Book excerpt: Following the theology of mission developed by John Wesley, thousands of men and women have engaged in domestic and international missions. But why did they go? Why do they continue to go today? In The Use of the Old Testament in a Wesleyan Theologyof Mission, Gordon Snider examines the Wesleyan understanding of mission in the light of the Old Testament. What theology from God's Old Covenant gave Wesleyans their drive to impact nations, and how did it shape their missionary strategies? Drawing upon a range of primary sources, he examines how a number of influential speakers in the Wesleyan tradition, particularly the founders and spokespeople of the nineteenth and the early twentieth century, have used the Old Testament to inform theirtheology of mission. Snider provides an insight into the works of the important theologians Thomas Coke, Jabez Bunting, Adam Clarke, Richard Watson, Daniel Whedon and Edmund Cook. Focusing on the movement of Wesleyan Theology from Great Britain to North America, Snider analyses how this affected Wesleyan ideas of holiness, eschatology and divine healing. Readers of this volume will discover why Wesleyan Christians go into the world and gain a deeper understanding of missions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: End-Times Prophecy and “The Last Days” invites people to explore end-times biblical prophecy and to open Revelation, the last book of the Bible. These sources reveal God’s will for individuals and his whole world. Kendall Brashears distills over three decades of dedicated study and presents it with the skill of a seasoned educator. His hard work has yielded an approachable guide to ancient and sometimes difficult texts, featuring verse-by-verse explanations of key passages. Through his prophetic research and years of teaching, Brashears will explore the following: – Are we living in the last days as described by the Bible? – What end-time events are we seeing in the world today? – Will the Rapture of believers precede the Tribulation, and if so, how will it occur and what will it look like? – Will we know who the Antichrist is before the Rapture and how will we recognize him? – If there is a seven-year Tribulation on earth, what will it be like and who will go through it? The answers to these questions and many more are discussed thoroughly in this study. If you have wondered what God has planned for his world, if you ask yourself whether distressing events signal the coming end of human history, or if you want to grow in your knowledge of the details contained in the Bible’s prophetic and apocalyptic passages, then End-Times Prophecy and “The Last Days” will serve you well as a tool for deepening your understanding. You will emerge from your experience with a breadth of knowledge that provides guidance both for recognizing the changes that are occurring in the world today and for clinging to the assurance of God’s plan for care and comfort in uncertain times.

Book excerpt: Emerging as a spiritual renewal movement in Antebellum America with ties to Methodism and the reform ethos of the era, it grew rapidly and spread internationally during the last three decades of the 19th century. Women including the increasingly well-known Phoebe Palmer were central actors in the Movement and from its origins Blacks were prominent in all aspects of the Movement. Although its most familiar expression is found in the Salvation Army, the movement established a thriving international network of periodicals, camp meetings, rescue missions, and congregations birthing new denominations such as the Church of God (Anderson), the Church of the Nazarene, and the Korea Evangelical Holiness Church while continuing to profoundly shape older Protestant denominations. In the process playing a crucial role emergence of Pentecostalism and even shaping the piety of popular evangelicalism. Historical Dictionary of the Holiness Movement, Third Edition contains a chronology, an introduction, and an extensive bibliography. The dictionary section has more than 500 cross-referenced entries on leaders, personalities, events, facts, movements, and beliefs of the Holiness Movement. This book is an excellent resource for students, researchers, and anyone wanting to know more about the Holiness Movement.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the 1830s, Holiness and Pentecostal movements have had a significant influence on many Christian churches, and they have been a central force in producing what is known today as World Christianity. This book demonstrates the advantages of analyzing them in relation to one another. The Salvation Army, the Church of the Nazarene, the Wesleyan Church, and the Free Methodist Church identify strongly with the Holiness Movement. The Assemblies of God and the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World identify just as strongly with the Pentecostal Movement. Complicating matters, denominations such as the Church of God (Cleveland), the International Holiness Pentecostal Church, and the Church of God in Christ have harmonized Holiness and Pentecostalism. This book, the first in the new series Studies in the Holiness and Pentecostal Movements, examines these complex relationships in a multidisciplinary fashion. Building on previous scholarship, the contributors provide new ways of understanding the relationships, influences, and circulation of ideas among these movements in the United States, the United Kingdom, India, and Southeast and East Asia. In addition to the editors, the contributors are Kimberly Ervin Alexander, Insik Choi, Robert A. Danielson, Chris E. W. Green, Henry H. Knight III, Frank D. Macchia, Luther Oconer, Cheryl J. Sanders, and Daniel Woods.