Download or read book A Companion to Italian Constitutional History (1804-1938) written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-06-12 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'This is the first account in English of the making of Italian nationhood from the perspective of constitutional history. It is also the first to consider the role that the House of Savoy played in this process. Bringing together influential experts in the field, the collection covers the evolution of the Italian constitution from Russian diplomacy’s little-known planning of the Risorgimento to the monarchy’s demise after its clashes with fascism. Combining systematic coverage with original research, the volume includes such varied themes as the king’s role in the Italian wars of independence, the Italian peninsula’s forgotten charters of 1848, and the story of the ephemeral building that housed the first Italian parliament. Contributors are: Carolina Armenteros, Andrea Ungari, Paolo Colombo, Frans Willem Lantink, Christian Satto, Giulio Stolfi, Valentina Villa, Tommaso Zerbi, and Romano Ferrari Zumbini.

Book Synopsis Mathematics, Art, Technology and Cinema by : MIRELLA MANARESI
Download or read book Mathematics, Art, Technology and Cinema written by MIRELLA MANARESI and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-07-21 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about mathematics. But also about art, technology and images. And above all, about cinema, which in the past years, together with theater, has discovered mathematics and mathematicians. It was conceived as a contribution to the World Year on Mathematics. The authors argue that the discussion about the differences between the so called two cultures of science and humanism is a thing of the past. They hold that both cultures are truly linked through ideas and creativity, not only through technology. In doing so, they succeed in reaching out to non-mathematicians, and those who are not particularly fond of mathematics. An insightful book for mathematicians, film lovers, those who feel passionate about images, and those with a questioning mind.

Book Synopsis Storia, identità e canoni letterari by : Ioana Both
Download or read book Storia, identità e canoni letterari written by Ioana Both and published by Firenze University Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume collects the interventions of the post-doctoral fellows and PhD students of the University of Cluj Napoca, the University of Bucharest and the University of Florence (Mediterranean Cultures; Doctoral School of Comparative Languages, Literatures and Cultures, specialisation in Language, Literature, Philology: Intercultural Perspectives) presented in occasion of the seminar Storia, identità e canoni letterari (“History, identity and literary canons”, Florence, 22-23 November 2011). The contributions are centred on the idea of canon, as a cultural construct founding modern national identities. Another trace is the literary and cultural hybridisations between different geographies. For the Romanian context, the contributions pay particular attention to the movements of the avant-garde of the early 1900s. Some contributions account for the most problematic aspects of the contemporary world using interdisciplinary approaches.
Book Synopsis 20th Century Physics by : Edoardo Amaldi
Download or read book 20th Century Physics written by Edoardo Amaldi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this important volume, major events and personalities of 20th century physics are portrayed through recollections and historiographical works of one of the most prominent figures of European science. A former student of Enrico Fermi, and a leading personality of physical research and science policy in postwar Italy, Edoardo Amaldi devoted part of his career to documenting, both as witness and as historian, some significant moments of 20th century science. The focus of the book is on the European scene, ranging from nuclear research in Rome in the 1930s to particle physics at CERN, and includes biographies of physicists such as Ettore Majorana, Bruno Touschek and Fritz Houtermans.Edoardo Amaldi (Carpaneto, 1908 - Roma, 1989) was one of the leading figures in twentieth century Italian science. He was conferred his degree in physics at Rome University in 1929 and played an active role (as a member of the team of young physicists known as ?the boys of via Panisperna?) in the fundamental research on artificial induced radioactivity and the properties of neutrons, which won the group's leader Enrico Fermi the Nobel Prize for physics in 1938. Following Fermi's departure for the United States in 1938 and the disruption of the original group, Amaldi took upon himself the task of reorganising the research in physics in the difficult situation of post-war Italy. His own research went from nuclear physics to cosmic ray physics, elementary particles and, in later years, gravitational waves. Active research was for him always coupled to a direct involvement as a statesman of science and an organiser: he was the leading figure in the establishment of INFN (National Institute for Nuclear Physics) and has played a major role, as spokesman of the Italian scientific community, in the creation of CERN, the large European laboratory for high energy physics. He also actively supported the formation of a similar trans-national joint venture in space science, which gave birth to the European Space Agency. In these and several other scientific organisations, he was often entrusted with directive responsibilities. In his later years, he developed a keen interest in the history of his discipline. This gave rise to a rich production of historiographic material, of which a significant sample is collected in this volume.

Book Synopsis The Curriculum of the Body and the School as Clinic by : Kellie Burns
Download or read book The Curriculum of the Body and the School as Clinic written by Kellie Burns and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-12-05 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection brings together cutting-edge research on the history of embodiment, health and schooling in an international context. The book distinguishes a set of educational technologies, schooling practices and school-based public health programmes that organise and influence the bodies of children and young people, defining the curriculum of the body. Taking a historical approach, with a focus on the period in which mass schooling became an international phenomenon, the book is organised according to four major themes. The first positions the school as a modern clinical space, followed by the second that explores programmes and curricula which influence the discipline of and care for the body. The third section examines the role of the built environment on the organisation and experience of children’s bodies, and the final section outlines the pedagogies, rules and routines that determine how the body is treated and experienced in school. International and multidisciplinary in scope, this unique collection is of interest to postgraduate students and researchers in education and public health, as well as history, policy studies and sociology.
