Office of Advanced Concepts and Technology (OACT) are described. The report is divided into two sections. The first consists of site reports, which are descriptions of the AI applications seen at each place visited. The second section consists of two summaries which synthesize the information in the site reports by organizing this information in two different ways. The first organizes the material in terms of the type of application, e.g., data analysis, planning and scheduling, and procedure management. The second organizes the material in terms of the component technologies of Artificial Intelligence which the applications used, e.g., knowledge based systems, model based reasoning, procedural reasoning, etc. Drummond, Mark (Editor) and Stewart, Helen (Editor) Ames Research Center...

Download or read book Artificial Intelligence in Space Systems written by Andrea Brambilla and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-06 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The characteristics of the future space missions are moving into areas where significant advantages would be gained from the development of an increasing level of autonomy distributed across the space systems. The Multi-Agent approach is an effective way to cope with this perspective: every space system is provided with computing capabilities implementing an intelligent behavior in terms of coordinated decision making. This book explores the benefits of a coordination strategy based on the temporal interdependence decoupling: every space system introduces local constraints in order to make redundant the coordination constraints. Therefore the interdependencies can be removed decomposing the global problem in local independent subproblems that implicitly satisfy the coordination requirements. This coordination strategy has the potential benefit of reducing the communication overhead, which becomes fundamental in space as the probability of communication failure and latency can seriously compromise the operations. This book should be especially useful to professionals in Space Operations or anyone else who is interested in distributed robotics systems.
