Book Synopsis Nutrient Management Strategy on Groundnut by : Sunil Kumar Gunri
Download or read book Nutrient Management Strategy on Groundnut written by Sunil Kumar Gunri and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Groundnut (Peanut), an important energy rich unpredictable legume, since its response to nutrient application is always not optimistic. This crop is cultivated all over the World, mainly for vegetable oil production. It has been found that low yields in groundnut is mainly due to inadequate and imbalanced use of nutrients.High prices of chemical fertilizers as well as environmental hazards along with other detrimental effects of continuous application of inorganic fertilizers at higher doses, led to combination of organic and inorganic nutrient sources which helps to maintain high productivity both in crop and soil.Timing of fertilizers application is also of equal importance to enhance the efficiency of applied fertilizers and organic manures. In this research, efforts have been made to find out judicious combinations of organic and inorganic fertilizers and best management practices for sustainable production of short duration high yielding groundnut, which can be economically feasible too. This book can be quite useful for students, teachers, researchers, farmers and for other people related with groundnut production system
Book Synopsis Yield Gap and Constraints Analysis in Groundnut Production by : Pramod Kumar Verma
Download or read book Yield Gap and Constraints Analysis in Groundnut Production written by Pramod Kumar Verma and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-06 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With 19 per cent of world's area and 10 % of world's production India is one of the oilseed producing countries in the world. In the domestic agricultural sectors, oilseeds occupy a distinct position after cereals sharing 14 % of the country's gross cropped area and accounting for nearly 6 % of the gross national product and 10 % of the value of all agricultural products. India accounts for 9.6 % of the world's total output of oilseeds. With more than 25 million hectares of land under oilseeds the world's largest area under oilseeds. However, at present the average yield of oilseed is only 900 kg as against world average of 1275 kg and a yield of 2500kg/ha in USA. Gujarat accounts for one third of the country's groundnut production. About 75 per cent of this production is confined to Saurashtra region of the state characterized by rainfed farming with high risk and low yield. The results of the present study will provide the information about the yield gap in groundnut production as well as constraints faced by the respondents. In addition, this study will also focus on identifying the independent variables responsible for high groundnut production and reasons for low yield.

Book Synopsis Accelerated Plant Breeding, Volume 4 by : Satbir Singh Gosal
Download or read book Accelerated Plant Breeding, Volume 4 written by Satbir Singh Gosal and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-03 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant improvement has shifted its focus from yield, quality and disease resistance to factors that will enhance commercial export, such as early maturity, shelf life and better processing quality. Conventional plant breeding methods aiming at the improvement of a self-pollinating crop usually take 10-12 years to develop and release of the new variety. During the past 10 years, significant advances have been made and accelerated methods have been developed for precision breeding and early release of crop varieties. This book focuses on the accelerated breeding technologies that have been adopted for major oil crops. It summarizes concepts dealing with germplasm enhancement and development of improved varieties based on innovative methodologies that include doubled haploidy, marker assisted selection, marker assisted background selection, genetic mapping, genomic selection, high-throughput genotyping, high-throughput phenotyping, mutation breeding, reverse breeding, transgenic breeding, shuttle breeding, speed breeding, low cost high-throughput field phenotyping, etc. This edited volume is therefore an excellent reference on accelerated development of improved crop varieties.

Book Synopsis Achieving sustainable production of poultry meat Volume 2 by : Todd Applegate
Download or read book Achieving sustainable production of poultry meat Volume 2 written by Todd Applegate and published by Burleigh Dodds Science Publishing. This book was released on 2017-07-31 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To meet growing demand, the FAO has estimated that world poultry production needs to grow by 2-3% per year to 2030. Much of the increase in output already achieved has been as a result of improvements in commercial breeds combined with rearing in more intensive production systems. However, more intensive systems have increased the risk of transmission of animal diseases and zoonoses. Consumer expectations of sensory and nutritional quality have never been higher. At the same time consumers are more concerned about the environmental impact of poultry production as well as animal welfare. Drawing on an international range of expertise, this book reviews research on poultry breeding and nutrition. The first part of the book reviews how advances in genetics have impacted developments in breeding. Part 2 discusses ways of optimising poultry nutrition to ensure quality and sustainability in poultry meat production. Chapters review the use of feedstuffs and ingredients such as amino acids, enzymes and probiotics as well as feed formulation and safety. Achieving sustainable production of poultry meat Volume 2: Breeding and nutrition will be a standard reference for poultry and food scientists in universities, government and other research centres and companies involved in poultry production. It is accompanied by two further volumes which review safety, quality and sustainability as well as poultry health and welfare.