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two Persian wars in 1991 and 2003 have inspired the author to write about two more incoming wars according to Bible prophecy, the latter being the war to end all wars- Armageddon. It concerns the Messiah’s return during a time of trouble and turmoil known as the Tribulation. It also comments about our current situation in the world: economics, technology, unbelief, wars, weather patterns, etc. It’s primary villain is the antichrist, who comes to deceive the nations of the world and attacks God’s people. This antichrist is under the control of Satan himself. But the finality of it all is the issuance of a peaceful one-thousand year millennium by the Messiah Himself. The author wants the reading audience to examine themselves to see if they are ready to receive Him (the Son of God), and live eternally with Him.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book entitled, Garden of Eden Found, is divided into three almost equal parts. Part I of the book is exactly what the title says. It reveals and explains the exact geographical location of the ancient site of the Garden of Eden. This is an absolutely new and a previously undiscovered site. People suppose that we must yet wait on a prophet of God to reveal its location, but this book explains that God through the prophet Moses said everything he could to explain the location of the Garden of Eden in the second chapter of Genesis. It is just that the names of the lands and rivers have changed. The original thing in this work, however, is that the ancient site of the Garden of Eden was located upon the North American continent. Note that according to Genesis 1:10 each land was called earth. Thus, it could have been on any continent. There has never been one fact of evidence to show that the Garden of Eden was located in the Middle East anyway. This has only been a supposition of the so-called learned; even those who write the text books; and most of whom do not believe in God or in revelation. The author has simply put together the Genesis account of Eden with the latter-day revelations concerning Adam-ondi-Ahman in America. Part II of this book reveals the ultimate meaning of the six days and the six nights and Sabbath of the creation account in Genesis chapter one. No one has ever discovered nor understood their ultimate meaning before this work. The author submits that this concept is the greatest concept that can be conceived by the mind of man concerning ultimate reality. This concept ties together the law of eternal progression, the order of the universes of the cosmos, and the days and nights of creation as one and the same thing. So the author begins Part II of his book with the following paragraph. If I were a scientist and was speaking before my other colleagues, then, I would name my address, "The Number and Order of the Universes of the Cosmos." If I was a philosopher and was presenting this topic before my fellow philosophers, I would entitle my presentation, "The Law of Eternal Progression to Ultimate Continuum." But if I happened to be a theologian, and was preaching a sermon to my parishioners, I would call my message, "The Meaning of the Six Days and Six Nights and a Sabbath of Creation." This is because these three subjects concern the same ultimate reality. The first is scientific, the second is philosophical, and the third is religious. Often the terms for universe and the cosmos are used interchangeably. Actually, this is the concept of mankind at the present time. Most people, including scientists, the philosophers, and the theologians, consider that the universe is the cosmos and that the cosmos is the universe. However, this is simply not the true case of the matter, for the cosmos is the sum total of the series of the twelve universes of the cosmos. However, would anyone have ever entertained the idea that the answer is to be found in the first chapter of the Book of Genesis in the Bible? Who would have thought that God had hidden it in the simple account of the six days and the six nights and Sabbath of creation? I will attempt to show, in plainness and simplicity, that this is the true interpretation. SPAN style="mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt"Part III of this book explains the historic meaning of the symbolism in the Book of Revelation. The new truth to understand is that they represent only natural things and historical events of the past two-thousand years of Christian history. There are three general principles that we must accept in order to understand the symbolism of t
