Download or read book Six Degrees of Social Influence written by Douglas T. Kenrick and published by OUP USA. This book was released on 2012-02-10 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the course of the last four decades, Robert Cialdini's work has helped spark an intellectual revolution in which social psychological ideas have become increasingly influential. The concepts presented in his book, Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion, have spread well beyond the geographic boundaries of North America and beyond the field of academic social psychology into the areas of business, health, and politics. In this book, leading authors, who represent many different countries and disciplines, explore new developments and the widespread impact of Cialdini's work in research areas ranging from persuasion strategy and social engineering to help-seeking and decision-making. Among the many topics covered, the authors discuss how people underestimate the influence of others, how a former computer hacker used social engineering to gain access to highly confidential computer codes, and how biology and evolution figure into the principles of influence. The authors break new ground in the study of influence.

Book Synopsis Behavioral Science & Policy: Volume 1, Issue 1 by : Craig Fox
Download or read book Behavioral Science & Policy: Volume 1, Issue 1 written by Craig Fox and published by Brookings Institution Press. This book was released on 2015-06-23 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The success of nearly all public- and private- sector policies hinges on the behavior of individuals, groups, and organizations. Today, such behaviors are better understood than ever, thanks to a growing body of practical behavioral science research. However, policymakers often are unaware of behavioral science findings that may help them craft and execute more effective and efficient policies. The pages of this new journal will become a meeting ground: a place where scientists and non-scientists can encounter clearly described behavioral research that can be put into action. By design, the scope of BSP is broad, with topics spanning health care, financial decisionmaking, energy and the environment, education and culture, justice and ethics, and work place practices. Contributions will be made by researchers with expertise in psychology, sociology, law, behavioral economics, organization science, decision science, and marketing. The first issue includes articles that challenge assumptions that many people have about behavioral policy interventions. This includes the assumption that intuitions are a valid indication of policy effectiveness, the assumption that large effects require large interventions, the assumption that pre-selecting defaults is more coercive than forcing citizens to make a choice, and the assumption that the effectiveness of behavioral “nudges” requires that people not be informed about them. The journal is a key offering of the Behavioral Science & Policy Association in partnership with the Brookings Institution. The mission of BSPA is to foster dialog between social scientists, policymakers, and other practitioners in order to promote the application of rigorous empirical behavioral science in ways that serve the public interest. BSPA does not advance a particular agenda or political perspective. The first issue’s contents follow.

Book Synopsis Forced Sexual Intercourse in Intimate Relationships by : Ida M. Johnson
Download or read book Forced Sexual Intercourse in Intimate Relationships written by Ida M. Johnson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-18 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published in 1997. Literature is reviewed relating to those behaviours which have traditionally been referenced as date rape, acquaintance rape, or rape by a friend or someone known to the victim. Forced sexual intercourse in intimate relationships is placed in both an historical context and a conceptual context. Limited published and unpublished data from the authors research are included in appropriate chapters. The theory chapter ends with the presentation of a rudimentary model for examining forced sexual intercourse in intimate relationships developed by the authors. The topics of domestic violence, courtship violence and forced sexual intercourse are highly controversial and tend to be dominated by those who are promoting specific political agendas. Much of the work in this field has been written from the 'feminist' perspective with recent works appearing which oppose the feminist perspective. This work is neither 'feminist' nor anti-feminist in its approach. It is analytical and, as much as possible in a politized environment, analytical and neutral.
