This book was released on 2022-11-29 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book takes a closer look at the relation between current issues and trends in higher education and scientific research in the Arab World and in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states of Qatar and United Arab Emirates (UAE). This thoroughly researched text traces the development of higher education in the GCC area as it continues to be positioned in an intersection of international and local factors. The text further articulates the pivotal political and cultural influences that act as real and perceived barriers towards the advancement of key fields. The chapters analyze the current policy trends, structures, and coping alternatives in addressing higher education challenges, whilst also providing comparative first-hand texts with the other Arab states in the region. By drawing focus on the GCC area, the text identifies the crucial factors that hamper learning and research performance. The book serves as an invaluable discussion on the implications for policy makers and HEIs in relation to the eponymous regions and other Arab states in the GCC area. Enhancing understanding of the scope, scale, and complexity of higher education and scientific research in the GCC area, the book will be of interest to academics, researchers, and post-graduate students in the fields of educational policy, comparative and international education and higher education.

Book excerpt: SOME PLACES YOU NEVER FORGET... For Amanda Stockenberg, that place was Smugglers' Inn. The seaside inn had been a refuge for Amanda when she was sixteen, a place to find solace, to find herself...and to find love. She can't think of the inn now without remembering Dane Cutter. The then nineteen-year-old illegitimate son of the cook had taught her about love. She'd been ready to give up everything to be with him. But at the end of the summer he, it seemed, was not. Now, ten years later, Amanda once again finds herself staying at Smugglers' Inn, this time for a corporate retreat. The event is her last chance to prove herself to her bosses, so she doesn't need any complications...like finding Dane Cutter still working at the inn. And still as dangerous to her equilibrium as ever. Because suddenly, Amanda isn't sure what she wants—the window office or the window room of a seaside inn. She has one week. Seven days to choose between achieving all her dreams...or reuniting with the man she never stopped loving.

Book Synopsis Vegetation of the Arabian Peninsula by : S.A. Ghazanfar
Download or read book Vegetation of the Arabian Peninsula written by S.A. Ghazanfar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inspiration for this book came from our ten years of journeys and wanderings through the varied landscapes of Arabia, and in particular through those of its hospitable southeastern corner, Oman. We owe a particular debt to Sultan Qaboos University, which during this time has provided us with both a stimulating working environment and a home. Transliteration of Arabic place and other names into English script is a task fraught with difficulties. We have followed 'accepted' spellings wherever these were not contrary to our common sense, and in other cases we have rendered names into Roman English script using phonetic spellings. Our main task in this respect was to ensure conformity between the fIfteen contributing authors. Diacritical signs have mostly been avoided, since their use is neither widely followed nor readily understood. Arabic words which have been commonly taken into the English language, such as 'sabkha' for a salt flat and 'wadi' for a valley with a seasonal watercourse, are not italicised in usage. However, other Arabic terms which are occasionally used in English but not as widely known, such as harrah for a basaltic lava fIeld and hima for a traditional grazing reserve, are italicised throughout the text.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on a nuclear physics course the author has taught to graduate students at the Physics Department, College of Science, University of Baghdad, Iraq, for the period 19782007. Also, it is based on the authors experiences in the field of nuclear physics, teaching, researching, and administration of certain scientific institutions and organizations. It consists of nine chapters and an appendix of some solved problems to illustrate the subject to the students. As a textbook in nuclear physics, it actually deals with the physics of the nucleus of the atom, from the time of discovering the nucleus by the alpha particle (a) scattering by gold film experiment by Rutherford (1911). Therefore, it describes and demonstrates the following important subjects: Nuclear radius and shapes, properties The nuclear force, properties, and features Proposed nuclear models Nuclear potential, different suggested types Nuclear constituents, the protons (p) and the neutrons (N) The nucleon as identity to p and N according to the charge and energy state The angular momentum of the nucleus and its quadruple moment The nuclear interactions The rotation properties of the nucleus The electromagnetic properties of the nucleus Transitions, properties, and Fermi golden rules Beta decay and the nonconservation of parity and the CPT conservation, the helicity Nuclear particles physics Solved problems
Book Synopsis Knowledge Production in the Arab World by : Sari Hanafi
Download or read book Knowledge Production in the Arab World written by Sari Hanafi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over recent decades we have witnessed the globalization of research. However, this has yet to translate into a worldwide scientific network, across which competencies and resources can flow freely. Arab countries have strived to join this globalized world and become a ‘knowledge economy,’ yet little time has been invested in the region’s fragmented scientific institutions; institutions that should provide opportunities for individuals to step out on the global stage. Knowledge Production in the Arab World investigates research practices in the Arab world, using multiple case studies from the region with particular focus on Lebanon and Jordan. It depicts the Janus-like face of Arab research, poised between the negative and the positive and faced with two potentially opposing strands; local relevance alongside its internationalization. The book critically assesses the role and dynamics of research and poses questions that are crucial to further our understanding of the very particular case of knowledge production in the Arab region. The book explores research’s relevance and whom it serves, as well as the methodological flaws behind academic rankings and the meaning and application of key concepts such as knowledge society/economy. Providing a detailed and comprehensive examination of knowledge production in the Arab world, this book is of interest to students, scholars and policy makers working on the issues of research practices and status of science in contemporary developing countries.
